    selim

outstanding jack ??....i thought you were covering Miles Davis' "Selim" from 1971....i think this great song, along with "My Special Place" are my two favorite compositions of yours so far....no disrespect at all to Mr. Davis intended here but you have the better melody lines in your Selim piece....great work, sir!!!! ????
  2. hi Peter....very respectable cover of a piece of music that really has no equal ????

yes, this genre of music (smooth jazz) is what an FM station here in Los Angeles called The Wave 94.7 would play from 1987 to 2010....you guys do your collaborations extremely well....and while this isn't the best material you guys have created it's very chill sounding and works as that type of music....cheers!!!! ????
  4. hi Tom....i just posted the new mix and i did eliminate the hi hat/metronome and think your suggestion is a huge improvement....thanks again very much!!!! ????
  5. Hi mark....thank you very much....i just posted a new mix and i tried to get the L/R guitars clearer....the "Chords of Orion" guy is awesome......listening to his "My EBow Guitar is Gently Weeping) right now....cheers!!!! ????
  6. great song....great work you guys did....the mix isn't really bad at all, archetypal sixties style....bass level sounds good to my ears....sounds like you have a sitar guitar happening in there....iirc, I think the wrecking crew ( los angeles' premier session musicians in the sixties) did the playing with only Jim (later Roger) Mc Guinn playing his 12 string electric Rickenbacker on the song ? ???
  7. agree that your vocal is way good....the music behind you is good but too, what's the word....perfect????....Good Luck ?⛱️??
  8. Thanks!!!! this piece has been around since the eighties or so....i added a few motifs in the last few months to try to improve it....cheers!!!!
  9. Hi Tom, Thanks for your kind words on this tune....appreciate your listening to this song and suggestions....i'm going to see how it sounds without the hi hat percussion hits, i think that's a geat idea, and bring up the volume a dB or so....cheers!!!! ????
  10. i've always enjoyed melodies on top of other melodies (polyphony I think it's called) and your piece does a great job of that....at this point in the mix you already have quite a bit of motifs to work with....if i was to add another motif since the tone is ominous i would try adding a motif that doesn't use the major scale ????
  11. hi again....watch this Guitar Comp video when you redo the guitar, once you know how to record using the comp feature you will be amazed: https://youtu.be/f3M_XcHFl5Y
  12. your voice is fine and will get better the more singing you do....just last month i decided to watch some You Tube videos on how to sing and the results in my voice have been incredible....for sure, i'm no paul mccartney, mick jagger, roger daltry nor sting....but as one of the voice teachers, Ken Tamplin, says "The only difference between someone who sings and someone who doesn't is the singer has the guts to do it!!" lol!!!! and, funnily enough, i now tend to agree with him....here are three links to who i consider to be the best vocal coaches on You Tube: 1. 13. Thank You very much Kevin....i have been spoiled by listening to an abundance of ambient/minimalist/electronic music lately which does tend to repeat motifs at the expense of dynamics/musical variations/creativity....repetition in music is so unpredictable, sometimes it works and other times doesn't....generally, the things i have been writing i use to help keep myself relaxed and not so stressed....cheers!!!! ????
  14. Thanks Kevin....i was not aware of the distinction....i may get one of those puppy's too ????
  15. Hi Kevin....i'm late to the party but have to say this is a way cool jam that simmers all the way through....guitars tones are great, vox is perfect ????
  16. i agree completely with Kevin about the mic shield (aka pop filter, Amazon has them too)....huge improvement in my vox so, imho, it's really worth the money....???? EDIT: please see NEXT POST from Kevin who corrects my incorrect understanding of the mic shield (Thanks again Kevin....cheers!!!!)
  17. there's a lot to learn, but we all learn a little at a time....i'll try to offer some ideas based on your post.... 1. sample librairies are great and you have them 2. as far as re-recording the guitar part there are numerous ways to do that.... a. use an audio interface with a microphone and record it live, effects can be added later b. plug it directly into the audio interface and record it, or, plug it directly into the audio interface and launch the Cakewalk TH3 guitar VST and you can pick an amp, cabinet and various effects contained in the VST (you can always launch the TH3 after recording a clean take directly and spice it up that way) c. after recording the guitar part you can create an auxillary track of it which is an exact duplicate of it and play around with panning, EQ, effects, balance, volume, etcetera 3. the noise in the vocal track between the singing i always eliminate by automating the volume down to zero between the vox lines....compression is a totally different process that effects the audio quality 4. panning can be controlled by the Pan knob in the Console View module of the track, it can also be automated in the Clip Box so, there is a lot to learn but once you start doing it the learning curve is realtively fast, i can't reccommend Mike Enjo's You Tube tutorials enough at #creativesauce ....he covers all the above clearly...hope this helps ????

    demo mix

you are learning quite well....no engineer can fix a poor performance but there are no poor performances here, quite the opposite: great vox, playing, arrangements....very, very good results and finished song....enjoyed it ??️??

great song, arrangement, playing production, mix....ready for market....good luck!!!! ????
  20. the music: works completely as a great soundscape the video - totally subjective comments: the high points were huge and a few that i thought could be done differently....cheers!! ?️???
  21. Hi Nigel....i must say the songs you post aren't in my current wheelhouse (really, who the hell does ambient pop music but me???? ? ) so i usually don't comment, but without a doubt, all the songs you post here are highly melodic with great vocals, playing, production and are virtually ready for market....my subjective nitpicks on A Slender Thread are a few seconds here and there where maybe the drums can be tightened up a tad, overall, great work on the music as well as the video....cheers!! ????
  22. Thanks Bjorn....yes, the repetitive notes are a somewhat subjective audio taste as not everyone enjoys that type of playing throughout most of a song....i tried it at various audio levels and to my ears i went with what i thought was the best volume....cheers!! ????
  23. Thank You treesha....the plucked notes consist of two live guitars, one on the left and one on the right and they do have a few missteps that i wasn't able to hide, lol!! cheers!! ????
  24. Thanks David....the harmony/chord voicings in the song are the result of the alternating G to G# bass notes simultaneously sounding with descending midrange guitar notes....usually, i try to choose notes that fit but aren't the first notes one might think of playing such as Donald Fagen does so fabulously....thanks for the Pat Metheny comparison, his 2020 album "From This Place" is absolutely brilliant....cheers!! ????
