Sample rate/Buffer disparity?
John Vere replied to Richard Schweitzer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The box you show in Preferences will set that as the sample rate for new projects. If there is no audio in a project you can change your sample rate in your audio interfaces control panel. You are using on board audio and this is another of the pitfalls of this. Windows will change sample rate depending on what apps you are using. You might have opened a You Tube, which are 48hz, and then opened Cakewalk. Therefore a new project set at 48. Just a guess on that but you can set windows defualt in Audio settings as shown in this first video. 1-Audio Set up https://youtu.be/JM8rKHQ9GIo In this video I demonstrate how to change the sample rate of a project with Audio in it. 104-Changing Sample Rate of Project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVBNf-jyuzI Any audio you recorded will be at the sample rate displayed in the Transport. -
Another none destructive method would be to export the track using “ track “ and make sure the effects box is checked. Then drag it back to the project in a new track. That will be like a bounce and the effects will be mixed with the vocal. Mute the original. But that said most computers can handle effects with out issue. You just need to increase your buffer until the crackles stop. That should be no more than at 512. If it still crackles then personally I’d not use that effect. Waves plug ins seem to be an issue in Cakewalk

The Mike gets the OK from reviews with warnings of like Mark said about sound quality. It's a good starting point, better than other options. But the Audio interface is going to be a waste of time as far as seeking professional results. That's a Podcasting set up. Number 1 it does not come with quality pre amps, and number 2 it does not use ASIO drivers which are paramount to acheiving professional recording quality of Audio on a DAW. At least invest in a Focurite Solo. That's about as cheap as you can go and get good results. The mike will perform better with better pre amps involved. I have a whole series of Tutorials if your interested in learning how Cakewalk is works. They go in sequence.

Open the project in Safe Mode and get rid of any 32 plug ins. That looks like an issue with using obsolet 32 bit plug ins.

How to Slow Down Backing Tracks for Practice and Avoid Dropouts
John Vere replied to Jamie Rosen's question in Q&A
Well 10% change in tempo should work. Just last week I did this to a project. I have developed arthritis in my right hand so it hurts to hold a pick. ? I went from 95 BPM to 85 BPM and recorded the lead part . The project was mostly midi but there was 2 Rhythm Guitar parts as audio and a scratch vocal. It didn’t work the first time because the Guitar parts were edited so I exported them and the vocals as stems @ 48/32 and brought them back in and applied audio snap clip follows project. Set BPM to 85. No problem. I recorded the lead and reset the project to 95 BPM. No artifacts I can hear. I wonder if you export those tracks like I did? What do they show as when you look at them in Project/ Audio Files ? The other thing comes to mind is buffer settings. I run at 256 on a Motu M4. -
How to Slow Down Backing Tracks for Practice and Avoid Dropouts
John Vere replied to Jamie Rosen's question in Q&A
You can most certainly do what you are doing with out issues but a few things to think about. 1- Make sure the audio clip is set to Musical time in the clip properties of the inspector 2- Don’t overdue it. It can only take so much of a change or it will barf. 3. Find a midi file of the backing track and you can slow that down to zero. 4. Cakewalk is a multi track Audio recording DAW. It is not a DJ software app those are designed to do what you want. -
The only reason I can think of that CbB would not “seem “ to run as well as X3 is user error. I have X3 still installed just to have the stuff that was included. I just opened it after reading this and very quickly saw that I could never go back.

Yes good song but it's very boomy. Open the Gloss EQ on your master bus using the fly out or use Span to see whats going on down there.

EZkeys, Can I make one-beat chords, and...
John Vere replied to Jim Jensen's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This is a forum for Cakewalk. Logic has a forum https://www.logicprohelp.com/ and so does Ez Keys https://www.toontrack.com/forums/forum/ezkeys-line/ezkeys-help/ That was funny as I opened the forum page to grab the web address I see you already posted there. So why are you asking here? We could tell you how this is easy to do in Cakewalk but that's not going to work in Logic.- 1 reply

I have a few USB foot pedals that are fully programable with any one or combination of keyboard and even mouse clicks. You set them in record and make your moves and it saves this and assigns to one of the pedals. They are used initially by people who transcribe recordings to text so they can keep their fingers on the keyboard. They are also used by machine operators and musicians like me for live performance Just Google USB foot switch. They range from $15 to $300. I have both. The one I like the most and use for live performance control of my backing tracks is called Stealth. https://stealthswitch3.com/ I use one of the cheap ones from Amazon to control Cakewalk. I have it set for R, W. and space bar.

