  1. Try talking with them. They are rude, obstinate and cold. I’ve had better relationships with other companies... They had to be "forced" into doing this and the rules/methods of their operation are lacking in humanity.
  2. All I can say is.... Ai, yai ai, yai ai, yai, ai!
  3. Thanks... I was pretty sure NAS is too slow as well. I’m desperately trying to solve the hard drive dilemma of this Mac Trashcan. A single 1TB internal drive dual partitioned for mac/win... Only connections on it are Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3... I currently have 2 SSDs connected via usb3. One dedicated to audio and the other to sample libraries. I originally believed the TB2 pirts at 20GB/s would suffice but I’ve since learned that the 20GB/s only yields about 5GB/s for drive throughput. Extremely disheartening as well as misleading making it only as fast (approx) as the usb3... It's working just fine but a couple of days back i noticed the system doing some chugging on a full project with near 24 tracks of assorted plugins when I unfroze and edited some Superior Drummer tracks... The machine is maxed out from apple with a 12core Xeon and 128GB RAM with dual 37” Apple cinema 4k monitors... Win10 bound... ...almost forgot. Network is 1G
  4. Yeah... It was a valiant Microsoft vs Steinberg war and of course, the "little guy" won!
  5. Hi Gang... A thought just occurred to me and though it's a long shot, I'd like to ask... If I have network attached storage (via ethernet wired) might it be faster than an external usb3 SSD? Apple! What were you thinking??? <sigh>
  6. Well... they mostly remain innocuous to me. They usually seem to reset all the time for me... Well, most of the time...
  7. Yeah... I’ve never been happy with 4. Certainly not the CS version I must use. I used 5 yesterday with minimal annoyance of opening speed and such. Maybe if I could afford a more modern interface it may have faster driver speed and lowered latency? That would take the sting out of 5... BTW I do like the results of my yesterday’s work...
  8. Yup... They’ve burnt me for the last time too. They would have to make some major business model changes to get me to trust them again.
  9. Yeah... you’re stronger than I... in earlier times I avoided all such companies who placed so much security as to make me feel wronged. But as so many followed suit, I yielded to iLok. Lucky for me (us) is that it’s finally evolved to be relatively unobtrusive and easy to work with. A single dongle (or software only for many) handles countless companies and plugins. Well, it does have a limit. Some companies such as Steinberg have more screens and simultaneous operations being authorized on multiple machines drove me crazy and I dropped them too. Too oppressive for me. OK, but all these things happen at the time of purchase/install. Waves has altered deals already established! Much as if the grocery store suddenly shows up at your door deciding they raised the cost of the food you ate last week and are here to collect! Nasty! My immediate issue may be ok (for me) if I can live with my lovely new machine's hard drive limitations for who knows how many years vs. return of old win8.1 machine which has how much life remaining? ...and they have given me a potential path to get them operational there once again with increased cost and issues and repurpose the new machine to gfx only. That would be sad. If only Lord Apple hadn’t decided the Trashcan should be forced to live with only a single "performance" hard drive! <sigh>
  10. OK... I don't think it was affecting audio, but it looked strange and took a bit of experimentation to clear up. Any Ideas what was going on? I'd love to hear! Song project nearing completion... 1 lead vocal track and 4 harmony tracks... All tracks handled essentially the same. pc76/FX Chain Containing Puigchild 660/quadEQ/channel emulator two sends. One To Room another to Hall Both using Breverb on sub groups. For some reason I suddenly notice the PC LED light are staying red even when song not in play. I tried all kinds of things to locate the source but found none. Finally after much random attempts to discover anything about this, I found that after numerous passes of enabling/disabling each plugin and the PC itself in different sequences seems to have returned the system to normal operation. While they were stuck red they would stay that way, then respond as expected when audio actually passed through, then returned to red when audio disappeared? Weird!
  11. Ah, Thanks... Yes. I see that. I was just getting another wonderful senior (lack of) memory moment... I understand... I wonder where they came from? I've had them for sooo long.
