I'm trying to look a few things up and I notice that all the diagrams and pictures are just a tiny Icon. I can click it and it says to load picture but nothing happens. What I'm trying to find out is in regards to moving a clip to a new track below the original. it seems to me If I hold down Ctrl and drag the clip it will make a copy in the new track- If I hold down shift the clip will move and land exactly in the same place on the time line you can't drag it horizontally at all. I cannot find this as a fact in the documentation anywhere. Are there more?

I think we were typing same time. You can open the dialogue in the synth rack it’s on the top right. Also you can just insert a midi track and point it to the instrument. At this point what I would do is drag all your midi to midi tracks. Save the synth set up as a pre set. Delete synth and all the associated tracks. Use the Add Track widget and choose the synth Then in advanced choose the multi track output option. This will insert the synth with a simple instrument per track. you can also create a folder here. Now drag and drop the midi tracks back to the new instrument tracks. Hold shift so they don’t wander off grid Load your saved pre set to regain your previous settings

Thanks a ton for your feedback. I appreciate it more than you might realize. And mostly because of it I will redo the video and add the missing info. As I said above as I make the videos I try and explore all options and as a result learn how stupidly complicated Cakewalk is. I would love it if they only had one way. That’s the way every other software works. I think I’ll change it to there are 9 ways to insert a VST I’ll show you the few that most people commonly use. Back to your issue. I see nothing wrong with your set up. Until I explore this append option however I can’t comment on if that might be the issue. But I can see that if you had inserted the synth and choose multiple outputs you would not have had to add the extra tracks later. Have you opened the synth rack to check you don’t have more than one instance of that synth inserted? I will also point out when I redo the video the options in the synth rack to show the insert dialogue box. In the mean time try the new Add Track dialogue as it’s a more user friendly interface

@msmcleod. Excellent screen shots but. That’s all clearly shown in the video. I demonstrated all 9 ways to insert instruments. As well as all the ways to use both dialogue boxes to select all the options. Everything is covered very clearly. Including setting up 4 outputs in TTS1. I can understand that experienced users don’t want to waste time watching tutorials but I personally would like comments and feedback as I’m willing to make changes so that this series is as accurate as I can make it. There are many videos kicking around but every one I watch has either outdated info or only shows you one way to do something when there are multiple options available. I’m trying to show all options and let the users choose which one works for them. This is especially true with soft synths. I have only ever used the synth rack to insert instruments and I don’t even know when the new Add Track button appeared. I also always avoided Simple Instrument Tracks. I Always used instruments plus a midi track But for making the tutorials I explored all the options and now I see the benefits of the new dialogue box and using Simple Instruments. Exploring all the options has taught me dozens of better workflow methods. My concern here is that the video didn’t work for the OP and I’m wondering why. Did I miss something? Was I not clear? It boils down to either I’m a pour teacher or they are a pour student. A good teacher should be able to teach anyone, even those who have difficulty. So this is important to me. That video took 2 weeks to make. I need to decide if it’s all worth it before I spend the whole winter either contributing or wasting my time.

When I'm demonstrating the original dialog box I show you the ask every time box, it is not available in the new dialog. I actually don't know what you mean by " Append midi track" ? Never heard of that. I see it's a menu item under Tracks, but its always greyed out no matter what I select? A search of the documentation ends with nothing. I can only think it's not what you use to set patches, you use the inspector or the GUI of the instrument. If you use the GUI the INspector is set to none, I'm very clear about this in the video. So possibly your workflow is different than most. In the video I clearly show you how to use all the option of inserting tracks and how to set the patch and bank changes. I've never had it not work since I learned all that. The only thing that sometimes happens if it is a downloaded file then there might be program changes you might find in the event list.

I cover this in this video if you have further questions please ask

This is actually still the old Cakewalk/ Sonar forum. It got moved and re branded when Bandlab took over. Many here like me still have Splat installed as to get the add ins that came with it. There’s not much point using an old version anymore you but the stuff that came with Sonar is not available to new users of the latest Cakewalk. So once you get your access to your account make sure to download and make backups of it as well as copy all the serial numbers to a word document. X3 is my treasured copy because it was the last one made for true offline install and activation. I hope that never happens because I depend on the better features that Cakewalk now has.

And that. I have a 124 songs in my basic set list. over 200 if I count a different act I play in. These days i actually only need around 30 songs to kill off a night. The events are often dinner and dance so the dance part is only 2 sets. Ive looked into the other options for live performance but none have everything on my checklist Playback 4 Audio tracks Play midi just for equipment control and lights display the lyrics on a second screen fast set list editing drag and drop Control playlist and start stop with foot switch Funny thing is my Atari system did all this other than the audio tracks. But then I used midi sound modules anyway. I always meant to contact Jeff Koftinoff and ask if it was possible to port his software to PC. I can run it in STeam on Windows XP http://atari-music.fddvoron.name/promid.htm Check out all this now free midi software for Atari most was written in the late 80,s. Notice the original Cubase. As I said if you have XP you can run the Atari emulation STEam and all this stuff still runs. http://atari-music.fddvoron.name/timidi.htm

