  1. FYI, you have 30 days to try them out. If you don't like them, there is a no-questions-asked refund, which includes free return shipping. Also, there is a one year warranty for defects within the headphone. One of my two CB-1s had a headband that broke. Honestly I'm not sure which one, it could have been years old, and it could have been my fault, or my cat's fault. (My cat is constantly knocking my cb-1s onto the floor.) No matter, Status sold me a new one for half price. And they couldn't have been easier to deal with. But treat the headband carefully. 😀
  2. The response to this online has been great. Absolute rage. I think a major cause of people being so angry is because of the really tone-deaf video they put out to announce it. Complete lack of awareness of what musicians think about subscriptions. Treating their customer base like dunces happy to hear what this enthusiastic female voice tells us. Somebody should have gotten out, shown their face and explained this. And the video makes no attempt to make it clear that Reason+ is just an option. Which is huge. Read the comments to this video. Whew! The worry is that they will devote their attention to all the extras they will create to make Reason+ a worthwhile investment, and hold on to their subscribers. Not to improving Reason itself and providing a reason to update--adding features that their users are begging for, like VST3. When you look at how Composer Cloud is a non-issue for pretty much everybody, you can see that it's just how you communicate things. IMHO a subscription should be presented as an option that has advantages for certain people, not something everybody should be thrilled to accept. According to them we should all think "The world is so much better now!! How did I ever get along in those dark days of buying and owning my software?" And rolling this out during the Pandemic.... wow.
  3. Interesting review. Seeing them as consumer items, which they are. "If you're used to consumer headphones that pump up bass or accentuate vocals, the CB-1s might sound dull." Not bad for us, who are looking for flat. https://www.cnet.com/reviews/status-audio-cb-1-review/ Very interested in what you all think. I really like that these don't have any branding on them at all. To me, that's elegant.
  4. I just found out that Best Service is now selling these. Same price, but you get BestCoin. If I buy, I will buy direct from them, as I'd like them get all the $$. FYI, they say "Purchase Phoenix Scream and get another instrument for free from Three-Body Tech." Two virtual instruments have been created for Suona: Phoenix Scream, with the most commonly used pitch range, and Phoenix Growl, which represents a bass.
  5. These are generally considered the best Chinese virtual instruments available. These are the ones that Chinese composers use, not most of the stuff that we are familiar with. They are best because of the quality and authenticity of the recordings and the amount of control. The truth is that a lot of world libraries are created by people who don't come from the countries where the instruments are played. Unfortunately the only one they previously sold in their English-language is the Yangqin, which I got last Black Friday. I am going to do a video in February comparing all the Yangqins. The NI one comes off surprisingly well, in my book, with some reservations. It is definitely designed for western musicians to use, not for authenticity, but it is decent, and you can't beat the price. I'll be curious to find out who created it. People have jumped through hoops to buy them from Chinese stores. And of course the interfaces were all in Chinese. I wrote Three-Body in December and directed them to a thread on VI:Control about how anxious people were to buy these. And the guy said they would bring all of them out in January. I totally think it was VI:Control that did it. They were very moved by the interest in their stuff. I wish I had more money left, because these are not cheap. Prices are Hulusi $59 ($47) Suona $111 ($139) Xun $63 ($79) Xiao $95 ($119) Dizi $95 ($119) Yangqin $95 $119 Why are the Hulusi and Xun so much cheaper? I think it may be because they come with fewer patterns.
  6. I'm very interested to hear what you think of them. $34 is a pretty great price.
  7. Reason 11 is still available for purchase on their site. https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/reason-11/ As is the upgrade https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/reason-11-upgrade/ I think Suite is over. And there's a big question mark about whether you'll be able to buy Reason 12. Years ago this would have interested me a lot, because I used Reason every day. Now I don't see any "reason" (haha) to use it--I am fine with the instruments and effects I have elsewhere. I upgraded every year from Reason 3 on until they started with the Rack Extensions. That took me off the platform. They always got me excited about the new instruments with the upgrades--I even went to demonstrations here in New York to see them months in advance. And then they offloaded them to the Rack Extensions. And I've never upgraded since. What happened was I discovered the world of things like Kontakt and Falcon and Omni. If Steinberg offered something like this, they'd have my attention. Or Orchestral Tools. Or Spitfire. Any company I am highly invested in. It's interesting that they think they are competitive with East West.
  8. I read good things online about the CB-1 before I bought my pair. Their stuff is cheap because you buy direct from the creator. They sell on Amazon too, but it's not something you'll find in stores. Kind of like Warby Parker or razor blades or underwear. Things don't have to be expensive to be quality. And Sonarworks covers them, so I can get a flat response for mixing. Almost all headphones color the sound one way or another. And from the other side, when I looked to replace my AKGs, I read a lot of funky stuff online, like the ones they were currently selling weren't as good as the ones I had that disintegrated. My AKGs still sound good but they are crumbling away.
