  1. Maybe the Cakewalk bashing should be turned down a bit? I wouldn’t be surprised if the introduction of Sonar and Next in due time would also result in a reorganized forum. The Coffe House sub-forum is in no way Cakewalk related. If the core products are constantly being bashed, here and in the Deals forum, the future existence of those sub-forums might be questioned by the owners. Just my two cents.
  2. When comparing the manual for Synth Anthology 3 to that of Synth Anthology 4, SA3 has 132 synths vs 200 for SA4. Also, SA3 has about 3,700 presets, compared to just over 5,000 for SA4. As a result, SA3 requires 15GB of disk space, whereas SA4 requires 21GB. I have SA3 and will keep it. Regardless any potential enhancements and being offered the update for €49, I hate the new four-shades-of-gray UI of SA4.
  3. I think that would be a small price to pay for not having this forum filled with fake 800 phone numbers and spam. After all, newly registered users desperately needing immediate help would still be able to contact Cakewalk tech support directly instead of going through this user forum. Another way would be to severely restrict the number of posts a newly registered user is allowed to post in one day, maybe in combination with also tracking the IP address of user registrations and blocking more than say two or three user registrations from the same IP address in a single day.
  4. When you say channel strip, I guess you mean ProChannel in Cakewalk? If so, as far as I know the last version that worked as a ProChannel module was 2.5.46 from May 2022. Later versions unfortunately seems to crash CbB. Softube has been made aware of the problem and acknowledged there's an issue, but haven't given any estimate if/when this is ever going to be fixed. I guess ProChannel support in CbB isn't on top of Softube's priority list. There is no separate "channel strip file". ProChannel currently only supports VST2. As I understand it all VST2 plugins that supports PC have two interfaces; one "normal" UI and one separate for ProChannel. My solution to the issue in CbB has been to keep the VST2 version of 2.5.46 of Passive-Active Pack. I do the same for Softube FET Compressor v1 which has the same problem. As for the VST3 versions, I'm always using the latest. So if you were to buy Passive-Active Pack and want to run it as a ProChannel module, my advice would be to ask Softube support for an installation file of version 2.5.46, install it, and then keep a copy of that DLL in a safe place as it will be overwritten whenever you run Softube Central.
  5. In the Control Bar, the Event Inspector allows the Period character to be used as divider when manually specifying Time and Duration for MIDI events as a replacement for the Colon character. That’s very efficient, provided you’ve got a Period key on the numeric keypad. However, for those of us using the metric system, there’s usually a Comma key instead of a Period key on the numeric keypad. Unfortunately, a comma is currently not a valid replacement for colon when specifying Time and Duration. So, would it be possible to accept commas in addition to periods in those two input fields?
  6. I just found out that you can optionally drag-and-drop a track icon from File Explorer onto a track to replace the existing icon. Any part of the track will work as destination, so you won't have to drop it on the existing track icon. This action will (almost always) also update the icon in the Track Inspector and the Console View as well, but sometimes you'll have to switch selected track to trigger a repaint of those icons. Fun fact: This drag-and-drop feature is currently not documented in the Online Help, nor in the Reference Guide. Edit: I've later noticed that File Explorer isn't needed. In your Media Browser, it's possible to navigate to your Track Icons folder and drag-and-drop icons directly from there. I've personally saved my Track Icons folder as a Content Location Preset, so it's always easily accessible. The one drawback with using the Browser, instead of File Explorer, is that you can't see the source icon as an icon, only its file name.
  7. Hats off if the Bakers have managed to create a fully scalable, vector-based GUI that looks pretty much like CbB. I remember that Ben Staton in a post three years ago mentioned that a revision of the GUI was about to begin late 2020, so there have definitely been a major code rewrite going on.
  8. Maybe try to wiggle the Transpose Up button on your keyboard upwards in case it’s semi-stuck in a downward position?
  9. If you select Insert Audio FX > Plug-in Layouts, a third menu pops up where you should be able to see a couple of options, including all your own plug-in menu layouts. Just select the one you recently saved. By the looks of it, you have the default option Sort by Category currently selected.
  10. I think that side bar has a positive side effect (no pun intended); it makes each post become less wide which in turn makes it easier to read. The rows are otherwise on the verge of being uncomfortably wide on my WQHD monitor. However, for anyone who desperately wants to get rid of it, and also got AdBlock Plus installed in their web browser, you can always add a custom filter to remove it completely. I did exactly that, but in the end decided to return to the way it was for the reason mentioned above.
  11. I had exactly the same question, so I downloaded and installed the demo of The Hoser XT 2 to see if a Cakewalk ProChannel version was included. However, it didn't turn up after a plugin refresh when I selected Insert Module in the Console View. Not that I need another EQ (in addition to Cakewalk's included QuadCurve EQ I've already got three EQs from Softube that supports ProChannel), but if it does I would buy it anyway for the $10 I was offered. Of course. But for all I know the demo could be crippled, so if anyone knows for sure I would be interested to know as well.
  12. When I looked it up I saw that I bought Frontier four years ago in a bundle from Stack Social, together with ten other AAS sound packs. The whole bundle of eleven cost me a whopping $11.
