FWIW: Since iLock was mentioned I checked how many activations my other Softube plug-ins have: 3. ? Most of my other iLocked plug-ins have either 2 or 1 (total).

I have done this, too, but on all monitors--ever since they got rid of the ability to have multiple bars simply because people had no idea how to dock them on the edges properly. My reasoning is the same--I have plenty of extra space on the sides. I heard that that in Windows 11, we cannot have it on the side.

Thanks for the explanation. What threw me off was (A) that Scaler can be used (1) as an instrument plug-in, (2) as an MFX plug-in, and (3) as an audio plug-in combined with (B) my unfamiliarity with Logic Pro. I know a whole bunch of methods to insert plug-ins into Cakewalk in various places and how to route paths in Cakewalk. But once the narrator started zipping through the various insertion methods at lightning speed I was distracted from the explanation because I was trying to track the cursor to see what he was doing and thinking of how I would do that in Cakewalk. For me, I anticipate the main usefulness of Scaler would not be as an instrument or as a compositional tool, but as a documentation tool and if possible as a real-time performance tool. However, my main point earlier was to comment on the topic raised, that Groove3 videos could better serve the needs of non-Logic users. So, as time permits, I will seek more detailed thoughts about what interests me with Scaler in other threads. I will work in some time to take your excellent suggestion--to get the 30-day trial.

I don't have Scaler, but having heard references to it in the forum, thought I'd check out the tutorial to learn more about it. Because of the complexities of Scaler (esp. the fact that it is a midi, an audio, and an instrument plug-in all in one with a lot of levels for each of those modes), I could not keep track of the pace with all the levels without doing some hands-on stuff--pausing, trying it out, exploring, restarting, etc. Even if I had Scaler, because (1) the insertion method is different than in Cakewalk and (2) the mode access / switching methods are different in Cakewalk, I would not have been able to follow along with the step-by-step process. I have not had this kind of issue with other plug-in tutorials either on YouTube or Groove 3. Given the complexities of Scaler, I find the statement about consulting your DAW manual for other DAWs to be less than satisfactory. With my knowledge of SONAR / Cakewalk, I have been able to easily follow other tutorials that used different DAWs. If you make a suggestion to Groove3 to add an additional tutorial in the Scaler 2 series that addresses setting and mode switching it up in Cakewalk, I'd be happy to support that with an e-mail.

To me it communicates mixed feelings--a sense of deep-felt grief over the unfortunate transition mixed with the clear presence of very happy memories. Thanks for sharing.

It definitely sounds like a game-like theme heavily influenced by a jazzy arrangement. Nice that you and your son were able to collaborate on that project. That's a special moment.

Yeah, the Track Control [Widget] Dropdown Menu / Manager is a really handy / powerful workflow tool. Someone should do a short, concise, accurate 1-2 min. tutorial on it. Some people don't know about it and some people don't use it enough to remember to check it. http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Arranging.20.html IIRC we can even save custom track control configurations in custom / customized Workspaces. Yup; just confirmed this by swapping some custom Workspaces. For example, the track controls shown for my "LISTEN + Transport" Workspace are different than for my my "Staff Entry" Workspace.

My thought (which I've used many times before) is to do a Google search, see what a whole bunch of others say, and then combine them to make what they say my own. I just searched "midi 5 pin din wiring" and found a number of hits that look worthwhile.

Apologies if someone else pointed this out already.

New PC . . . Need my customization back
user905133 replied to Russell's topic in Production Techniques
If you have a search tool (such as "Everything" from Void Tools), look for *.lns files (that's lower case LNS, not INS). Try Cakewalk Core\Lenses\User within AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk for your user account. For example, my custom lenses are at C:\Users\ {myAccountName} \ AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\Lenses\User -

How to assign midi channels to Synthmaster Player pre-sets

Having SynthMaster 3 and SynthMaster One with 16 channels (midi and audio) would be great!!! ? -
How to assign midi channels to Synthmaster Player pre-sets
user905133 replied to Ray Cheser's topic in Instruments & Effects
I agree, but I would make one significant distinction: Unfortunately, many soft synths are not multi-channel/multi-timbral instruments like almost all of my hardware synths and samplers are. With Synthmaster 2.9 we can change the channel through Settings. So far as I can see, Multi mode does not allow for different MIDI channels to have different presets. ? Aside: If you have Voltage Modular Core, it is fairly easy to design a basic preset that contains 16 channelized instances of SynthMaster (among other software synths) hosted in Voltage Modular. I am guessing there are other tools that do this, too. One advantage of this approach for me is that once I have the voltagepreset set up, I can insert a single instance of VM into Cakewalk and choose that channelized preset in VM. Saves having to insert up to 16 instances of any the synth. There are other advantages as well as some disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages is that VM only has 4 pairs of stereo outputs. -
How can I save changes to Control Bar?
user905133 replied to kentgunderson's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The middle screen grab shows you are using the Basic Workspace. Assuming the other two are also using the Basic Workspace, I'd say that's the cause of the changes. You could change the Workspace to "none" or to a different Workspace. Or, you could make the changes you want and then resave the Workspace with a non-factory name, MyWorkspace, FullControlBar, 2023-01-29, etc. Have you created custom Workspaces on another PC? If so, you could locate them, copy them to a thumb drive, and put them on the new PC. There may be other solutions, too. I am biased towards using custom Workspaces. -
I use two monitors on my PCs. Some (not all) of my personal Workspaces are set up specifically for two monitors. Some include the Track View on one monitor and the Console / MultiDock on a second monitor. There is a thread where someone wanted the main Cakewalk window to be contiguous across two monitors. My two-monitor Workspaces use floating windows. I'm guessing that with a small laptop and a larger second monitor, you do not want the displays to be contiguous. Note: the thread (one of several) also addresses using a second monitor. However, I have seen that sometimes having different resolution/scaling settings on two displays can cause issues. On my PCs, I have resolved these by adjusting settings.

First of all, glad you got the problem solved. Second, I am glad you mentioned "Transition by CodeFN42 and RPE2 from HY-Plugins." I was scratching my head because I had no idea what a MIDI synth was. I am familiar with hardware controllers which I wondered if that's what you meant, and I am familiar with software synths, but when you said they don't produce sound, I decided that's not what you mean. Fortunately, the websites for both of those call them sequencers. It seems to me if the icon on the instrument for one sequencer opens up the plug-in window for a plug-in, that might mean there is a routing issue or there is a bug that probably ought to be looked into, or both. Or, it could be a one-time only fluke. Recently I had a similar issue where I either deleted tracks that had a certain synth on it or replaced the synth, but the synth was still listed in the synth rack and affected other things in the track. I deleted it manually. Not sure if when deleting tracks or replacing synths the synth is supposed to be removed from the synth rack automatically. Anyhow, glad you got your issue fixed. Update: Thanks for mentioning Transition. I had downloaded it in October, unpacked it, tried it briefly, and set aside reading the manual sometime later. So, I played around some more today and will try to find a use for it. Update # 2: Another thanks for posing the problem. Since I like to explore new ideas for incorporating midi into my workflow, I created a project that used two midi sequencer plug-ins (Transition and Hypercyclic) each sending midi data to a different soft synth (Ekla-X and Odin II. Each time I clicked on the icon in each track, the correct UI opened. I had fun the the sequencer plug-ins.
