Mixing at low volumes is a literal cheat code my friend. If a mix works at low volumes, it will sound amazing loud. Also, at low volumes, things that poke out too much or are too prominent in the mix are easier to hear than when it's all loud. It takes getting used to, but you should give it more time. The saving your hearing is also a great side benefit of course.

To be fair, that can be a very useful tool if you have a large amount of projects and are looking for a specific one without needing to open them one by one. Maybe they could work on the volume being a bit more moderate for previews.

It's not simple exactly, but when I get in this pickle, I just hover over the node (or nodes) that are an issue, right click and manually punch in zero in the menu that pops up.

Hey MsMcleod, I've got that same dongle, and tried to use it last night with a HDD I have. I wanted to back up my system to another drive other than my normal backup drive. They system would see it, but it wouldn't spin up. Is there anything else you're using with this dongle? It's a regular WD HDD blue drive, 3.5, if that helps.

Sometimes windows does automatically, sometimes it doesn't. You have to read up on your specific PC's requirements. I've got a thinkstation p320, and it supports nvme/m2 drives, but you have to buy a bracket and update the motherboards drivers to make it the main OS drive. If I don't do that, then it's used as a regular storage drive by the system. So check your systems paperwork or online forum, and that should tell you right away.

Sorry David, hadn't seen your reply when I posted.

Set snapping to whole note (or whatever one you need). Highlight the section you want to copy, press control, click and drag to the spot you want in your session.

This. To add to what David was saying, this is another reason I go into settings whenever I set up cakewalk on a new rig, and change stretch settings pretty much all to elastique pro.

Do you use wave plugins? A quick and dirty way of doing the same thing I described before is to do the control L thing, and then instead of melodyne use waves pitchshifter. It's not as "clean" as melodyne is for most things, but it works surprisingly well on a lot of material. It also has different algorithms too, so if one sounds a bit wonky, you can try another. I use that sometimes when I need to fit a part and don't want to fuss too much with it. Try it.

I haven't used cakewalks/sonars x's loop construction view in ages. I'll say this. What I do now a days is get the bpm of the loop working in my project, create the loop manually by hitting control L, then I make a region effect with melodyne and experiment with the different algorithms to see which one pitches the loop the best, least destructively. Loop construction was useful back in the day when acid loops where being used a lot in music creation, but frankly we have so many tools that do that now, and with less artifacts, that I haven't even looked at it anymore. Also, if my way of doing it doesn't work for you, you could also load up a vst for this like Serato sample or something similar. Serato sample pitches things and stretches them with so little artifacts that sometimes people don't believe me when I let them listen to the original source clip. Hope this helps.

Are you talking about cakewalk, cakewalk product center or literally actually the bandlab app that is an online daw?

SampleTank 4 no longer works in latest Cake...
Helios.G replied to Steve Patrick's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Sounds like a corrupt file somewhere in your installation. I've had that happen in the past. It's a pain, but a clean install might be worth it to you. -
I'm honestly not sure. But for whatever it's worth, I tried just that a while back, and what ended up happening was that when recording in loop mode (which I tend to do when comping vox's) New take lanes were created and the old ones were left blank save for the 1st one. There might be a way for that behavior to be different, but I personally don't know how to tweak that. I don't know, it's not the biggest issue, but I have issues with depth perception, so any visual aids come in handy for me.

Hey Promidi, what do your tips do. They sound interesting, but what are they for exactly? Thanks!

Does Steinberg (Cubase) hears the drumbeat?

Hey John, How's mixcraft on cpu? Any idea on studio one? I'm just looking to keep my options open. -
Error message when updating to 2024.03 Build 417

Did you have your internet on while updating? Just wondering if maybe it tried to reach bandlabs servers and couldn't for some reason. -
Mix Recall- how to transfer to another project?
Helios.G replied to John Vere's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hey Scook, quick question, has this function been taken away or deprecated in some form? I have a source project that I saved a recall of. I was doing an alternate mix of the exact same project in another saved session. It got a bit away from me, so I decided to use your technique to go back to the originals levels and such, but it doesn't do anything at all. EDIT: Never mind, I realized why it wasn't working. I had floated a group of tracks to a different position in track view. As soon as I remembered and floated them back, I was able to place the mix recall in place no problem. Anyhow, my fault, user error. -
Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface
Helios.G replied to mark foster's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This right here. I have a hard time differentiating between the background, the waveform and the gui. It feels like all one thing, with very little to discern what's what on my screen. -
Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface
Helios.G replied to mark foster's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Personally, I don't care that it looks "flat" but I myself have never enjoyed the inverse clip colors where the "meat" of the sound is bright and the background is dark/black. It hurts my eyes like nobodies business. Each version of sonar that has had it since 6 or X I can't remember, I've gone through the trouble of changing it or getting a theme on here that has it inverse. My 2 cents, but it's not all about style for some of us. -
Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface
Helios.G replied to mark foster's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I don't have an issue with the general flat look of it all, but that color scheme is hard on the eyes yeesh! I know that there are other color schemes under the hood, but they didn't do much for that department either, imho. I hope they allow themers to start modding again, cause I can't see myself using it long term the way it looks right now. -
[CLOSED] Cakewalk 2024.02 Early Access
Helios.G replied to Morten Saether's topic in Early Access Program
Whut? -
I'd like a modified version of your idea and the original way. So the clip name, with an underscore and the project details at the end. Like that we get the best of both worlds, knowing what the file actually is, but also where it might've come from.
-
I've had this issue for ages. What I tend to do is set up my markers, however many I need, and zoom in to the sample level and make sure they are on grid one by one. Since I don't like doing this every single damn time, I've just got 3 basic templates set up to build projects from that I go to now, and I haven't done this in a while. Sorry you're having trouble with this.