  12. I'm not sure I understand. If not a wrapper, what is dxshell doing to present the dx plugins as vst?
  13. Totally understandable... I've had so many issues over the years that with these latest, I doubt I will be buying more, but I do want/need my purchases to continue to work. At the moment I'm trying to let go of their operation on my old DAW though I'm less than thrilled with the hard drive situation on the mac trashcan, but I guess there never really is any going back... <sigh> ...ranking right up there with Adobe. A company who makes great products but horrible business model (for most users). I'm still using Photoshop 7 because it's LOCAL!! ...but I won't dribble on about them.
  14. Interesting. I hadn’t heard this. I’ll have to try it. I’ve stayed away from both 4&5 still preferring 3, but now I can’t get 3 running on new DAW (another authorization issue) so I’m on the fence using 4 or 5... Mostly 4 due to the resource hit of 5...
  15. Thanks Mark... I somehow remember this coming from the team somehow. I'm trying to remember but... Tho I have some other DAWs, I don’t really use them so I’d have no need for both, but there they are on old DAW. (And now on new DAW). I’m just glad I solved the reason/problem why sometimes my Sonitus plugins failed to load...
  16. Thanks, but I was referring to back in the Sonar days. 1st were 32bit dx then 64bit dx which is what comes with Cake by Band.... ...but back in those days we suddenly had them as vst as well! Turns out they’re still dx, but in a wrapper called dxshell. No difference in the plugin itself just how it’s presented to the system. The only reason it matters to me is over the years I’ve used both and opening a project where the plugin is missing doesn’t tell me the settings so I must degise new in such a case. Maybe good, maybe bad, but time taking. Now with both installed, they all open correctly regardless which I use...
  17. Hi Gang... I will apologize first for my rant tho I will do my best to contain my anger and frustration... WAVES! Yeah, we've all heard about their sudden policy changes and alterations to previous sales terms etc.... I got another... They just miffed me big time (careful use of words here) A few of their plugins got messed up on my old machine (windows8.1) during the debacle. I'm building my new DAW and transferring licenses etc. After atlking with their tech support a week or so back They re-confirmed my permission to have two copies installed as long as not used simultaneously. So I began the process and all is well on the new machine. Everything is installed and working. When I open Waves central I can see the dual activations for all but 2 plugins. My 2 most important. So I went to the old DAW and needed to run Waves Central which of cou rse proceeded to update itself to a program where they don't support it's operation (requires win10 or above) and it disabled my old DAW activations! Now they are willing to allow me dual activations with one being available on the old machine by using a usb stick but I don't have the available port! Not that can be left in the machine. Because this process will require the mem stick in whichever machine I'm suing at the time. Both machines have only 1 port left. So now I must buy a spare usb usb stick to dedicate to this purpose, and a pair of usb splitters (one for each machine) to get my old plugins running agin on the old machine where they were working just fine until Waves decided to change things... I'm so screaming mad! I guess part of the reason is my frustrations with Apple's unbelievably poor decisions in the design of the Mac Trashcan.... I've been trying to solve the hard drive dilemma for weeks now and I'm close. It's working pretty well, but When I try taxing streams from one usb3 external drive with Superior Drummer Samples on another USB external, things start getting shaky... I found if I move the audio to the system drive it "seems" to behave better? What a pain So many hard drive related problems with the trashcan! but I digress... This is about waves! I really enjoy both the Abbey Road Studio 3 plugin and the Puigchild plugin... I use them both all the time... ...but is it worth the shenanigans that the company continues to roll out in their fear of theft attitude? We all worry about being robbed but there's a point beyond which the protection becomes unrealistic... Like posting armed guards to protect a bubble gum jar??? I know I'm not the first but their' stance on upholding previous deals is over the top! Everyone else seems to be fine with simple native methods or even iLok, but Waves (and Steinberg) have the most invasive, complex, and insulting systems to "allow" users to buy and use their' products... I could buy a Tesla easier! (if I had the money) OK... I'll stop... I just went through some kind of eye-piercing pain during the typing of this... I may be giving myself a hemorrhage, so I'd better stop... Again... I apologize...