  13. As an update to my post above, Groove3 actually added a two hour long 26 video Cakewalk by BandLab tutorial in May 2023. I just noticed that it’s currently available to purchase and download for just $10. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I guess the price soon will go back to ordinary price ($25), so anyone interested probably shouldn't wait too long.
  14. Also, the title of this thread is “What’s the best way to ask a question?”. As a general rule, I would say “Nicely”. Grumpy posts are often totally ignored by those who might otherwise give the best answers.
  15. Back in 2012 I decided to once again pick up my dormant interest in music creation. Here’s a bar chart showing the number of purchases I’ve made for the last ten years. It includes DAWs, plugins, Kontakt libraries and synth expansions. I seem to slowly be on the mend, but that's probably more caused by plugin saturation and diminishing interest than by economics. I’ll keep the related bar chart showing the purchase amounts to myself and my bad conscience.
  16. I hope that Invision (the forum software) has some built-in configurable tools to protect from attacks such as these, or that a plugin with such functionality can be added. If all these posts are made by bots, it’s impossible to beat them if they only can be removed manually after the fact. Bots won’t get tired, but janitors, Australian or otherwise, sooner or later will.
  17. I think my first modem topped out at 2.4 Kbit/s. Files larger than a couple of MB I had to download at the office where I worked and then save onto a ridiculous amount of floppies to bring home. Though my internet speed now is slightly better. Here's from five minutes ago:
  18. Last year I got a delivery stolen by the delivery guy. I knew he would be coming between 7 pm and 10 pm one evening, so I kept a close eye on the street. Suddenly in the darkness I noticed a small unmarked white van turning up, stopping at the street corner, maybe twenty-five meters from where I was standing. I went out onto the sidewalk, not sure if that was my delivery, when the van after maybe 30 seconds pulled away and drove passed me. It was pretty dark and the street lamp across the street was broken so he probably didn’t see me waving my arms. I went back inside to my computer and noticed that according to the tracking site the package had been delivered one minute earlier. Yeah, right. Of course, he had only been standing in the street corner registering the fake delivery using the close-enough GPS coordinates. The package contained some short, cheap XLR cables worth maybe €20, but it was ordered from a well-known electronics store. I guess this delivery guy thought that the small parcel might be something pretty valuable, maybe an iPhone or the like by the size and weight of it, and so decided to keep it. I guess he wasn’t very happy when he got home and opened the package. Later that evening I got an email from the delivery company asking how my experience had been. And believe me, I did not hold back. They came back to me the next day and said an investigation were to be performed. Long story short, I got a new pair of XLR cables about a week later. As for the gig worker, the delivery company implied he wouldn’t get any more assignments. That's how it is living in a gig economy.
  19. Please give us the context. Where does it occur, what exactly does the error message say, and, if possible, post a (readable) image. As for images, this forum has a pretty low upper limit for how much data you're allowed to upload, so it's better to use some third-party image storage provider. Personally I always upload any such images to https://imgur.com and then paste the image link into my post.
  20. Actually, the link in the forum menu targets an old version of CbB, and has been for some time. Clicking on the menu link will redirect you to a page with a Cakewalk Installer button which targets the link https://downloads.bandlab.com/cakewalk/setup/CakewalkSetup.exe?d=20220627. Not a good idea, as that seems to be the old June release and not the latest November release. Instead, use the link I mentioned in my previous post. @Morten Saether Maybe the Cakewalk Installer link on the page https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk#download should be updated?
  21. So you’ve got SONAR X3 Studio installed? That’s a great start. As for me, I upgraded to X3 Professional back in 2014 and went on to SONAR Platinum a year later. In 2018 I started using the free Cakewalk by BandLab (CbB). And, of course, that’s what you should do as well. Why? Because a lot has happened in the last ten years. CbB is essentially an enhanced version of the latest Cakewalk SONAR Platinum (which succeeded SONAR X3), but without some of its plugins. However, as you’ve already got SONAR X3 Studio installed, all plugins that came with it will be detected and fully functioning in CbB. So please don’t uninstall X3 as that would uninstall those plugins as well. Simply install CbB alongside X3. But still, why? Because a large number of bug fixes have been made since BandLab took control of the software. Also, a lot of new functions have been added. The posts in this forum deals mainly with CbB. The posts asking questions about SONAR Platinum, X3, X2, X1, or even 8.x and earlier, don’t get much attention. The fact is that hardly anyone have those old versions installed anymore, if they ever had. You’ll find a link to the CbB downloader in the post below. It’s the link at the top that says “full Cakewalk 2022.11 installer.” Oh, and welcome to the forum!
  22. I updated my K10U to K14U, mainly because of the Session Guitarist series, but also Guitar Rig 6, Noire, and Kontakt 7. The Summer of Sound price for this update is €199.50 which (of course) is slightly below this €20 voucher €200 minimum spend, so to be able to use the voucher I also bought the cheapest Massive X preset bank I could find (€14.50). That gave me a bottom line of €194. They say that less is more, but sometimes more is certainly less.
  23. I'm running Firefox under Windows and it works perfectly for me. Your issue might be a thing with Brave: https://community.brave.com/t/dns-probe-possible-cant-access-any-sites/400496
  24. Okay, you’ve made your point. Feel free to create a new thread if you want to preach the Linux gospel, but please don’t derail this one. It’s not about Linux.
