  1. The other Sound collection that is real good is Arturia. When it goes on sale you get 22 instruments for $250. I love that package. I have Komplete too which is also great but between those two youo have every synth emulated pretty much. There's also Omnisphere but I don't think it's a substitute for either of these 2 packages.
  2. Have you tried using the MME drivers. Asio stops my sequencer from reacting with my streaming music study and the tutorials I work with to learn the program. I own Omnisphere and have had no problems with it in Cakewalk. Now Reason Propellerheads is a different story. I can't get it to run 2.5 or 2.6. But I'm having so much success with Cake that I just can't stop using it.
  3. S Cook Thanks yeah that makes sense. I remember when I was exposed to the Amiga DR T's Keyboard Sequenceer Level II They always had the input default to the last open track and I really had no exposure to the difference between audio and midi. I struggled for weeks to figure it out only to keep being confused. The manuals are not written the way people do it now. But for sequencers that was a very creative time.
  4. Thanks everyone I have been rolling with Cake today. Did a midi track, converted to an audio track. Did an audio track of the Casio CT-x 3000 Electric Piano and Piano Did a track and used the Cakewalk keyboard as a modulaiton wheel (worked) I'll make a template to guide newbies and submit it. Thanks so much
  5. Have you checked with Native-Instruments to see if you have the latest version? Run Native Access and that will show you if they came out with another update. What happens when you run Kontakt by itself? Is it glitch free? I had problems with the original Kontakt when it was released. So I checked that and they had a higher program and put that on there with no installation problems. Also maybe you can try the other settings rather than simple instrument track. I had an issue not being able to run Pentegon for years, Until one day for kicks I tried it on one of the other settings. It worked. Now for some crazy reason it will work under simple instrument track giving no problems. Why? I don't know? The other issue about Kontakt is it likes extra sounds to be put in deliberate places and so if you just stick them in documents they don't always work. For example I can't get the modern 60's drummer to work with the native-instruments patches, but it works fine with the Groove Monkee so with those I have enough, so I haven't really tried to fix it. If it isn't broken don't try to fix it to make it more broken. Also have you tried it with Studio Drummer and the difference between the normal kits and light kits?
  6. Change your drivers to MME. Create a MME tutorials file, you would be able to play tutorials from youtube or practice songs from your streaming service. I haven't trie cd's so I don't know if that would work or not. Save it as a workspace for the purpose! I also name my tracks that way, For the Purpose instead of the name of the instrument or the software company that developed it. Check the MME drivers I have been able to work inside Cakewalk go back out and come back in multiple times. I could not do that at all with ASIOfor All. Infact it caused my Amazon Music Unlimited HD streaming service to die even when Cakewalk wasn't running it refused to work with those drivers.
  7. Is it common to directly run your keyboard output into the computer directly? or Should you run it into a mixer first? I have been unable to record audio from my controller by running it directly. Any ideas, when I go to select my front mike , nothing is recorded in the audio track.
  8. This is on a different note, In most people's opinion which sequencing system has the most well thought out keyboard shortcutting system. Are they all non-standard or is there one that is considerably more feature rich of keyboard shortcuts?
  9. Thank you everyone. I was able to get the tutorials to keep working while in Sonar by using the MME drivers and unchecking the ASIO4All in case the MME's have disappeared from your system. Still haven't tried the WDM what can they do that these 2 modes don't. The purpose is that this allow you to use other programs, such as your streaming service, or youtube video's and try things out on Cakewalk as you listen. But on my system the MME's allowed me to do that. The Asio4all didn't. Thanks for the links to the video's. They are very helpful
  10. I need to have the MME inputs back! because sometimes I want to practice a song by listening to it in the background. The MME's let me do that! The Asio4All drivers don't. So I wanted to build a Cakewalk workbench to do that. But I can't get the list of original drivers back since I installed the ASIO4All DRIVERS? How do I do this?
