  1. OK... This has bothered me before but starting off on a new machine I'm hoping I can learn to manage this before it becomes an issue... If I want to remove plugins from my list, do I simply remove the dll's (store for safety) and re-run vst scanner set to re-scan all? <sheesh>.... I hate re-scanning things already working.... I'd be ok except for one slip (so far) with BlueTunes... Somehow when I installed them, it also installed a load (more than twice as many as I own) of demo versions of their other plugins.... That's all I'm really trying to get out of vst library/list... Any info would be appreciated... Thanks...
  2. Interesting... Easy to use, but so far I haven't found any impulses to my interest... The provided link to the IR library is appreciated, but I found it difficult to navigate and ever be certain of which I was listening to.... and none that I did listen to were useful for me... Far too much rrom sound in almost every impulse to allow for my practical use....
  3. Yes, they did re-cant and brought in a more reasonable policy. I agree. I give them credit for the yield, but realize they had to be "hit over the head" to make that happen. I’m referring to the way they handle the edges if this stuff. They clobbered many old users without warning with the way waves central auto-updated on machines that the new version doesn’t work completely and disabled the old versions. Now they’re willing to re-authorize these old versions if we dance through a number of procedures that are difficult, additional cost in both tech and finance. I can’t do it so I’m forced to abandon those plugins on that machine though I paid for them.
  4. That's OK... I would prefer a new "no game" version for a change...
  5. I remember when Ultrafunk was around. That was back in the 32bit days. After Cakewalk owned them they were brought up to 64bit but only dx.
  6. I’m glad fir you and I’m sure there are some others, but you must’ve noticed the huge upsurge of information regarding issues with them. I enjoy the plugins, and the prices have always been reasonable, but if any issues arise they seem to be very difficult to deal with.
  7. Excellent... except I always have trouble with such subjective words such as good/bad, weak/strong, hard/soft etc.
  8. Probably longer... Nasty place!
  9. Try talking with them. They are rude, obstinate and cold. I’ve had better relationships with other companies... They had to be "forced" into doing this and the rules/methods of their operation are lacking in humanity.
  10. All I can say is.... Ai, yai ai, yai ai, yai, ai!
  11. Thanks... I was pretty sure NAS is too slow as well. I’m desperately trying to solve the hard drive dilemma of this Mac Trashcan. A single 1TB internal drive dual partitioned for mac/win... Only connections on it are Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3... I currently have 2 SSDs connected via usb3. One dedicated to audio and the other to sample libraries. I originally believed the TB2 pirts at 20GB/s would suffice but I’ve since learned that the 20GB/s only yields about 5GB/s for drive throughput. Extremely disheartening as well as misleading making it only as fast (approx) as the usb3... It's working just fine but a couple of days back i noticed the system doing some chugging on a full project with near 24 tracks of assorted plugins when I unfroze and edited some Superior Drummer tracks... The machine is maxed out from apple with a 12core Xeon and 128GB RAM with dual 37” Apple cinema 4k monitors... Win10 bound... ...almost forgot. Network is 1G
  12. Yeah... It was a valiant Microsoft vs Steinberg war and of course, the "little guy" won!
  13. Hi Gang... A thought just occurred to me and though it's a long shot, I'd like to ask... If I have network attached storage (via ethernet wired) might it be faster than an external usb3 SSD? Apple! What were you thinking??? <sigh>
  14. Well... they mostly remain innocuous to me. They usually seem to reset all the time for me... Well, most of the time...
  15. Yeah... I’ve never been happy with 4. Certainly not the CS version I must use. I used 5 yesterday with minimal annoyance of opening speed and such. Maybe if I could afford a more modern interface it may have faster driver speed and lowered latency? That would take the sting out of 5... BTW I do like the results of my yesterday’s work...
  16. Yup... They’ve burnt me for the last time too. They would have to make some major business model changes to get me to trust them again.
  17. Yeah... you’re stronger than I... in earlier times I avoided all such companies who placed so much security as to make me feel wronged. But as so many followed suit, I yielded to iLok. Lucky for me (us) is that it’s finally evolved to be relatively unobtrusive and easy to work with. A single dongle (or software only for many) handles countless companies and plugins. Well, it does have a limit. Some companies such as Steinberg have more screens and simultaneous operations being authorized on multiple machines drove me crazy and I dropped them too. Too oppressive for me. OK, but all these things happen at the time of purchase/install. Waves has altered deals already established! Much as if the grocery store suddenly shows up at your door deciding they raised the cost of the food you ate last week and are here to collect! Nasty! My immediate issue may be ok (for me) if I can live with my lovely new machine's hard drive limitations for who knows how many years vs. return of old win8.1 machine which has how much life remaining? ...and they have given me a potential path to get them operational there once again with increased cost and issues and repurpose the new machine to gfx only. That would be sad. If only Lord Apple hadn’t decided the Trashcan should be forced to live with only a single "performance" hard drive! <sigh>
  18. OK... I don't think it was affecting audio, but it looked strange and took a bit of experimentation to clear up. Any Ideas what was going on? I'd love to hear! Song project nearing completion... 1 lead vocal track and 4 harmony tracks... All tracks handled essentially the same. pc76/FX Chain Containing Puigchild 660/quadEQ/channel emulator two sends. One To Room another to Hall Both using Breverb on sub groups. For some reason I suddenly notice the PC LED light are staying red even when song not in play. I tried all kinds of things to locate the source but found none. Finally after much random attempts to discover anything about this, I found that after numerous passes of enabling/disabling each plugin and the PC itself in different sequences seems to have returned the system to normal operation. While they were stuck red they would stay that way, then respond as expected when audio actually passed through, then returned to red when audio disappeared? Weird!
  19. Ah, Thanks... Yes. I see that. I was just getting another wonderful senior (lack of) memory moment... I understand... I wonder where they came from? I've had them for sooo long.
  20. I'm not sure I understand. If not a wrapper, what is dxshell doing to present the dx plugins as vst?
  21. Totally understandable... I've had so many issues over the years that with these latest, I doubt I will be buying more, but I do want/need my purchases to continue to work. At the moment I'm trying to let go of their operation on my old DAW though I'm less than thrilled with the hard drive situation on the mac trashcan, but I guess there never really is any going back... <sigh> ...ranking right up there with Adobe. A company who makes great products but horrible business model (for most users). I'm still using Photoshop 7 because it's LOCAL!! ...but I won't dribble on about them.
  22. Interesting. I hadn’t heard this. I’ll have to try it. I’ve stayed away from both 4&5 still preferring 3, but now I can’t get 3 running on new DAW (another authorization issue) so I’m on the fence using 4 or 5... Mostly 4 due to the resource hit of 5...
  23. Thanks Mark... I somehow remember this coming from the team somehow. I'm trying to remember but... Tho I have some other DAWs, I don’t really use them so I’d have no need for both, but there they are on old DAW. (And now on new DAW). I’m just glad I solved the reason/problem why sometimes my Sonitus plugins failed to load...
  24. Thanks, but I was referring to back in the Sonar days. 1st were 32bit dx then 64bit dx which is what comes with Cake by Band.... ...but back in those days we suddenly had them as vst as well! Turns out they’re still dx, but in a wrapper called dxshell. No difference in the plugin itself just how it’s presented to the system. The only reason it matters to me is over the years I’ve used both and opening a project where the plugin is missing doesn’t tell me the settings so I must degise new in such a case. Maybe good, maybe bad, but time taking. Now with both installed, they all open correctly regardless which I use...
