  1. Exactly! Me too! Glyn Johns and Eddie Kramer; what's not to like? Oh, Tom Dowd should get a wink and a nod as well, but his early stereo mixes (Disraeli Gears comes to mind), are just "put this left, and that right". Not at all a "true" stereo field IMnotsoHO. But maybe that was due to Felix Pappalardi's production.
  2. Signed up, but I gotta say I watched the Scheps masterclass and it was mostly a Waves mega-ad. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Scheps Omni Channel (still on sale btw), and at the end of the class he said "best advice is to get to know the plugs you have". Not verbatim, but you get my meaning. My guess? Another infomercial... to wit you said "well duh!" yeah I know But I'll still tune in t
  3. As always excellent stuff. (Shame on ya if you should drop a "stinker"; I kid, I kid.) The low res really isn't apparent on the Bose cans here. So would you call this a L-C-R mix? I tend to "smear" the stereo field, generally speaking. At the risk of repeating myself, your sax player has mad skills! t
  4. Interesting mix of traditional sounds and synths. Are the voices samples? As always I'm humbled... t
  5. Got it! well, no , I didn’t buy it! but I understand. Thanks Lars t
  6. I have the iLok on the old Cat here in the office. My embroidery software is PACE protected; so a "dongle" there. Lots of vendors have gone away from the iLok, so I've never had to install on the new Cat in the studio. Frankly it was an "easy" to cure my sudden GAS; just being honest. I love it when there's an easy way to say "I don't really need this"... t
  7. More Kirby for sure! Good on ya. Not a crit, but I "hear" a grinding Hammond for this one Doug. I won't say I'd find a way to "trim" it down a bit (5:17 kinda long; for me). Whoops! I did say........ t Oh, I would add a moments silence on the beginning, its kind of abrupt.
  8. First, smart to post the original for comparison. So much better, much impressed. Technique is starting to catch up with your songwriting. My advice; lather, rinse, repeat... ?? t
  9. iLok authorization onto iLok2, iLok3, Host Computer or iLok cloud Ah, saved by the bell... @Christian Jones I know you love these guys so I was going to check out the demo, see what I am missing: but ilok, nah. As to reverb, first thing I do with an AmpliTube preset is kill the verb. I can see where the standalone is a horse of a different color. but I don't ride no more... tom
  10. Ya know I think David's right. Love when the horns hit there around 1:30. I'm giving ya a couple of ? ? ! Without a doubt very creative. I'm good with the mix, but what do I know? t
  11. No video Claudio? I think we lose the impact without the video. I'm not near as creeped out, but maybe that's a good thing... But hey, side A is in the can and good on ya for that! tom
  12. Another that seems to have fallen through the cracks. I'm thinking we gotta bring the drum track up quite a bit. Like that acoustic, sounds very good. But it does tend to dominate. Let the strings breathe a bit. The vocal is working. You're selling the story line; well done there. I think the parts are all here, I'd mix it different, if it was me... tom
  13. You've kind of fallen through the cracks here Paul. I think I'd build a little more in the pre-chorus. I hear an organ in there somewhere; I think I'd bring that up a bit. Overall, to me, its a good demo. Now lets build a little more energy throughout and hit that 3:16 mark running. t
  14. @RSMcGuitar You get the "key" and a link to the "creation" tool at checkout (see below) I ordered a DVD for $6.95 extra. I've got a few to do. PC World wants $3.95 to make your links available for 2 years (not that you would need it). HTH tom
  15. I found that quite annoying! for some reason, and I have these on both my Win 7 machines, I can't get it to work on my Win 10 machines; doh! tom
  16. I bought 2 at $109 awhile back. Been a WD Black (obviously "spinning" drives) user for some time. Samsung EVO's for SSD. So far the WD-SSD's are performing perfectly. tom
  17. It still worked back in December. I've been putting off a "clean" install (did the "in place" upgrade). As this was OEM Win 7 home to Win 10 Home, I'm all over a $39 upgrade to Retail Pro. If I'm going to go to all the trouble of a clean install, it makes sense to start fresh with Pro. Thanks! tom
  18. What's your mastering chain? Generally I listen on Bose cans and really can't see into a mix. Today I'm on the Babyface and DT990's; your master is "muffled" at best. I hate being critical without offering advice, I'd take a hard look at the chain... t
  19. I'll echo all the above; first rate cover! I must admit my awareness of Ponty is his collaboration with the late/great FZ. I would be remiss if I did not say "Welcome to the Forum", Looking forward to more... tom Alpha Purr is pretty cool too! "haven't tested this on a cat yet" That's quotable to be sure! I may have to nic that.....
  20. Lynn, Fine tune overall, really like the changes; well done. Very topical, another plus. Would I mix this a bit different, yeah I'm thinking my mix would be much different. Am I "right" and your mix is "wrong"? No, no-no, no-no, no! Dropped a "like" over at SounClick. I'll hold the "like" here for the final mix.... t
  21. I know what a Barque or Barquentine is. Its a sailing vessel with a specific sail setup. I do not know "who" Barquentine is, nor could I find Keda. What I do know, is you posted another fine video with a very well produced track; AAA+++ all round! t Should I assume you are doing the bulk of the writing?
  22. Studio here. I can confirm that when I create a “region” it appears to be empty. I hit “D” to close the multidock, then double click the clip and the clip is now ready to edit in the multidock. tom
  23. As always Jerry a pure delight! A question, did you write the piece for the poetry, or just select a piece that fit it? Once again thanks for sharing. t
  24. I listened again using the Babyface & Beyerdynamic 990's. The low end of the kick is no longer overwhelming (vs the soundchip & Bose cans; duh!). I'm a big fan of using the beater click to define the kick. But, would I mix it just a bit different? I think so, just me. Does it matter? Nope! No need to worry! Your tune, your production; its just fine... t
