And to expand on this comment, I will add that MODO Bass sounds great, but doesn't have any songwriting or player assists. EZBass has a plethora of songwriting assists and multiple ways to get your music into it and create bass parts that work with your music, as a composer or producer. And the ujam Virtual Bassist has a focus on being the bass player, with included styles and 1,000+ phrases. VB 2.0 includes both a player mode and an instrument mode. The phrases in VB 2.0 can be dragged into your DAW track, retaining the key info that your currently selected pattern is currently being played with. So I cannot see much overlap between these 3 products... I would say that they are complementary.

The Cakewalk instruments are a separate download from the main DAW download. Look in BandLab assistant under the Apps tab. Click the dropdown arrow in the Cakewalk section beside the word "Open". Select "Install Add-ons".

Then you will need to remove the track plugins first, then freeze it. You can freeze, and then process the frozen audio track with the FX you need after you have the lead without cut outs. If the track cuts out again, use different plugins. -

The LP EQ in the FX menu is the L Phase Equalizer that scook was referring to earlier. Look in the bottom right corner of the plugin UI. It says "L Phase Equalizer". -
MODO is a great sounding bass! Plus the advantage of modeling rather than sampling is that you can set up a bass exactly the way you like it. As far as I know, all of the alternatives to MODO use samples. So with samples there's no way to change the many bass options unless they are also included in the sample library. But with MODO you can switch from 4 strings to 5 or 6 strings, fingered or picked, round or flat wound strings, passive or active electronics , body style, etc., with just a few clicks...

Video cued to begin at tip #2, Freeze (video is a few years old, using Sonar for the example, but still applies): -

Freeze should work. It does a quick mixdown of the selected instrument track, along with any inserted FX, resulting in an audio track in its place. Audio tracks with no FX use almost no (insignificant) CPU processing. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Mixing.23.html -

Did you read my suggestion to freeze instrument tracks? -

You quoted a reply that I have deleted after I read your resolution post. Responded to the CPU question instead. -

Glad that you found it! If you freeze the synth track after you have it sounding the way you like, you end up with an audio track with the FX applied. The synth track and plugins get archived, so no longer a burden on the CPU. Freeze and unfreeze anytime as you wish. Best way to deal with CPU hogs! -

Bypass all the effects. If that works, then enable them one at a time until the problem resumes. -

There was a YouTube video recently comparing EZbass and ujam Virtual Bassist v2. That would be a different struggle. I have MODO Bass, and that's not the same at all. What you could do is record/edit your MIDI parts from either EZbass, or ujam Virtual Bassist v2, and then play the part back with a custom MODO bass.

It would seem that NI should consider loosening up some controls with the licensed full Kontakt, so that users can customize their own local installation for this. But it is, what it is! Anyhow, thanks for the helpful info!
-
So you are saying that even if I was to create a library of my own, I would have to pay NI for a license to encode for Kontakt Player in order to include it in the Library view?
-
Great info! I have the library now! Looking forward to lots of fun! But just one general question about using Kontakt libraries, since you seem to be a power collector of Kontakt libraries... I recently acquired the full version of Kontakt as a very good crossgrade deal, and I'm stoked that "requires full Kontakt" never needs to be a concern again! However, I've noticed that these 3rd party Kontakt libraries do not show up in the left hand "Libraries" panel like the Native Instruments libraries do. Is there any way to set that up yourself, or are you limited to always using the "Files" view or "Quick-Load" to locate your '.nki' file?

We need a new VST instrument inside Cakewalk

Good to know. I've never looked at the BandLab app... -
I have repurposed my Windows 7, Intel 3rd gen i5-3570K 3.4 Ghz CPU, with 16GB memory, and a GTX 950 GPU, as my 'media center/gaming' PC in my living room. I load all sorts of crap on that, and take a full disk image weekly. Can roll back if necessary, but so far all is well...

Is there any MIDI export, or MIDI out to your DAW tracks for the patterns you generate?

Just a heads up, about the Live 11.0.5 installer. After the update, the previous point release of 11 was still installed, resulting in a 4GB reduction in my available disk space. So I used the Programs and Features module of Control Panel to remove the previous point release. This resulted in the restoration of my missing disk free space, and version 11.0.5 continued to run, no re-install necessary. Weird!
