  1. Yes, I am using a controller, actually two different ones, the same as always, however. And today I did some recording a new song and did not see any of the extraneous controller data, so maybe it was unique to this one project, and I may double check all my plug-ins on that one, but I generally use mostly the same stuff over and over, a lot of Kontakt VST's, some live recording of vocals, but at least it's not happening since I deleted the excess data and finished a project, plus recorded a new one. Thanks for all who had suggestions, too.
  2. Cakewalk user since 1993. This is a new one for me. Past couple of days I noticed my clips contained vertical lines that I determined (via event viewer) were either CC 24 or CC25, which to my knowledge are unassigned to any function. I have selected them by filter and deleted, but I'm wondering why this is happening now, and also how my clips suddenly started showing this, as I haven't seen a setting for this and never had this happen before. It's not causing any other problems, but it is annoying and I'm pretty sure it's something I can fix, if only I knew how. I have the latest version (not the new release candidate), and I am thinking of upgrading to the early release and see if that fixes it. Any suggestions or knowledge about this? Thanks.
  3. OK, I'm not exactly sure what I did to fix it, but I have fixed it, as of this moment, all of my USB midi-connected keyboards are working properly again. Thanks for the suggestions, perhaps removing and adding the roland keyboard did the trick, or something I did in Studio One had a positive impact on CbB, but whatever it is, right now we are back in business. Case closed until further notice 😀

Thanks, I've done that, too, it's odd, because nothing has changed, and the keyboard works perfectly within another DAW, so I don't know what, if anything has changed with the latest CbB update...but I haven't found even one setting that is out of kilter or unusual. It will get resolved evenutally, maybe something really obvious I'm missing.
  5. Thanks, Bob, I think I may have tried this to no avail, but will do so again. I didn't move the USB port on the computer (I can barely get to the back of my gigantic DAW workstation), and also I'm not having the problem in Studio One, but perhaps it is a mapping issue with Cakewalk, and so we'll see. I started a new project in Studio One and there are no issues, but I work faster and more familiarly in Cakewalk, so getting this resolved would be a huge plus, as I only recently moved this Roland keyboard back in my studio (it was in my house) and want to use it primarily as a controller in Cakewalk. If I solve this I will report back. Thanks again.
  6. I am a long time Cakewalk user, and I have several MIDI keyboards connected to my DAW computer via USB. I recently reconnected an older keyboard, my Roland RD300 GX, and for some reason, it doesn't seem to be transmitting any audio/midi, while my two other connected keyboards are fine. As an experiment, I opened up another DAW (Studio One) and added the Roland Keyboard, and it works fine. So it doesn't appear to be an issue with the hardware, but specifically my Cakewalk software, which is up to date and otherwise running normally. I have checked all preferences and don't see anything in there that would prevent the MIDI from being transmitted/received and generating audio from my loaded virtual instruments, but the keyboard is not working as a controller at all. I can play it fine via it's audio ports (local control)... I'm interested in any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue, as I prefer to use Cakewalk over Studio One in everyday use Thanks.

  11. Posted on this without seeing this thread. I bit on it for $99, forgetting that once upon a time I upgraded for $69, but still seemed worth it to me to have the latest version, given that the "regular" price showing up in my account prior to this was $299, which was never gonna happen. Once I do the actual upgrade I'm hoping to see some significant improvements.

  18. Spacedesk is an interesting idea, I once used Air Parrot in my former (non-music) career. It might do the trick, at least for remote operation in studio.
  19. Thanks for the feedback, I didn't see some of the ones mentioned in the app store, but I'll look again. I like the Behringer XTouch, but I want wireless control, if I'm sitting at my computer it's less of a need (helpful but not essential). I have a new machine w WIndows 10 so I'm guessiung the NanoKontrol Studio would be a nice compromise, even though it doesn't have touch sensitive, motorized faders, etc.
  20. Looking for a control surface, but I'd like it to be mobile rather than fixed and wired. Korg NanoKontrol Studio has bluetooth connection and looks small enough to walk around my studio and use. StudioLogic has an XL Mixface, but it mentioned a a bunch of compatible Daw's that are NOT Cakewalk. Although I also own Studio One Pro, I'm not comfortable using it for stuff other than mastering right now, and still prefer Cakewalk to all other DAW's I've tried. I think there is a DAW app for the iPad I might be able to use, but the available apps seem to have shrunk in recent years. What are you folks using, and is it possible to configure a device that doesn't mention Cakewalk compatibility (I know Mackie mode is usually good, but not all control surfaces mention this capability). Thanks.
  21. OK, now I'm really intrigued. My biggest headache with SD3 (mostly my own ignorance of drums) is getting that exact sound without endless experimentation, EQ, and other nuanced controls. This looks like a great, straightforward approach to shaping the sound, whether in advance, after the fact, or during playback. Starting to think maybe it's worth $150 after all. I do like Modo bass a lot...
  22. I now use a Presonus Quantum audio interface. In Cakewalk's preferences, In the Audio (Devices) section, I'm wondering why it shows only the odd-numbered inputs and outputs. And in Driver Settings, the PLayback Timing Master shows as Quantum Asio driver Main Out Left. It's obvious that each pair is working and in stereo, and nothing is out of the ordinary as far as recording or playback. Also, if I create and audio track, I can assign it to (for example) Left Quantum Mic/Line in 3 or Right Mic/Line in 3, which should correspond to inputs 3 and 4 of my Quantum. My question is, why this numbering scheme, shouldn't each numbered input/output be labeled as such? Is there a setting that allows for this, or does it simply not matter? PS, I've been using Cakewalk since the 90's, and I also noticed this issue with my old MOTU Ultralite when it came to assigning inputs, but the Playback Master was listed as MOTU outputs 1 and 2, not just 1 or Left. Thanks, all.

  24. I am intrigued. As a dedicated SD3 user, it would have to be very good to compete with SD3. I am, however, an enthusiastic user of the Modo Bass, which I got at a great promo price in the early days of it's launch. I also have other physically modeled instruments I love, such as Pianoteq and AAS Lounge Lizard, for examples. Physically modeled virtual instruments have a couple of advantages over sampled VST's. One is the smaller footprint and faster load times. The other, more importantly, is that a physical model simulates real world playing better than samples. A recorded sample is just that, a recording that cannot be altered, just processed. However, a physically modeled instrument can predict variations in performance on the fly and provide greater variety of articulations, in that a human being will never hit the keys/drums/cymbals/guitar/bass strings the same each time, and will vary the articulation either purposefully or randomly. Samples w round-robin are great, too, but still limited; and I believe (not absolutely sure of this) that the variations are virtually limitless in a physically modeled instrument. Mathematics algorithms are used to produce the variations (if your arm is getting fatigued you might hit the strings with less force or at a different angle, for example). It sounds crazy, but I believe it is the future of VST's. I will always use and enjoy both types of virtual instruments, but MODO bass convinced me that IK can do the job well enough to risk the expenditure (it would be $150 for me as a MODO bass user). Still mulling it over, and don't know when the actual release is scheduled, but I'm inclined to give this a whirl.
