Thx, I saw they review not too long ago.  The only issue I have with it right now is that it seems the longer I browse the presets it then doesn’t seem to load them.  I’ll select a preset, all is great, about 15 minutes later the text in the loading bar with the sample info will turn red.  Then samples won’t load, and I have to restart my DAW.

The InMusic Brands family of companies like AIR Music Tech and SONiVOX have been years since  releasing the last update or bug fix patch for their older products. I'm not certain they ever updated anything for Windows 10 (released 2015), and they are falling further behind every day as Windows evolves. Not a good recipe for continued compatibility.

Development of application software is best kept in sync with the developments kits used by the latest OS. Using the OS (Windows 7) that was mainstream when the application was written and tested may be the best option for compatibility.

If you think you found a bug in Structure you could contact their support and open a ticket, but if it needs a patch I wouldn't hold my breath. https://airmusictech.com/support

Well got it working!  Do you know off hand how many sound categories there are supposed to be?  I keep worrying that I didn’t get them all (I don’t always have the best luck with sample players and sound content.., like SampleTank 4 SE., what a nightmare!)

    SMD

I don't have them installed anymore to count them, and they are not listed in the manual or the AIR Music product page. But the Structure 2 library should be about 37GB in size.

I uninstalled it to make room for SampleTank 4 MAX. You think SE was a nightmare, LOL!!!

I thought that the samples in Structure 2 were very good. But the UI is quite dated at this point and needs an update.  Especially needs a scalable UI and a better browser. But if you are patient it is mostly functional.

    Here is a review (from 2015): https://soundbytesmag.net/structure2byairmusic/

The problem is late writings to the usb file system. If something writes to the usb at the same time you remove it, it will be destroyed. I was a bit hasty one time and there was no way to recover the files on it because the whole filesystem was a mess and nonexisting for recovery software.

I did that to USB hard drive once, and the partition disappeared. I was lucky to find some partition recovery tools (not file recovery) that recovered the partition table with all files  still intact.

But it probably depends on what exactly gets zapped with that last write. The keyword here is that I was lucky!

Your advice to power off is the safest method, followed by ejecting the USB drive with the "safely remove hardware and eject media" icon in the task bar notification  area. If that doesn't work because the drive shows in use  try this: if it shows up in disk management, you can offline it there and then online it again. Afterwards it should allow the eject command to work and say "safely removed".

It would probably be wise to do this methodically when switching between PCs using the USB switch, if there is storage attached to it.

To be fair, 'Afterglow' was the very first preset I loaded, which left a negative impression. I've since gone through most of the presets in the main 'Polysynths' category and didn't have any problems, so it's probably 'just one of those things', rather than a major issue.

OK, I took a look at those two presets, and didn't see any unusual system demands with either one. No dropouts here. Running a 3rd gen Intel Core i3 desktop on Windows 10 with  SSDs for system and content drives. Firewire ASIO for audio output

  5. I picked up LiquidRhythm a while back from WaveDNA. Never tried Liquid Music.

LiquidRhythm is a unique way to create drum patterns, and you can use the LR pattern generator with any drum VST in your DAW, if you want to use your preferred drum sounds instead of the internal sounds in LR.

It would be interesting to hear from any users that are using Liquid Music as to how it expands the chord progressions and song ideas...

And just FYI, the old bug with Sonar and the transport loop appears to have been resolved with Liquid Rhythm in  the current version of CbB! The loop region appears to remain intact while looping with LR!

Previously, the loop region in the Sonar host would eventually (after x number of loops) just run past the end of the loop length in LR and keep going (the loop length in the host and LR must match) .

Thanks abacab.  I'm just not quite sure what the love is for Steinberg designed software over other potential alternatives? One man is responsible for both ASIO and VST development.

While I think plugin makers need a standard, I don't quite understand why everyone adopted Steinberg software into their DAWs? Yes it is free. Is that the only reason?

Is it really that no one else wanted to attempt it? Because it was easier to take a free tool that works? I think if it were a non profit entity that oversees it I would feel more comfortable about it.

The bottom line for many is simply the inconvenience of planned obsolescence. Eventually VST 2 will become obsolete since VST 3 is built on another system. I would like to see a more backwards compatible system where one shell can house several different designs and not be phased out .  Software has been based on upgrade paths for profitablity  and not because it could not have been more backwards compatible. Plugin designers are not making money if they have to redesign their plugins every 5 years because the wrapper was changed. I like to see improvements as an  option. Am I overly opinionated? Probably....but I know what I want and I suspect many others aren't happy with the eventual end of VST2.

Look at 26:20 on this video. Before that he says GPL ok for a "university".  Sounds like the rest need to get a license.

Thanks for that video, it was very informative!

Well. the first point is that without questioning why or how Steinberg ended up in this role, VST is a current standard 20+ years in the making. Plus they are now fully owned by Yamaha, so they do have some industry weight behind them.

