  1. Not at all what I expected. I must admit I only made it to the end of what maybe is the first section? The 3:10 mark ish. I will come back to it... ?'s t
  2. You got the "tail" on this one. Well done my brother! Thank you for that. t
  3. Good Stuff! A BIG ?'s to all involved! t this is a very busy mix, I assume that @Bapu handled that? did I mention this is hot?
  4. No doubt the "squeaks" are much improved. I went back to the first mix to be sure it was not at the expense of the "presence" on the guitar track; well done! A suggestion, if I might. I've been using D'Addario Flat Tops on my acoustics for some time now. They lack that new string "brightness"; meaning they sound a bit "played in". But, boy do they reduce the "squeak"! I did buy a few extra "G" strings though. I go them at least two to one between string changes. t One more suggestion, edit the title to reflect a new mix is up. When a thread is "starred", I generally don't re-visit it...
  5. So mix 2 is much more WHOISP. If I was producing I think that's the direction I'd push for. your song, your production a ?'s here either way, but I'm a fan so... t
  6. I have to admit I'm not an Elvis Costello fan, as in I own no vinyl, cassettes or CDs. So I had to look it up on YT. You nailed it! t the only thing you lacked was that all-nighter grit in the vocal ?
  7. Not familiar with Mr Blue Sky so I cannot comment as to infringement. I know there are issues over at YT. Beato complains about it pretty often. And he's in effect promoting the artists that he highlights. I'll stay tuned... t
  8. ditto! the original recording holds up just fine! t Tascam 688 midi studio was my introduction to home recording. stripe one track with SMPTE and Cakewalk 3.0 was off to the races. 20 inputs, 24 if you count the two stereo effects returns. I'll still miss her...
  9. Beautiful soundstage on this one. Longer, or not; its a good one! t

is it just me, or is the link gone? As always well written and produced, and generally I find nothing to say but "well done, I enjoyed it" ABull. But, there are some pitch issues in the vocals in this one. t

