Did somebody say "Max Headroom"?
-
Let's hope that we never achieve that! But raising interest rates now sure looks like it would crash everything.

Sounds like CPU shortage, but it’s not.

Good point! My impression is that many developers are probably building and testing their code on the very latest hardware. So the likelihood of issues with older/lesser capable hardware may be overlooked. by them. So freezing synth tracks, and selective sends to FX busses (rather than inserting effects on each track) could be a worthwhile effort if you run into issues with performance on your PC . -
Fixed it for you...

No problem! Found what I was looking for, and had just overlooked!

Hey thanks! That's the same link that I posted yesterday. But I took another look and noticed that the VST3 version is a separate executable.

If you do not yet have a squeaky clean LatencyMon report, you will likely continue to have some issues with DPC latency. It is what it is... With an off the shelf laptop, you may encounter DPC latency issues unless you have an exceptional unit. An i7 laptop CPU is relatively under powered compared with a similar desktop CPU. Mobile processors have lower clock speeds to lower heat output and power consumption. Off the shelf laptops are typically optimized for uses other than audio production. So laptop choices should be selected from known good audio laptop models (those that others have had a good real-time audio experience with). Gaming or video editing laptops are not going to be guaranteed to work with real-time audio. Those are not real-time activities. -
A link to KORG_Software_Pass_1_1_3 with a Setup.exe v1.1.3 was emailed to me by the KORG Shop. This link at a KORG page downloads the same Setup.exe with a v1.1.3 file. The file hashes match. https://id.korg.com/static_pages/3 That being said, Software Pass seems to have a strange little bug for me. It still shows two products as uninstalled, although I did download all good installers and installed them all successfully. Not a real problem though, but it may offend those with OCD. ? Nixon ended the gold backing of the dollar back in the 70's. Now it's just government promises... and printing presses...

Is there an available stand-alone host for VST3 plugins? Just noticed that Nano and SAVI only see VST2 type plugins.

It is most likely #3, if it's not any of the others... -
Good tip! SAVIhost is free, and also works for hosting exactly one VSTi plugin. https://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm The author also wrote VSTHost, which allow for more complex routing between plugins. https://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

Thanks! I missed owning the original Korg M-1, but I was impressed with the sounds in the local music store! But I did end up with a Korg X2, 76 key workstation. But that was right about the time that I discovered PC based MIDI sequencers. So I sold my Korg. Don't ever sell your Korg, LOL! Missed those sounds! So I think it's great that you can get them in a VST now! Plus the Wavestation is a mythical beast that I never got my hands on!

We need a new VST instrument inside Cakewalk
abacab replied to EnglandBross's topic in Instruments & Effects
Agreed. I could never get it to work correctly with SampleTank, for instance. So I decided to stay focused on what would work, and it that regard VIP had much more capability than NKS. Sad that Akai/inMusic abandoned the project. A lot of lost potential! Best workaround that I found is to use what works using VIP as a plugin on an instrument track within Cakewalk (or whatever DAW you choose), and then using Kontakt, or SampleTank, etc., as separate instrument tracks in your DAW. -

What other synths have you tried with VIP that didn't work? It's hit or miss, but most synths that I've tried will at least import patches manually. Before Akai shut down their user groups, I managed to grab a few VIP user created plugin maps for Dim Pro, Rapture, and Z3TA+2. They don't have all the expansions, but cover the factory presets. Not all plugins will import presets to VIP, because some plugins refuse to share preset info with their host. It's problem with the plugin. Akai never tried to put restrictions on 3rd party plugins like Native Instruments does with Komplete Kontrol and their NKS ecosystem. -

I'll say this again because I have all of the old Cakewalk Sonar plugins. I love some of the old instruments too! They are cool for nostalgia's sake, and many of them even still sound great! But I have a hard time justifying the hard drive space to keep them around. Time has marched on, and there are much better VST instruments available, even for free now! If you want more, just go out and download the free plugins that are available, or buy professional plugins if you can afford them. Cakewalk as a core DAW is the best free DAW available anywhere. A lot of the previous purchase price for Sonar was tied up in premium instrument and effects add-ons. So just roll your own bundle now, and you are all set!