  9. Don Bodin told me that when you start to get the negative comments that means you've really made it. 😀 I haven't really had negative comments yet. People who bother to comment are usually nice. Of course this may have something to do with most of them being friends of mine. 😀 My theory about this video is that I said I have little formal training. I believe a lot of people on this forum and other forums I go to have similarly modest training. We make music without years of music school. But not the geniuses at VI:Control. It probably turned them off. But I think it's a mistake to think that I have nothing to teach, because I do have videos coming on stuff like World Music, where I do think I know more than a lot of people on VI:Control. Or at least I have a different take on it. Sigh... Thank you as always for your support and kindness, Simeon.
  10. These list for $120 but are usually discounted. But this is the lowest I've seen. CB-1 https://www.status.co/products/cb1 I have these and love them. I use Sonarworks for my mixing. BT-One Wireless https://www.status.co/products/btone?_ke=eyJrbF9jb21wYW55X2lkIjogImdWTkdOZCIsICJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJyZWlkcm9zZWZlbHRAZ21haWwuY29tIn0%3Da This is a good company that really stands behind their products.
  11. When I put this video up less than a day ago, I had 250 subscribers, and now I have 247. I guess it was worth the two weeks and $$$ I spent making it. 😡
  12. In my last video I talked about making music with a small group of instruments in different musical ranges. Also, I talked about making your music in a three part structure, with a beginning, middle and end. In this one I take another shot at writing a piece of music with the Sonuscore Vocal Ethnic Phrases library, this time with my attempt at Gypsy Jazz. Unfortunately it turned out to be Klezmer music. You can't always get what you want. But at least I finished it! I still didn't mix it though. On to the next video... PS a lot more in focus this week. New lens! New lights! And you thought music software was a money pit. 🥵
  13. I'm probably out from every using this to the greatest extent as is because I don't plan to buy BBCSO Core. And I don't have friends like Simeon does! My wife gave me a hoodie for Chanukah, even though I was hoping she would surprise me with a coupon for CInematic Studio Woodwinds. 😳 My next video (after the one that should be up later today) is on "one-person orchestras," but my focus is on Indiginus's Solid State Symphony/Amadeus Symphony patch and the multis in various ProjectSAM libraries (Symphobia 1&2, Swing!, Swing More!) These libraries don't work with stacks of arp patterns like The Orchestra or this, but are very simple and focused on the player's control of various parts of an orchestral sound. In particular, the ProjectSAM libraries trigger different instruments via velocity layers, years before Spitfire invented the concept with British Drama Toolkit. But I am very curious about this, as I admire John so much, and I love The Orchestra so much.
  14. @Simeon Amburgey Beautifully done! Do you have the BBCSO Core Library or the free one?
  15. Whenever I have an issue with IK, I contact Customer Service or @Peter - IK Multimedia or the IK forum, and I've always gotten my issues sorted out. People complain a lot about Steinberg customer service. I call them and somebody gets on the phone right away and solves my problem. Native Instruments is slow to respond. You have to go through their forum system, but eventually somebody gets back to me and they have always solved my problems. Maybe my case is unusual, but I have eventually had 100% help from all companies with one exception-- Cakewalk. When I bought the lifetime Sonar deal, I had issues with installation., l emailed them three times and never heard back. As basic a thing as installation. I was just getting back into music in 2016. Now I realize they were in the process of being Gibsoned out. Nobody was home. However, sometimes it has been faster for me to post something on VI:Control, where I've gotten immediate answers.
  16. Anybody know how long the "Deep Loyalty" deal will be in place? EDIT: Found out. Until Jan 31st.
  17. But the Humble Bundle deal is still on until the end of the month. https://www.humblebundle.com/software/music-producer-2-software?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_3 $20 gets you all three Session instruments, Objeq Delay ($69 in the current AAS 50% off sale) and five $19 expansions.
  18. Maybe it helps if you have bought a lot. I own practically everything they sell. I usually wait until there's three that I want and then send an email. The guy is very nice about it. You have nothing to lose by asking.
  19. Seeing as how you can trade dupes in for new ones, this is another amazing deal. Even getting just two of them for a dollar is pretty good. I already have enough dupes to keep me going for years though.
  20. My friend Tatiana Gordeeva made a really cool western story for her Soundiron demo. She used the shakers as rattlers and insects.
  21. Maybe some people do see this as an insult, because of the clickbait headline. I hope I don't come off as some kind of know-it-all. As I said, I have a very large folder of unfinished projects. The worst one lately is that I spent over a month doing an orchestration of "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" with Jade Ethnic Orchestra. And I finished the damned thing. I am happy with my performances, but it sounds like crap because I can't mix it. So I'm thinking if I had just started with a simpler orchestration, maybe I wouldn't be in the mess I am in and I wouldn't have wasted all that time? This is just a record of me trying to figure things out...
  22. This has four thumbs down already. I don't think I've had one thumbs down on any of my videos. Somebody also unsubscribed. So there is definitely something in the message of this video that people don't like. That's interesting. I wonder what it is.
  23. In the original video idea, I did two versions of her song: one with the obvious Middle Eastern arrangement and another with a jazzy arrangement. With different accompaniment, she sounds completely different. But it got way too long. Maybe I'll do it in a future video. In retrospect this probably should have been two videos: one on orchestrating with a small palette of instruments and one on using a three-act structure.