    mind mine

I'm not sure I'd call this "weird, really weird" or "yuckie" Jack. Is it just me, or is the kick only in the left can? I'd center the kick up and you could add some 1/16 (1/32?) notes to it, it fits the genre. I'd push the vocal up a bit as well. t bang your head, metal health will drive you mad
  12. Needs a little FADE there at the end, let the ambiance ring out. ?'s t
  13. What I'm seeing in appdata is individual folders for each thumbnail.png and standin.png. In the "resources" folder the graphics are thumbnail.bmp t
  14. Don't know if this was a purchase based on a reference from the Deals Forum, but I do love when members "showcase" specific software; so thanks for that! ?'s t
  15. A little? So Peter, here's the problem with your vocals. A) When you've done covers, in general, you're holding yourself to an impossible standard. B) You bury your vocals in your original tunes, where they work just fine! C) (and I know I'm repeating my self here) Push the vocal fader UP! This is a good tune, but I'll hold the ? and "like" for the final, final mix. t
  16. I'd take a look at Mike's tutorial on side chaining the kick and bass. Still might need to adjust the levels a bit. Also a little EQ boost on the kick wherever the "beater" is living, I find it gives the kick a bit more definition. I get the allergy issues; me too, same thing! (actually I keep a Vicks inhaler in the studio, not an endorsement, not sure it actually helps) But the vocal really is the "elephant in the room". Someone needs to "step up" here and take a run at it.... t
  17. As always Freddy the story is terrific! big ?'s here. t
  18. Philip this is a lovely piece, but I have a few concerns. 1) there are some nasty high pitched squeaks at 1:38 2:08 & 2:13 on the acoustic (maybe more). Maybe you could de-es them, probably automate it some so it doesn't affect the entire track? 2) The finger snaps (I guess that's what they are) just don't seem on the same soundstage to me. On my DT990's they just kind of "hang" out there; again to me... I do think this last mix is the better mix. t
  19. I grabbed EZb Modern Pop, well all three actually. Don't you just love the midi six pacs? I built this quick 1 minute "cue" (is that the right term?). It demos the three midi pacs, IKM FAME and LURSSEN CONSOLE, SofTube Silver Jubilee and Celestion Speaker Shaper. Something perhaps we do too little on the Deals Forum; demonstrate what the "deals" are capable of... t
  20. Drummers, not to mention guitarists forced to play bass; geez... Its just easier (did I just coin a phrase? ?) Always enjoy a good "blast from the past". ?'s t
  21. @Larry T. yes that's a "swell" from the Superior 3 library, as is the many thanks for the listen and comments. @bjornpdx Taxi.com has listings for "cues" all the time, film and TV placements. Again, its something I know nothing about... thanks for the kind words. @David Sprouse Yep, and thank you for taking the time. @Wookiee I am afraid I lack the focus and attention span to challenge the great furry ones commitment to such pursuits. But thank you for your support! @jack c. Almost the forum consensus; I will address that below. Thank you jack @Douglas Kirby Thank you Doug Comments re EZbass: Up to now I pretty much didn't "get" EZb (and still have a lot to learn). Bear in mind that Toon's Modern Pop is Keys, Bass and Drums midi that compliment one another. So by using the same "Song" midi this backing track came together pretty quickly. Its actually based on an Intro from one song, and verse from another; both repeated twice. Then "massaged"... Finding grooves in EZdrummer or Superior 3 is pretty straight forward. Finding "snippets" in EZkeyes is tedious, but generally worth the effort. Up to now getting something useful out of EZbass has just been tiresome. As to length: I got exactly what I wanted here, some quick inspiration that "pushed" my rusty chops; priceless! Also, I was able to "spotlight" some of the gear GAS convinced me I "needed"; something sadly lacking on the Deals Forum. I feel more like the "arranger" in this, as opposed to the "composer". Like a "hired gun" so to speak? The top line melody is mine, the Toon stuff is "work for hire"; so technically I own the copyright. And that opens a whole other conversation... Should Sheldon Leonard receive writing credit for the riff in Last Train to Clarksville? (please lets not go down that rabbit hole) Again, thanks to one and all for taking the time, it is much appreciated... t
  22. IS THIS IT? Been in a bit of a creative funk for a bit. I threw the backing track together with the aid of ToonTrack's Modern Pop bass, keys, and drum midi. There are some titling inconsistencies, but its not hard to figure out. I guess I'd classify it as a "cue", or "bumper" maybe? (something I know nothing about) It did have the intended result; I'm starting to "bond" with EZbass, getting a little more fluent with EZkeyes, learning to edit inside of SD3, and it pushed me to write a quick solo (that wasn't a 12 bar blues) and tighten up my chops. Is it "perfect"? Nope! At some point I'll go back and get the guitar part "right" and "massage" the midi a bit more. For now I'm on to the next "cue". We need a bit more interaction between the Songs Forum and the Deals Forum. A lot of "bought it, installed it"; but very little "this is what I did with it". So here's the tech info: EZkeyes Modern Pop EZbass Modern Pop SD3 Modern Pop Grooves SofTube Marshall Silver Jubilee: '67 Classic (not sure I "love" this) SofTube Celestion Speaker Shaper: 2 4 x 10 cabs with Celestion Blue and G12 Heritage, both with Alnico magnets. I think I've "bonded" with this one. IKM's FAME Studio emulation; 3 instances of Studio A; Guitar (1), Keys (2) Drums and Bass (3). Warren Huart has a pretty good tutorial on FAME here. IKM's Lurssen Console (Pop Rock-more glue) on the Master Buss followed by fabfilter Pro-L2 set at +1.4, ceiling at 0.5dB Scores 11.7 on LUFS scale in iZotope Insight The title? one of the midi variations I used was titled This Is It. As always, would love your crits and comments; don't be afraid to "lean" on me a little; I have broad shoulders... t