  18. Thanks Mark... I was surprised that the shells reside in the vstplugins folder but find the dx in the shared plugins folder... I was wondering what else (if anything) is getting a wrapped version created? Did they get picked up because I added the sahred folder to my scan paths?
  19. Ah, but I just discovered and implemented... dxshell.dll and dxishell.dll Found in my old DAW's Cake VSTplugins... Copied to new DAW and vst scanned... Voila! VST Versions now appear! I guess they're only dx plugins in a wrapper as there are only the sonitus plugins in the shared plugins folder.... Magic! I didn't really care if they are vst or dx... They work fine. My problem is with needing to replace the "vst" versions previously used in projects, Too difficult to establish old settings and replace with the dx version... Much easier if it simply loads the way I originally installed it and I believe this solved that issue! Thanks for responding though...
  20. OK... I think I figured out yet another of my little snags of this upgrade. I have the Sonitus DX plugins... They installed somewhere with X1/2/3/plat But I can't seem to locate the VST versions we were finally given. That's why so many of my songs are balking about the Sonitus being missing... Anyone know or remember? Thanks...
  21. The plague of progress... Keeping our old while moving into new... PITA of the"new" ages. I don't know if I'll live long enough but there's gotta be a better way of dealing with this stuff than the current password/registration/authorization processes we strangle on...
  22. OK... This is a new one for me... Almost like a planned time-out from a demo device... I've tried it now with both amplitube (4&5/vst2/3) and TH3... They are both doing the same so I'm guessing it's some cake/win/drive setting that needs attention? Can anyone be of help? <sheesh>... I was planning on recording this guitar solo to finish this song only to find that a normally simple task is suddenly troublesome... Still breaking in this new DAW and discovering.... issues. Thanks,,, Edit: Just discovered it's happening to any plugin when I enable Input Echo (monitoring)... Cake? This is a bit ugly way to start the day... Edit 2: Now discovered it's happening in this one song... If I use a track in an empty/new song file, Echo is stable... I've tried increasing the latency etc, but it seems to make no difference. I've archived all other tracks to remove the load and it continues to happen... Weird! Edit 3: Ha! Now I've discovered it's something on that track! I created a new track on same song and echo works fine... So I'm good to go... Sorry for bothering anyone bu t it's still something strange... I disabled everything on that track and left echo on but it still blinked... New track? Problem gone! <whew> Edit 4: HA ha ha ha ha... Narrowed it down more. Blue Tube plugin un-noticed and active but not authorized. Came with Sonar Platinum so I'm in the process of discovery/re-install in Platinum using CCC and then try getting it working in Cake By Band... Edit 5: Done and all is well once again in the Nomad-ic world... I do still see 2 plugins in their hu ge list that are still in demo but I doubt I've ever even looked let alone used. I almost exclusively use their Blutube collection...
  23. I’m still struggling to finish this win10 on Mac Pro Trashcan. I’ve found two satisfactory external drive devices to suit me but wondering if other than the obvious easy exchange of drives. Is there a speed difference between two such devices claiming the same ports? I got a bay which was not my first choice but it turned out defective anyway and I've discovered they have a drive dock which I tend to lean towards that they will exchange for me. They both claim TB2/USB3,1 connectivity (20GB/s / 5GB/s)... Any thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated as I must decide and return ship the bay within days... They also have a replacement power supply for the bay if I decide to keep it...
  24. So why not default to the best! I use 320! BTW... CD Architect has easy ISRC codes, but only for CDs...

    AAF support

a penny from me? I think it a wise decision to include very popular common set of file specs as to make interchange between any 2 DAWs (eventually) able to invisibly, seamlessly exchange media between systems... An obvious limitation is always the ownership of 3rd party plugins to be common across these systems which is unlikely, but a system of markers containing specs of the original plugins settings... Does any of these file standards do this? I'm sorry, I digress... ...an any case I'm completely in favor of Cakewalk adding AAF support. It can't hurt, only help?
