  1. David, Very pleasant and a nice touch with the ocean waves. Which orchestral library are you using? I ask because the strings esp violin sound so much better than what I've done. Also do you put in a lot of articulations on the instruments?
  2. I really like this one. All the parts are very good - orchestration, drums, excellent voc - making the whole thing sound professional. Only crit is the guitar around 3:50 seemed too loud to me. Hope you stay inspired to keep on making music.

    Theme

Doug Thanks. I had auditioned a guitar, a cello, a violin, a bassoon and a clarinet to play the melody but the synth horn won out at the end. tom and Nigel Thanks for your comments. Appreciate that. Tom, I highly recommend NI acoustic pick Vst. Seems to fit in almost everywhere and sounds great. If you listen to it closely you realize that most patterns aren't all that tricky to do if you're competent at guitar, which I'm not.
  4. Tom Love that old blues sound which you captured very well with the instruments and you really got it going with the vocal. Nice!

    Look Ahead

Hi Lynn My 1st impression was that the song sounded familiar, like another one of yours from a while ago? Anyway, I really got into the song. Like it a lot. I've mentioned before that my hearing has gone downhill the last couple of years so I don't trust my ears to make meaningful comments. For example I heard some distortion at 1:07 but no one else commented on that so I don't know. Very nice moody piece Lynn. To me it reflects on how I feel after reading the paper every morning, day after day...
  6. Hi Doug Great rockin' tune and guitar work. Have you ever tried making a music video? I think your lyrics would make a good story in a video.

Just a nice melody with guitar, horn, lap steel guitar and synth pad. NI Session Guitarist Picked Acoustic U-He Zebra Indiginus Lap Steel guitar - highly recommended
  8. Thanks everyone for the comments. Didn't realize the voc was too low so will check that out. Daryl, I appreciate you mentioning the vocal effect. Wasn't sure how that would come across. Freddy, lately I've been listening to a lot of blues guitar from way back - 1920s to 1950s. I have nothing in common with those guys except I love the music.
  9. But..but they're doing it all wrong! ☺️
  10. Some keyswitches stay on but I think most of them only stay on for duration of keypress. In SO1 5 if the Vst has embedded keyswitch articulations then the keyswitch always stays on until you change it. Which doesn't work for things like slide keyswitches where you want it to disengage when you take your finger off the key. Example Load Presence Nylon Guitar Play some notes then hit the A0 key to make a slide The A0 key stays engaged and now every note you play slides, which is not the behavior I'm used to seeing.

    Question Marked

Interesting piece. Seems like you were trying for a mid East type scale but it's a bit meandering. I think I'd tone down the background sounds which to me became a little distracting. Thanks for posting.
  12. Can't say much more than what's already been said. Just excellent.
  13. You'll probably get a lot of "not what I usually listen to" around here, me included, but have to say that I liked it. Very infectious energy and toe-tapping beat. Cool lyrics too (never heard "boobs" in a love song before ☺️). Nice job.
  14. Freya Very new age ambient if that's what it's still called. I like the undulating percussive element in the background which holds things together. I thought it could use an instrument like a flute to come forward and do a solo for a while. Nicely done!
  15. Haven't used the built in notation yet. I was really looking forward to the new keyswitch feature but it's not doing what I think it should be doing. I put in the keyswitch and it does its articulation on a note, but the switch doesn't shut off. Instead it stays on and applies the articulation to all the subsequent notes, not what I'm used to seeing. Anyone else tried this out yet?
  16. Steve Boy does that take me back. Love it. You dialed in the vocal very close to the original. "telling tales of drunkeness and cruelty" One of my favorite lines for some reason. Regarding the stereo field mentioned above, I remember listening to a Beatles album on a stereo (!) record player and noticing there was hardly any center, just way left and way right. I suppose they made it mono at the radio station?
  17. Wookie, Cool sounds. So the patch changes with every MIDI note or every time it's loaded into the project? I bought Voltage Modular during a sale but have never used it. Will definitely take a look at it.
  18. Nice one David. You captured what an Irish song should sound like. I think you could boost the tempo a bit though.
  19. Can't even get on jrr site the past 24 hrs or so. Keep getting this error msg Have I been singled out or is it same for everyone? There has been an error processing your request SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection refused
  20. noynekker I'm very glad you liked the lyrics! Wasn't sure how they'd come across - either clever or maybe kind of stupid. Hey Doug Thank you! Andy Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement. And actually there is an organ in there. Guessing it needs to be brought up some more.

    Diamond Sky

Starise Thanks for the listen and comment. David The only composition study I've done is from The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Composition which, despite its title, is pretty good. Another book that's helped me is Guitar for Dummies and again, despite its title, it's a very good learning aid. Paul and Mark Thank you for the kind comments.
  22. Daryl Nice take on the song. Can't say enough how much I like Mrs D's voice.
  23. Don't know if it's related to Presonus servers but I can't login at jrrshop either.