Sonar 8.5 Producer: Cakewalk TTS Loses Connection
John Vere replied to Annabelle's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
My all time highest recommended and that I have used on 100's of songs is the Air DB 33. https://www.pluginboutique.com/meta_product/1-Instruments/64-Virtual-Instrument/2507-DB-33-Crossgrade It works just like the real deal including the Cabinet and mike placement. And you can customize the speed responce of the rotarys. Miles above the rest I tried. And I got it almost for free as part of a package deal Air used to offer. I think I paid $80 for their whole collection of VST instruments and effects. But I see it's $70 from Plug in Boutique at this time. My second favourite I just got free with a seven dollar purchase from Plug in Boutique is included with the Arturia Analog Lab. https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/7149 I would actually have gladly paid the full price for this one I can't beleieve I got it free. Every instrument in it is amazing. And so easy to use. For free there's the humble little Colla B https://plugins4free.com/plugin/3117/ It's very good sounding and has full control of the draw bars. My only gripe is the rotary is very limited and a bit sluggish. SImple installation too. There's also this one AZR-3 but the sampling seems kinda bady done. it's free. https://plugins4free.com/plugin/277/ I wouldn't waste time with any of those old Roland sounds. And Roland actually wants a lot of money for them on some sort of cloud thing. Naw, lots of good stuff is free with no strings attached. Try the Colla B first. It might be all you need. -

And to answer your question about replacing it with another instrument It depends on what instruments you require. The TTS-1 is best used as a way to play General Midi files. Most of us find it a bit dull sounding compared to sample based instruments. It can be enhanced with better effects but that gets complicated. So let us know what instruments you were looking for and then we can make recommendations about what’s available for free or dirt cheap. There’s nothing in TTS-1 I would use in a song and I have no trouble replacing parts with better sounds from my collection of soft synths. And those are 90% free. I don’t think I’ve paid more than 20 dollars for a synth. -

Open the TTS1 User interface And make sure that the instrument track it is in is fully expanded so all the dialogue boxes show. Then take a screenshot But it does sound like input echo is off. Can you click on the little buttons at the bottom of each channel in the user interface to test it is making sound? -
It not might just be how you recorded it it might be too much effects.
-
Yes it was that garbage can sound or possibly you used a doubling. I’m not a fan of doubling. Try a basic hall reverb and then I like using a tiny bit of delay set to host tempo and try 1/4 or 1/2 note with low feedback. Use headphones to mix it in until it’s just there to taste.

Thanks Will. Once again a setting you forget about and it is per project not global, so easy to miss.

I have over 35 original song that started life in my 8 track Tascam Cassette days in the 90's. I have attempted to re record the better ones a few times and never quite get the projects finished. The CWP files can go back as far as 2004. I started a serious attempt again in 2020 as like many of us, there was extra time due to Covid. I've been way to distracted by making tutorials however, and desided I'd had enough of that for now and started opening the project files again and deciding I'm not stopping until they are all done and mastered. At this point I have the majority of my best stuff in the can so to speak, about 14 songs, an album I guess.. I had a lot of them sounding very close back 2 years ago so it's sort of fixing stuff that I didn't like, changing instrumentation to make them fit together, and then re mixing using the better workflow I have come up with. I even made a complete series of tutorials on the re make of this first song. Many of you might have heard the rough version I posted a few months ago while videoing the process of making it. I post all the finished songs on Sound Click and proof them on different systems kicking around the house, mostly my getto blaster and bluetooth headphones on my cell phone. Now it's your turn. I'm open to mix comments big time. So I'll only post one song at a time. Your comments will be hugly appreciated. This is the home stretch for these songs and after this I promise I won't ever touch them again... Oh, well I might redo the vocals when I purchase a new mike later this month. EDIT March 25th Here is the Sound Click page as well with the whole album which I update as I go along https://soundclick.com/JohnVere Here's the latest version of the topic song with the vocals brought up a bit. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14406697

Liked the music but not the vocal processing. Good tune. Good words.
-
Very good could not hear any flaws other than tiny little bitty vocal stuff that you won't hear unless your wearing headphones. Which is another thing awesome stereo spread well done. by far best thing posted today by miles.

Music seems nicely balanced and clear but the vocals are way over processed and I couldn't understand any of the lyrics?

First, ya great song very enjoyable and as other say even with the kinda jerky motion it works. On that topic I have many live recordings from a band I was in and I manage to tighten them up with a little effort. Now it's not clear but I'm assuming your using real drums? If so then what I do is first drag the snare track to the timeline to create a tempo map. I then will use the grid this creates to align things. First move is drum replacer to turn the Kick and snare into Midi. I then quantize to the created tempo map. Lots of option here with drum replacer. I also can take the bass track and drag that to a midi track and replace with Ample P bass lite. It will need some basic editing but once done I can't hear much of a difference and mostly it will sound much tighter. Guitars can be a little sloppy but if there's a glaring error it's easy just to use split and drag the clip to the grid. I just did an entire song where the banjo was all over the map. I more or less cut and dragged 60% of the notes into short clips sometimes using CTRL drag to time stretch them. Anyhow lots of tricks that work without audio snap being involved. I never have much luck with that rabbit hole. But if your having fun and enjoy what you've made that's more important than seeking perfection.

Another place to look is in Device manager and open "show Hidden Devices" There is a 10 device limit that can get messed up by plugging midi devices into different ports etc. I demonstrate in this video at the beginning. https://youtu.be/AcDcCmjPaWg The other thing to keep in mind is I find that devices that came with Midi drivers from the Manufacture don't behave the same as the ones that use generic drivers. I can unplug my Roland Keyboard and plug it back in with Cakewalks running. I cannot do this with my Akai.

I'll never be done with Cakewalk, I still haven't even started on my collection of probably 60 hours of live gigs multitracked. I took a break today from my original songs and made a tutorial. I found one I made that sucked again. Just like my original songs, sometimes just gotta re do it... Autism I guess. I new when I saw the thread title that you were just trying to start a Bapu Thread.
