  2. OOPS! Knowing that would have saved me some typing. DOH! hee hee (I don't have Massive X, but would have thought they would have begun to publish VST 3 plugins by now - thanks for letting me know. I have had various versions of Komplete for well over a decade now, but have never paid attention to them being VST 2 or VST 3 - I have never looked at any NI instruments for VST 3 functionality, just figured that there were both types of plugins in the newer versions of Komplete). Perhaps it would also be nice to have a picture with arrows pointing out the various target areas for where to position the mouse to get the double-arrow to show up, added to the documentation on moving tracks. I am always in favor of making documentation better, when things can be confusing. Bob Bone
  5. So, in my horrifically poor picture below, I meant to say, try the area under my rather wobbly red parrot-headed circle, this is the area I always use, to get the double-arrow to show up, allowing me to drag a track up or down.
  6. I don't ever expand the tracks vertically like that - drives me nuts. If you start with the tracks in their collapsed vertical state, the area I meant to describe, is just to the right of the Input Echo On button. I had INCORRECTLY said the area was immediately to the right of the track name. SO - please perhaps collapse the tracks, and show the same mouse positioning using the area just to the right of the Input Echo button, and repost. You are much better at putting those animated clips together. Thanks, @scook. And, @Joe Dun, apologies for directing you to the wrong spot to look for that double-arrow, and for not being clear enough in my earlier comments. Bob Bone
  7. Well, my suggestion was just to test whether or not that was the issue preventing the detection of the mouse as positioned in the area that allows for dragging to move that track. I don't happen to have that issue, and literally just a moment ago, started a brand new project with one of the default project templates that comes with Cakewalk, and it happens to have a number of tracks already present as part of the template. Without my expanding that area of the track to see if that made a difference in it detecting that the mouse should be in an area where dragging the track is permissible, as soon as my mouse was positioned just to the right of the box containing the track name, sure enough, the double-arrow appeared, and I was able to drag that track to a different position, above or below where it had been. SO - on my system, the default project template sizing of that track parameter area's width was absolutely wide enough - to start with - where I could drag the track up or down. That would indicate that some other issue is at play, on YOUR system. Perhaps it is a screen resolution thing - or text-size issue, or something like that, which is why I was just curious as to whether or not that made any difference on your system, to help narrow down why it doesn't seem to behave as expected. I was just hoping you would see if slightly expanding that track parameter area, horizontally, would work, and help diagnose what might be at play in it not seeming to work at the default width setting. The track number doesn't seem like it would work for the area to support detection for the 'drag area', because that is already used for performing quick grouping of multiple tracks, and for selection of individual tracks. Once some kind of determination can be made as to what needs to happen for that to start working on your system, then that info can be passed along to the Cakewalk developers, to either tweak something, or perhaps add some additional info to the documentation, or both, etc....   8. By the way, VERY happy you are seeing at least some success moving tracks. You might try dragging the vertical line separating the track info and the track data, to make a little more horizontal room to the right of the track name. That might help it turn the mouse into the double arrow. Bob Bone

  10. Hey - quick question. I have a project with a bus where I had inserted Breverb2 Cakewalk, prior to discovering the Breverb2 module that is part of the ProChannel. SO - I notice that a preset that I had saved in the Breverb2 Cakewalk (from the FX Bin), does not appear in the presets available to the ProChannel's Breverb module. Further, there doesn't seem a way to save presets from settings in the ProChannel's Breverb2 module. It would appear that there are two separate save paths for presets, and that is further complicated by the ones I DO save, in the Breverb2 Cakewalk VST, not being able to be selected if I try to access them in the ProChannel's Breverb2, and lastly, not being able to save presets from settings I like from the ProChannel's Breverb2 is a bit of a pain. Any solutions to the above? Bob Bone
  11. I meant to respond to your much earlier post about moving tracks not working for you. So, I will take a stab at explaining it. Let's say I have a dozen audio tracks, and I want to move a track - track 8, for example, up to sit between tracks 2 and 3 - becoming track 3 because the process moves the old track 8 to the track 3 position, and shifts all the tracks below - down one. (so, old track 3 becomes track 4, old track 4 becomes track 5, and old track 8 becomes the new track 3). SO, to accomplish the above: 1) From the Track Pane, position the mouse just to the right of the track name for track 8 (this example). You should see the mouse turn into a double-arrow, with each point of the arrow pointing up and down, respectively. Please note that this also will work if you position the mouse over the track icon, though the double-arrow won't appear until you begin moving the mouse up or down through the other tracks. (the horizontal line will still appear as you cross track boundaries, to show you the placement point, if you were to release the mouse at that point in its travels through the tracks). 2) Now, drag the track up and you will see a horizontal line appear in between tracks, which is to show you where the track would move to, if you were to release the mouse at that point. This line will disappear and appear again as you cross track boundaries on your way to where you want to move it to. 3) Release the mouse when you have that horizontal line in between the tracks where you want to have it move to, and Ta-Da - it will move there and shift the other tracks below down on (renumbering them in the process). Please also note, that the above only seems to work to move a single track at a time. Perhaps others have some way of moving multiple tracks. Please try the above, and hopefully, that will work for you. Bob Bone