I'm not opposed in any way to a workable plugin standard that is controlled by a non-profit org, such as MIDI.org has done with the MIDI spec.

But those standards are decades in the making by the very nature of the concepts of a standard. You need ALL of the equipment and/or software manufacturers to sign up for said "standard". Otherwise we are back in the wild without a standard, and with each manufacturer releasing their own. And efficiency by committee is not the fast track by any means!

how do you have Analog Lab if you don't have an account? You need the Arturia account and their software center to install updates and what not. Just create the account and enter your serial.

I almost asked the same question. But then I thought maybe he doesn't have it yet and was asking about the deal... ?

I've asked this before, but don't recall getting an answer, so seeing as we're talking Arturia here..........

Is there an upgrade/crossgrade path for Analog lab owners to V collection and if so how many beer tokens would it require?

I think the answer is yes. Just sign in to your Arturia account and it should show you any deals you are qualified for.

But I would wait until they run the 50% off deal on the V Collection. For me the deal is $399 right now.

Analog Lab 4 is very nice, and I do like how Pigments 2 integrates with it. Btw, Pigments 2 is not included in V Collection 7, but Analog Lab is.

  9. I have never used the iLok key, always just the soft iLok License Manager.

My products allow 2 iLok activations, and I have never seen that limited to one at a time. Just my 2 cents...

Good luck with your PC project. I just set up a new laptop bought mainly for travel and away from home office use, not as a DAW. But I want to take my toys with me so I had to narrow the list down to stuff I actually use, and would fit on a 250GB SSD. Still was a lot of time downloading, installing and activating that much, LOL, so I feel ya!

I bagged Pigments last night for 50% off but on the Arturia website not at plugin boutique.

With Arturia stuff It really doesn't make much difference who you buy it from. Because once you activate it on the Arturia site, it is always available in your account through Arturia Software Center.

The advantage with a 3rd party reseller like PB is that you can use any available Virtual Cash to extend your discount.

thank you so much for your answers! could you explain how to do this bit? i ended up adding a second tts. is that what this means? im sorry english isnt my first language and i get a bit confused

The TTS-1 is multi-timbral and is like having 16 instrument voices in one plugin instance, each one capable of responding to a different MIDI channel, 1-16. Or all on the same channel for a big. layered sound played together.

So you would  only need one TTS-1 to do what you want, but if it is less confusing you can add a second TTS-1. That way each gets its own MIDI track automatically routed to their respective TTS-1 on MIDI channel 1 when you insert TTS-1 as a simple instrument track. There are 16 MIDI channels on EACH track.

To do a multi with one instance of TTS-1 will require a separate MIDI track for each sound you want TTS-1 to play. You will need to "add MIDI track" manually for each additional MIDI channel you wish to use, then manually set the track to the instrument and channel you want to respond to that track.

In the following example I have three instruments set up in TTS-1.

    1. Piano, using the MIDI output from the initial simple instrument track. Track output set to Cakewalk TTS-1, MIDI ch 1.

    2. Acoustic Bass, using an additional MIDI track. Track output set to Cakewalk TTS-1, MIDI ch 2.

    3. Synth Pad, using another additional MIDI track. Track output set to Cakewalk TTS-1, MIDI ch 3.

Of course there are other plugin specifications beside VST.  AVID has AAX, Apple has AU and Linux has LSP.  To my knowledge LSP is the only plugin specification that is truly open source.  More information is available here:  https://lsp-plug.in/

Of course, but those formats are of little interest to Cakewalk users using Cakewalk, since it has no support for AAX or AU, etc.

Cakewalk being the assumed scope of this particular forum, "Cakewalk Products > Instruments & Effects ... ?

Not sure what GPL is?  The implication is it is free. This may be true, however Steinberg seem to be controlling how long the code is relevant. It might be similar to Cakewalk being free but one day they come along and say, "We have improved our program, in order to use it though you can't use any older versions."

Money must be involved here in some way. Why would Steinberg give it away to their competition for free?

    Steinberg VST 3

Please see my comments edited above. Have added a link to the Steinberg VST3 license which clearly establishes it as a GPL licensed technology. Also a link to the GPL description at Wikipedia.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

This might be a good time for all DAW makers to unify over a new standard and tell Steinberg to take a hike.

We did it with midi and vsti instrument shells why can't we do it with plugins? Develop a free easily ported standard that all  plug in makers can adopt and stop paying licensing fees to Steinberg. There really is no reason why this couldn't be done. I mean, The  plugins in the Pro Channel inside of Cakewalk are nothing but re written vsts. This was done 10 years ago?  Think outside of the box. Go bigger.

All you need for this to happen is-

    A. A new standard that doesn't infringe on vst3 copyright.

    B. Widespread adoption by DAW and plugin writers.

I'm not a programmer or I would be tempted to give it a shot.  Someone needs to roll the ball here. You could start out with a bunch of free plugins in the new standard to get people interested/started.

I believe VST3 is GPL. That is why the Surge devs have turned to it for their free open source license.
