I received the Focus Elements Bundle as a freebie from PIB.
Is it worth installing?

Specs or it didn't happen!
Tell it all. What was the old system (whenever I see someone give the specs of a system they're retiring from DAW use, the specs are usually a system that would be a significant upgrade for me ?) If you're an IT person, you must have preferences in input devices as well. I got a new mousie today myself. Logi Anywhere 2.

My last DAW was self built around 7 years ago, and it was time for a new one. I'm a career "IT Guy," and although I spend most of my time these days in meetings and on airplanes, I've tried to stay technical enough to do everything for myself. I've built countless computers over the last 25 years or so, so I generally know my way around computers. I built a new water cooled gaming computer last year, and I came to the realization that I really just don't enjoy it anymore. Quite honestly, it was a pain in the rear, and I pretty much hated the process. It had always been a matter of pride for me to build my own computers, but I decided my next one would be purchased.
I started researching DAW builds around a year ago, but really couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I'm generally picky about things, and needed some flexibility that most manufacturers couldn't provide. Around 6 months ago, I contacted Jim and started talking to him about what I needed (and, sometimes more importantly, what I didn't.). Jim was extremely friendly, gracious with his time, and certainly understood my requirements. We emailed back and forth for several months (he probably wondered if I would ever hit that "purchase" button), and ordered a rack based DAW several weeks ago.
I received it about two weeks ago, and started getting it all set up. Jim has continually been a great help to me, and I couldn't be happier with my choice.
So, if any of you need a new DAW and don't want to build your own, check out https://www.studiocat.com/
Nice! I assume that you got the Pro Rack DAW? What did you provision yours with as far as CPU, RAM, and drives?

"Everything" owners will get a free upgrade to SynthMaster 3!!! Whenever it is finally released. The developer claims that he is finally putting his full attention toward this!!!
Definitely recommend the "Everything" bundle. I don't love every expansion pack, but there are so many good ones that make the bundle worth it. You even get all new expansions for free as they are released.
My favorites preset banks for SynthMaster 2 are the ones in Nori Ubukata's "Historic Synth Giants" and "Dawn of Electronic Music" series, and Big Tone's "Analog Basics" and "Tableworks" series. Plus there are plenty of others in the Pop, EDM, and electronic genres.
For SynthMaster One, there are now 14 banks, which are a bit more recent than the SynthMaster 2 banks, and lean toward the modern electronic styles, with the exception of Bluffmunkey's "Darkwave Sounds" and "Cinematic Sounds".

Just buy Vital Pro Pack and you get all 400 factory presets and 150 wavetables. $80. ?
The free version is probably sufficient if you plan to create your own presets and wavetables.

Thank you so much! Which Repro 5 pack did you end up getting?
I still have it in my cart, but plan to pull the trigger soon! The Repro 5 Pro Expansion. I normally don't buy a lot of preset banks, but based on the demo tracks in the video, this is a must have here!
I also have the Repro bank from Luftrum, as well as the Repro Power Pack from PluginGuru. I think that Repro is an awesome synth, so this will be a nice addition.

That CZ in the Arturia bundle is quite something.
I have that CZ V, as well as the Virtual CZ, and an original CZ1000 (not still in the box). The printed manuals for CZ1000 and the patch book were all you needed to get started with a synth. Big fun, although I was disappointed that the hardware keyboard, 49 full size keys. was not velocity sensitive. So the soft synth versions now allow me to have that long missing feature!
The Virtual CZ sounds just like the original, but I think that I like the UI from Arturia better.
When I used to try to run my CZ1000 through my home stereo (couldn't afford studio monitors in the 80's), the low notes nearly ripped the 12" woofers out of the speaker cabinets. Those fat mono sine waves were nasty!!! ?

There are now something like 80 free "Unified" preset banks for 3rd party synths. All you need to use them is to own the underlying 3rd party synth. Unify has a plug-in scanner like any plug-in host that can scan your plug-in paths, so that Unify keeps track of your "known plug-ins".
There are a number of paid Unify add-ons besides DiscoverStation that only require Unify to run, such as Unichill, Cloud City, Renegade, UniLofi, Megamagic Guitars for Unify, etc. These are Guru Sampler based and do not require any additional underlying synths to function. Guru Sampler is included in Unify standard, as well as are a number of included factory MIDI and audio FX.
In addition to the Unify-only add-ons, there are also some paid add-ons that require 3rd party synths, such as the Repro Power Pack, and FM8 Power Pack, etc.

And you’ll also find gigabytes of great sounds and FX included in the Unify purchase. Plus, you can then add free Unify add-ons to the libraries you already own, even the free Spitfire Labs series. If I’m correct, the only Unify add-on you’d have to pay for is DiscoverStation, the other ones are free. But paying for DiscoverStation is absolutely worth it, as it turns BBCSO into a multi-layered instrument.
Unify is a great value by itself, out of the box!

But... one simple question...
If I buy DiscoverStation, do I need to buy Unify too?
I see that Unify Standard has a price of $79, so If I want to buy DiscoverStation, I should pay $79 plus $35.40, isn't it?
Correct. DiscoverStation is a preset pack for Unify. In this case, you also need at least the free BBCSO Discovery plugin installed as well.

I owned a cz3000 which was basically two cz1000's. I found it possible to get FM like sounds. It was also the secret weapon to getting a particular type of bass sound popularized in Jersey house. I do appreciate those DX electric pianos though.
The CZ1000 was my first synth, mid-80's. ?

Wonderful vid by John SkipPy Lehmkuhl on using BBCSO (even the free version) in Unify.
DiscoverStation for Unify is on sale right now for $35.40.
https://www.pluginguru.com/products/discoverstation-corestation-unify-bbcso/
His summer sales change week to week, so not sure how long this will be a deal. Normally $59.

I agree that BBCSO would probably work much better with an SSD, at least for the load times. Spitfire appears to load all samples into RAM.
@Yan FiliatraultI have BBCSO Core and tried loading a full orchestra template into Studio One. 16 GB RAM choked on that. ?

Let's let that be the last time we reference his name in this thread. The moderators might lock it down! ?

You know he's been posting for feedback on the site here, right? Whenever an item comes up that I'm interested in, that's the first place I go to compare. It's a fantastic idea!
That's how I knew about it, and your feedback with suggestions. It has improved a lot since I last used it.
I thought it might be nice to put it out there on the "Deals" forum during Larry's vacation for those with fat wallets. ?

I don't think that's what this is, cause even live I've never seen these problems in their shows. No, the problem in most likely the VSTs. Older generation VST always had that problem in the top, and so did guitar amps and everything else. They also sounded flat, bloated and sluggish, which I was noting in the sound before. There are some good plugin synths out there now, but not all of them are, and probably 5 years ago, when the show was recorded, they weren't even out.
The show was recorded in 2007. So 15 year old technology.

I grew up with Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Klaus Schulze, Yanni - back whan he was playing synths - Kitaro, Tangerine Dream, so on...
But that never seemed to be a problem on their records. The frequencies were more well balanced. I guess it was the hardware, going to tape, etc.
That being said, I prefer a good drum kit over a drum machine any day, myself, but there are some genres where it would be harder to make them gel. JMJ started to use real drums from Rendez-Vous to Chronologie, then electric guitars, and made it work well.
Obviously there are some compromises when capturing and mixing a live performance vs. a studio production.
This the end, or is it