Not sure what is on the development drawing board - if you were not using Sonar (Cakewalk by Bandlab's predecessor), version 8.5.3 was chocked full of all kinds of keyboard shortcuts that required a great deal of remembering and learning - folks that were experienced with it could fly through things, but it made it VERY difficult to get up to speed. SO, way back when, the Sonar developers invested a great deal of time and effort, completely redesigning the user interface of Sonar, beginning with Sonar X1, then more was done for Sonar X2, then Sonar X3, and its culmination at Sonar Platinum. Each of those versions built on the user interface design, hoping to improve work flow for existing users, while also attracting new users, who could be productive without having to learn the dark arts of the older ways of doing things - from Sonar 8.5.3 The point of the above, is to indicate that the developers take GREAT interest in continuing to improve usability, as well as balancing that with two other factors - those being added functionality/features, and cleaning up bugs. Those balanced factors ARE how they have approached it all, going back to that massive internal change to redesign the UI starting with Sonar X1, and that balancing act is continuing today, and for the foreseeable future. Things that folks would like to see - listed in the Feedback forum, DO get looked at, and if enough interest is shown, and I am sure additional factors considered, some of those ideas DO end up incorporated into the product. So - even if things take a while, it is helpful to post the ideas for new or improved functionality in the Feedback forum. Bob Bone

My comment was meant to clarify the 2nd part of the above question you had raised, in that using the Replace from Track Template section of the documentation can do exactly that - changing the settings of an existing track, to point to a new bus that is brought in by that template, and set up the send from the track to the bus. Wasn't sure if you were aware of that. I do need to point out that if using the Replace From Track Template, the track's name will be changed to that of what it is called in the Track Template, and the gain level will be modified as well, to the level as contained in the track setting from the Track Template, so if using Replace From Track Template, there will almost certainly be things to be aware of, because they will be changed, which could cause problems if not aware of that happening. I am not sure if I would ever use the Replace From Track Template option, but I do use Track Templates all the time, to bring in various tracks and buses, and soft synths, and all that...... Glad you have some motivation to explore Track Templates, and hope you find them to be as useful as I have found them. Bob Bone
  14. There is also pretty thorough documentation, and tutorials, and lots and lots of YouTube videos that cover just about everything from basics to advanced explanations of doing things. I am not trying to be a wise guy with the above - I am just saying there are accessible ways of learning how to accomplish things, like working with midi, and performing audio exports - most of the dialog box windows that open up for functionality like the export audio options, have context-sensitive help available, just by hitting F1 once the dialog box opens, and there often additional links presented in the help info to take you to additional explanations of things that are related. There are also lots of folks in the forums, that will try to help answer questions about things folks may be struggling with, so if you have specific questions, folks are generally quite good about trying to help explain things to those that are struggling with particular functions. One of the options in the documentation I posted the link for, is to replace an existing track's settings, from a track template, where the track template brings its associated additional items with it, like a bus and effects and sends and whatnot, while replacing the existing track's settings, but leaving its clips and such in place.   16. Just providing info on what is available, since it is not directly an option from the bus pane. What is in place meets my needs wonderfully. Inserting a bus is 2 mouse clicks and a rename, so that doesn't slow me down. Particularly since most of what I am doing already comes in with one or more track templates, as needed. If having the ability to insert a bus template is of value - perhaps a post asking for it in the Feedback forum would help the development folks see and consider it. Bob Bone

  18. @User 905133 if you have sends on tracks or buses, and those buses are connected to a track that is selected when doing the Export as a Track Template, then all selected tracks, and their associated buses, and any other buses that are fed by the buses connected to the selected tracks, AND their sends, and the effects loaded onto selected tracks or on buses that are connected to tracks or connected to other buses that are connected to selected tracks, all of that will all be saved in the Export as a Track Template process. I have all kinds of buses and tracks and effects and synths and levels and sends and all of that, as part of track templates. Bob Bone