Boss DR-880 triggering superior Drummer in Bandlab
John Vere replied to Johnny Penk's question in Q&A
First try this, I see it has USB port,You may need to install a driver to get it working https://www.boss.info/ca/support/by_product/dr-880/updates_drivers/0a78c26e-a48a-4807-942d-40caaebb49a2/ Watch my video on this for setting it up. it also has midi outputs, so you can also connect those to your computer using a midi interface or if your audio interface has midi ports. This may require some settings in the 808 to be set correctly for the pads to transmit midi but it should be the default. -
I think performing musicians have become such a small market nobody is making software or hardware for us anymore. It’s all DJ equipment now. Cakewalks focus seems to be on new users who for the most part aren’t musicians. Just gluing loops together with on board audio as the # 1 system used now. The “Recording Studio “ aspect has taken a back seat to “Bedroom Producers “. So I wouldn’t think they would have much time to think much about the handful of us dreaming of a Live Show Cakewalk.

Sorry if I had zoomed in more I would have seen the ASIO in the settings. -
Mono usb playback to soundcraft Signature 22
John Vere replied to Toubab_du_Sinsaloumn's question in Q&A
Question. Are you using the ASIO driver? I have a Signature 10 and even though it’s only stereo audio the ASIO Driver made by Harman ( Korg) shows me the normal Channel 1 left Channel 1 right Channel 1 stereo. That most ASIO interface drivers do. -
I thought I answered this but No you don’t loose it. it’s on the cloud forever that’s how everything works. 10 year later if you don’t forget your login and password you can still open it.

Wow and I thought my set up was complicated. Good job on that. I have played using backing tracks since the early 80’s Bars stopped hiring bands and were only hiring singles and duo’s. First the drum machines then the Atari driving midi. I miss the midi control of all my gear I had back then. Every song on the Atari pulled up the lyrics, set my Alesis Reverb, messed with the Yorkville lights and played live our Roland MT 32 , Juno, 505 , Yamaha FB01 and a Korg Poly 800. A local Jeff Kofftinoff wrote the Software we used called Performer, and we together made a foot switch out of a joy stick. Most important button was the Panic button to clear stuck notes. Later as a single it was too much gear to hook up and I went with mastering the backing tracks in stereo to Sony Mini Disks. Sounded great but I lost the foot switch, midi control of stuff and no lyrics. Since around 2004 I have used a laptop running WinAmp and a USB foot switch. I tried the playlist getting all excited about regaining midi control but it had 2 major faults for me. It was too slow between songs and I need flexibility of song order on the fly. The slowness was probably due to the vintage of the laptop at the time . But flexibility is important to me as I’ve always worked with very loose set lists Win amp allows me to look out at a crowd and go, oh oh. Lots of Grey hair, better start wit Elvis and Buddy. And quickly drag a few songs around. I guess the solution in Playlist is create a LOT of different sets. thanks for sharing your set up I enjoyed reading that.

Obviously on a cell phone and the actual band lab app. Your stuff will stay stored on the cloud you probably won’t be able to access it with out the app.

Well It looks like Mr Grigorowitsch has wandered off leaving a trail of none responding threads behind so you boys can relax. Funny thing is in this thread below they say right away they are using WASAPI mode. And Once again we obviously have a language and terminology issue. It would be cool to have volume that does go too fast.

Cakewalk - Enabled a weird option that drives me crazy
John Vere replied to Storm Productions Music's question in Q&A
I really don’t know what you’re referring to because I don’t know what you have done. It seems you’re trying to do things in an unorthodox manner. As I said normally you put audio effects in the effects bin which can be turned on and off. Or you use a send to an effect buss. Or you use the pro channel which also can be turned on and off I am not familiar with an effect feature or was I aware there is such a feature as VST editing mode? Ya, you can change VST effect settings using the GUI,> So somehow I have a feeling your question is hard to answer because you are possibly using an incorrect term for what your trying to do. Possibly you have just toggled a keyboard shortcut that opened the envelope editing tool. Usually using Undo will fix stuff. If not re start the project. Your screen shot is of too small a section of the track to know what else could be happening. All I see is a envelope in the second shot. There are lots of different envelopes the blue colour would tell me what it is if I go and look, but it's possibly an effects automation? Is this your mystery VST editing mode? Just delete it in the envelope lane -
Cakewalk - Enabled a weird option that drives me crazy
John Vere replied to Storm Productions Music's question in Q&A
So I’m seeing a stereo track because you probably have used the rendering to apply the effects. That’s not a great idea because it is destructive editing Put the effects in the effects bin. Or create a effects buss and the all your vocal tracks can share the same set up I cover this in this video -

Those are volume envelopes. Not at my computer so can’t give details. But here’s a good way to learn what icons are for. Open the help module and point the mouse at a icon or widget. The help module will tell you what it does The term VST is used for both audio effects and soft synth instruments. What are you trying to use? If that track is vocals it should be a mono track as well. -
Seems you were already told not to use asio4all and use WASAPI follow this video for correct audio settings

Harmonisation (either manually or VST)
John Vere replied to Mark Baker's topic in Instruments & Effects
It’s actually very easy in Melodyne I do this a lot For live best to buy a pedal. I’ve not tried it but I think my TC Voice Live pedal can create 4 parts.
