1. Instascale is even weirder. Like two-finger typing and the machine picks the letters that come out, you can only tell it which direction to go in.
2. I just set up Instachord (which I also bought recently) in Cakewalk and already had it up and running in Studio One. To summarize, and just to test : 1. In a new empty Cakewalk project, Insert -> Soft Synth -> XXX twice, the first is Instachord and the second is the instrument vsti plugin you want to play (it'll make the sounds). For both, on the Insert Soft Synth Options page, check : "Simple Instrument Track" , "Enable MIDI Output" and "Synth Property Page" ) 2. For the Instachord track, set Input to <your MIDI controller> (or the Cakewalk virtual midi keyboard), and Output doesn't matter. 3. For your sound generating instrument vsti track, set Input to "Instachord 1 -> MIDI Omni" and Output to "Master". 4. Make sure Input Echo = ON (blue) for both tracks. Clicking the keyboard outline in the Instachord plugin should now generate sound, as should playing the same notes on you Midi keyboard (or the virutal midi keyboard).
3. That's 39 euros, I believe. Makes it quite expensive in cdn $'s. Still, almost bought it. Tempting.
4. https://www.waves.com/account/metafilter-free?utm_source=sendinblue&utm_campaign=Akai_Fire_Sales_MetaFilter_giveaway&utm_medium=email Says for FL Studio users, but works for everyone. I got it. Thanks to JEPA over on VI-Control.

6. Maybe everyone already has this plugin, but I didn't and was waiting for it to go on sale : https://www.bozdigitallabs.com/product/gatey-watey/
7. I believe this article may be of help. By well known Sonarian David Baer. Tempo – The Last DAW Frontier?
8. Another piece of the puzzle : I installed a virtual desktop app called Dexpot that gives me 4 different desktops that I switch to using ctl + F1-4. Desktop 1 is my usual desktop on my tower PC. Desktop 2 is for when I'm remotely logged from my laptop with its much smaller screen. This desktop only has music playing related icons. Desktop 3 is all the portals (Native Access, etc), user manuals, etc, for installing and maintaining all my music sofware.
9. Well, looks like I was confused during my first attempt regarding usb and midi ports. What must have happened is that I hadn't yet discovered the necessity of having the option in Remote Desktop for audio output to occur on the server for the midi ports to appear, and then went about finding a workaround and ended up sending the midi over lan from my laptop to the tower, which does work. So I tried again and yes, I can have my keyboard plugged into my tower and now my daw sees it just fine through RD. Thanks Scott for inspiring me to try again.
10. How do you get your daw (running on the main computer) to see your usb devices (like a midi/usb keyboard) connected to the main computer when you fire up your daw program after logging in through remote desktop ? After a lot of researching and head scratching, I came to the conclusion that that was a limitation of remote desktop. I'd like to be wrong. EDIT : I've since gotten things to work. See a but further down in this thread.
11. EDIT : I was in error when I wrote this post. I've corrected things further down in this thread... I've just gone through the process of setting up remote desktop so I can use my laptop above my midi keyboard to control things while everything is actually running on my much more powerful tower PC, a few feet away. It was not as straightforward as I had imagined, not by a long shot. The biggest problem is that USB devices on the tower are not accessible/visible through remote desktop, so I couldn't, for instance, plug my midi keyboard into the tower. I had to plug it into the laptop and use midi over LAN to get it to the tower. Midi ports are accessible through remote desktop, buy only if sound is output from the remote machine (my tower). Both machines are connected with an ethernet crossover cable. It is quite possible that I haven't learned all the ins and outs of this kind of setup and there may be an easier way than the one I came up with. There is no latency at all (at least that I can detect with my ears) between my midi keyboard into the laptop and the sound coming out of the tower. I was pleasantly surprised. There might be latency if you're sending audio back to play on your mobile device.
12. Once the order is placed, the redemption process takes you to AAS where everything happens from then on. My AAS account was automatically updated to show the new items.
13. Wow, 8 sound packs I didn't already have (and 4 duplicates/triplicates) for 9.56$. I have all AAS full instruments, so ... Thanks Fleer !
14. That's interesting. The manual says : "Impact’s DAW integration files contain automatic catch-up or soft takeover functions that avoids parameter jumping by delaying parameter updates until a physical control position matches the value of the parameters." So it's a question of this aspect of the integration not working as it's supposed to in Studio One ? I'll have to give Cakewalk another chance. I seem to recall that I might have had a button or two work, but the transport was definitely dead. I've managed to put together a pretty nice setup in which my laptop is positioned right in front of me on the second tier of my keyboard stand and from there I remote desktop into my nearby much more powerful tower PC over a LAN crossover cable. So the daw and instruments run on the tower but I can control everything on the laptop in from of me. Had to use midi over LAN for the keyboard plugged into my laptop because usb ports on the tower don't seem to be accessible when remote desktop is active so I couldn't plug the keyboard into the tower. It was a lot of head scratching but now works very well with no noticeable lag which was a worry. EDIT : I've since learned that in the options for the Remote Desktop connection, audio must be set to output on the server (my tower PC) for the usb/midi ports to become visible/accessible. Which is what I wanted anyway. I can now have my midi controller plugged into the tower.
15. Everyone seems to have a different experience with Nektar LX controllers and Cakewalk. I recently got around to setting up my LX88+ and after doing everything Nektar specifies and checking and rechecking (with MidiOX, etc), the controller part just doesn't work at all, only the keyboard. I gave up and decided to fire up Studio One 4 which I have no experience with just to see (again following Nektar's instructions) and everything seems to work fine, controllers, buttons and all. It's going to be hard not to switch over to S1 because of this.
16. The main BandLab page at bandlab.com doesn't seem to reference the Cakewalk daw in any way. I searched on Cakewalk and clicked on just about everything, but just nothing. No mention of any other 'products' either. If you navigate "Explore" - "Features / Music Creation" you get taken to this simple daw Mix Editor. The philosophy behind this would be ... ?