Thanks for clarifying about existing projects, and about not having just a bus template - yes - the earlier described use of track templates can bring in one or more audio tracks, any associated soft synths and midi tracks, any track loaded effects, any associated buses, and any bus effects. I use track templates all the time, particularly for drum kits, as I route each kit piece to its own output channel, and to separate audio tracks, then the audio tracks are routed to various buses (toms, kick, snare, cymbals, parallel compression, reverb, etc...), and all of that comes in with just a couple of mouse clicks - even the levels are already preset to appropriate levels. I LOVE track templates. I do use my own project templates, but mostly those don't have a lot in them, most of the heavy lifting gets done with the track templates. One of the most powerful features for getting a GIANT list of things done with just a few mouse clicks. Bob Bone
  20. You could get whatever buses you typically use inserted into an empty project, and then save the project as a Project Template, rather than as a Track Template. I am a little confused by your statement that you can insert buses but not directly. I do not know what that means. I just did exactly what I suggested above, and it worked just fine. Here again, are the steps: 1) Open a new project, from whatever project template you wish 2) Insert whatever buses you wish, (right-click in the Bus Pane and click on Insert a Stereo Bus), and if you have standard effects you wish to place on that bus, go ahead and do so. 3) Save the new project as a Project Template (*.cwp), into the Project Templates folder, with its type set to Template, and give it a name You should now be able to start new projects using your new Project Template, and whatever buses and effects you had saved will come into your new project.   21. My motherboards have the built-in support for multiple M.2 drives (both NVME and SATA III), but in any, those drives show up like any other drives, under the control of Disk Management. Cloning software - which I believe Samsung supplies on their web site (lots of companies make it), would clone your current boot drive to the new NVME drive, and it would show up in the BIOS, to boot from. By the way - if you are having dropouts playing projects back, it may be because of having plugin effects that are designed for use in the Mixing/Mastering phase of a project, and not meant to be used during tracking (recording). SO - generally, when recording, 1) Avoid loading plugin effects, when recording, that use look-ahead processing or linear phase processing - those kinds of effects are meant for mixing/mastering, and 2) Keep your ASIO Buffer Size down to about 128 samples or less (but not too low), for a reasonable balance between latency and CPU workload, and when MIXING, jack up the ASIO Buffer Size to either 1024 or 2048 samples, and then feel free to load the more resource-hungry effects that use Look-Ahead or linear-phase processing. (Effects that use look-ahead processing include things like convolution reverb effects, and linear-phase type effects often use LP in their names). If your dropouts go away when you temporarily 'Bypass All Effects', by hitting the letter 'E' on your computer keyboard before hitting Play, then that does point to one or more effects causing the dropouts - (look-ahead or linear-phase), and then you can either swap those out until you move on to mixing, and adjust the ASIO Buffer Size way high (1024/2048 samples), OR you can finish recording with the effects bypassed, and then Hit 'E' again when done recording, to toggle the effects back on. You could also turn off any of those kinds of effects while recording, and turn them individually back on when moving on to mixing. Bob Bone

Yes - the M.2 2280 NVME PCIe drives are allowed to transfer data up to the limits of their technology, so these drives an perform reads and writes up to about 3,500 MB a second, versus about 500 MB for regular SATA III drive. The M.2 drives are still solid-state - just not bound by the SATA III transfer protocols, so they are without a doubt, WAY faster than SATA III drives. I happen to use a combination of all 3 kinds of drives, 1) I use an M.2 2280 NVME PCIe drive for my boot drive, AND another one to store sample libraries. 2) I use a couple of SATA III solid-state drives, to store additional sample libraries, and Cakewalk Content. 3) I use SATA III 7,200 rpm HDD's to store Cakewalk Projects folder, and another couple to hold my user library folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Videos, Pictures). My desktop has a whole bunch of main memory, so regardless of the drive type that content comes from, once it is read, it pretty much stays in memory. (I have 128 GB of memory in my main desktop). I could have chosen to store the Cakewalk Projects on a solid-state drive or an M.2 drive, but they load just fine from the nice cheap regular HDD's running at 7,200 rpm. Bob Bone

Hey folks - we are NOT going to get into character bashing in this or any other thread, from or toward anyone, in any direction. @Dare Rihter is currently exploring other software, to see if it better meets his needs - He has expressed some views in his frustration, that I chose to not react to, and things had quieted down, but while I was out getting into a car accident (not a real one - just got rear-ended by the dealership's service techs - went in for a $100 replacement of my car's thermostat, and they handed me a seriously thick write-up of repairs needed that, with tax, came out to $9,100 and some change). Anyways, whilst I was out having fun at the dealership, folks have stirred up some stuff here. Please, EVERYBODY, knock it off - completely. I stand by my offer to assist Dare, if desired, if and when he chooses to circle back to try to work through whatever his current/recent issues with Cakewalk are/were. Even if he chooses not to return, I have sincerely wished him the best of success in his musical travels, and with his musical adventures, because THAT is what all of this, and all of what we do, and how we are, is all about. SOOOOOO - let's all of us chill out, and try to work with each other in a supportive and positive fashion, there is nothing whatsoever to be gained by getting and keeping our individual or group 'hackles' up. It is all going to work out - if we can do that, so let's keep MY weekend on as even a keel as possible, so I don't have to wade into dealing with a bunch of folks getting into it. I know I have way too much stuff to do, that should have been done weeks ago, to want to spend any time having to actually moderate folks and threads. Kewl? (oh, also, I am NOT spending the $9,100 for repairs to my vehicle, which is $100 more than the $9,000 I had paid for it, used, in the 1st place.   25. If you hover your mouse over the left edge of the Buses, you can drag that to the left or right, to make it so that it lines up with the right-most edge of a channel strip. Now, that won't prevent you from having to scroll, should you have a bunch of audio tracks, but you can adjust that Buses group to line up. You can also hide things like the Preview Bus and the Metronome Bus, and you can also pick and choose what tracks and buses to display, using the Track Manager (the letter 'H' is its toggle to display it or not, and it helps keep the number of things displayed down, making the things you are working on able to be made visible.