  11. I did some recording in cakewalk and I am using timewarp 2600 and recrded a midi base line on the 4th spot . but when I play it back , pushed onto the 2nd track is the selection of the instrument. and that needs to be switched on to hear the 4th spot. I've enclosed a picture. Why is this?
  12. OK I have really been having a lot of success with discovering all the 8.5 features in Band Lab For example on the process menu it listed bounce to clip and bounce to track. Cakewalk BL split the items into seperate menus Tracks and Clips, but I've found everything from 8.5. The only thing I see as missing is the Audio FX sounds. But I have learned about lots of stuff, I didn't even know was in Cakewalk. Also I have been writing process involved names for my tracks. Is there a way to share my excercises? Somebody may find them useful. Thanks for the replys.
  13. I am working through a tutorial for Cakewalk 8.5 and it seems as if the Options menu was removed and I can't find many of the options in Cakewalk. Where are the keyboard bindings customization options also you were allowed to use your controller for editing as well. I don't see that any more. What other features were taken out never to return? I can't find the general options tab at all. Where is that or what happened? Thanks in advance.
  14. Thanks I found it. But is there a way to move the presets for the arpeggiator into the media drawer, My presets take 2 clicks to try out a arpeggiator pattern and then the dialogue closes, so I have to reopen it for every new one I try. Is there an easier way to browse through the presets?

  16. Some of the Amiga midi programs Dr. T's KCS allowed you to use a footswitch to stop and start the sequencer. I don't know if Cakewalk will accept that or even if they make those any more. Has been decades since I thought about it. Someone with more knowledge than I have I'm sure can guide you.
  17. I've looked at the inspector track and the track and cannot locate the arpeggiators. Any ideas of where to find it?
  18. Never mind! I forgot to load a Drum Kit. Once I did that it works as it should.
  19. I'm trying to use the Session Drummer with Groove monkee midi clips in my browser folder. So I create a track with session drummer, then I pull out the content that I want from the Media section of the browser but it's playing the wrong instrument, so I changed it to the Session Drummer 3, but when I copy out the clip to the track view, I get no sound. What am I misunderstanding?
  20. I was trying to develop my accopmpaniment skills playing to groove monkee ballad drumbeats. I can't always think of a structure to match a beat and I am actually listening to Frank Sinatra and Elton John because I need to hear the subtlety and slow relaxing ballads textureized across tempos matching our fast times. So it's kind of interesting to hear the difference between decades. I was looking at the Ballad Groove rhythms in Groove Monkee Ballad Grooves but I wanted to write a bass part for each of those sections in there. so I wanted to watch the drum beats at 62 BPM I know it's slow but you hear every nuance and even staccatto notes at that temp sound pretty fast. I have a rule that I slow everything down so that I can hear the effect of every note and articulaiton. I hope this helps.
  21. I too am having trouble split at the end of a drum pattern. On this project everything was working I have 2 seperate drum tracks each on a difrferent track, and I want to alternate with them taking turns. At certain clipend times I would like to split and move the section down but on one of the tracks I can no longer get it to split after repeated attempts. This is on a midi track with groove monkee midi clips. Any ideas???
  22. Thanks I'm watching the video now and will put this into practice.
  23. I got Pentegon DXI to work the other day, but it does not load on the simple instrument track. I had to deselect that and it started working again. I'm just curious why that is. I may have to in some cases mix midi and audio together for certain cases, and I forgot how to do that, Thankfully because it's so much easier the way it is made now. Simpletrack is awesome. And everything works on it. Except Pentegon and I have to mount Synthmaster through that FLhost plug in in order to put Synthmaster into CW.
  24. I am writing in midi because it offers me more flexibility once I have settled on how to write something sensible with the parts I have picked out. I'm noti ntrested in writing something top 40 I want to lift out interesting conversations and put those into lyrics and poetry. I'd also like to throw in some essential math and science thoughts
