  1. So I got an email from Native about a survey they're conducting and how one could win amazing big prices by responding, yada yada. Most of you have probably gotten the same thing. Anyway, figured I'd check the questions since they are sometimes indicative of what's to come. Basically all of it was geared towards 'how convenient subscriptions are' and 'aren't they a great deal' compared to buying perpetual. At the end of the questionnaire, they directly started asking price points for a three different subscription packages. It really seems like that's gonna be their big push for next year. While I understand that in a production studio setting, subs might make more sense as a business expense, I'm still gonna hug my physical copy of Adobe CS5, blurt out and say "screw subs".

  2. I'm with both of you on this. I. Don't. Do. Subs! Ever. And if another company pulls a Waves type thing again, they're also on my never list.

  3. Same here. I've been downsizing the last months and am very happy with it, so buying has slowed down considerably. No need for monthly payments here unless they are coming in my direction.

  4. All for having subs as options, but they would definitely not see a cent from me again if they went subscription only, or tried to make perpetual a second class citizen like some companies do to try and incentivise people to subscribe. That would just incentivise me to leave! I haven't been excited about hardly any PA releases lately, apart from maybe one, so spending the $224 on the 2022 All Bundle from them has definitely been a cost saver for me instead of an annual subscription.

  5. You just gave the anti-definition of FOMO. It's the fear of missing out on something even though you absolutely don't need or want it. Buying something just because it's a great deal, an industry standard, or just something generally beloved.

  6. I use the U4 Upright in Pianoteq a lot. It has 25 different upright presets, including "a la Monk" ? One thing that is fun with the Pianoteq is to load the "Tacky" preset into one instance and the "Honky Tonk" preset into a second. I map the Tack piano to the right hand and the Honky Tonk piano to the left. Loads of fun. I learned that trick in high school in '67 from the brother of Tim Davis, who was a drummer and cofounder of the Steve Miller Band. He had put large, unpainted tacks on the middle C and up hammers of the school's upright in the lobby across from the auditorium and would play during class breaks and lunch. Really sounded cool. Boogie woogie, baby!

  7. In the last thread I said this reports like 8% CPU in Studio One. I have since done some more tests and research since I am extremely interested in the Console 1 hardware. Long story short, all the plugins use <2% in Reaper and of course Reaper is so customisable that I wouldn't even be locked into the Softube ecosystem necessarily: So I think I'm moving back to good old Reaper after excursions to Studio One and Bitwig.

  8. They will have to pry the cake from my cold dead hand, I will never switch. Gave Studio One a fair try, did not like it at all. Unintuitive interface, a major obstacle for me. Looks like I will be one of the only die hard fans left doing Cakewalk videos on YT. To me it is not really about making money (otherwise I would have used Mike's short video format) as I have never made a single dime from my Cakewalk YT channel, yet. It is about sharing my musical journey with those who may find it helpful. The few subscribers who do show up are awesome. Getting Cakewalk users to my channel is like pulling teeth. youtube search for @cbbtv I have had two Cakewalk channels on YouTube I closed the old one out That old channel I started over 6 years ago, I had to dedicate that channel to something else. I deleted the old videos. One of my live videos is over 7 hours long... Skip over the parts that don't interest you. hehe. And I started off with Master Tracks midi on a Commodore 64 until I graduated to Cakewalk for MSDOS. My own original Cakewalk songs got 2 million listens last month... Studio One for Cakewalk users? No thanks, I'll pass... One caution, my oldest videos on my channel are sort of obsolete because I use different apps and techniques and they have evolved over time. I still occasionally use Dimension Pro. lol Mike has a great Cakewalk YouTube channel that has helped me in many instances as well.

  10. Whenever I see pictures of Regent Sounds, it never ceases to amaze me. From the first time I heard the first Sabbath, I had this picture of such a large space. But they recorded it in a frickin' closet. Same phenomenon for Ozzy's Speak of the Devil. I thought it sounded huge. And that seemed to match the photos I'd seen. But then I saw what those concerts at the Ritz looked like... Expectations: Reality:

  13. I've tried to love Mixcraft so much, but something just feels slightly off for me to commit fully. Same with Waveform. As for FOMO. I haven't been able to escape it and spent a bit too much to my liking. Basically buying something at a 'great price' that I most definitely do not need (but is still 'nice to have'). With some sales, and especially with glitched sales, the mental gymnastics can really hit full force: "If I don't spend now, I'll have to spend more in the future! I'm doing this for tomorrow's sake!" But here's hoping I'll be less impulsive next year. Especially with string libraries. Oh, string libraries...

  14. Is that even an issue? Last I checked I've got iLok plugins working from companies that died years ago. Could just be that company no longer has access to new iLok registration codes. Details would be in the developers iLok licensing agreement but I have neither the desire or patience to dig it up and read it.

  16. Even if they don't move to a subscription model it's unlikley I'll buy much more from them given that the quality/usefullness of their stuff has been on the decline for a while. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. And fortunately we still have a gazillion choices.

  20. Modern U and the VSL Bösendorfer really don’t sound like uprights to me. More like baby grands. Maybe because I'm too much of a Thelonious Monk fan, so when I hear „upright“ I'm thinking more „grandpa's living room“ than what you would usually find on a stage. My favourite upright is actually the extremely affordable Fluffy Audio MyPiano that goes on sale for like $9.

  21. If you buy the Modern U, it's the be all-end all of uprights (with possible exception of VSL Bosie 130)

  22. The signup for 'news' was sort of a flop. The signup for Sonar Beta is more recent and rigorous. If they still need participants and you qualify, they will let you know. Additional paperwork is required such as non-disclosure agreements & instructions to only report/communicate through private channels... and not this forum. Good luck!

  23. Actually a better idea might be more customized sizing of the channel strips. Most strips I can use the narrow view but there’s important ones I need full size. Right now I’ve never figured out an easy way to have both mixed in and retain this when re open a project. It seems to be a workspace thing.

  24. I'm probably spoiled because I use 4 monitors. TV is on mon1, PRV is mon2, Console is mon3, Video playback mon4... which really makes things easier.

  25. I didn't read those comments as disrespecting Mike at all. It seems to me it is just recognizing what he has made clear in his videos.

  26. I think that the Sonar announcement maybe hit Mike kinda hard. He's built a career (or at least a revenue stream) out of his CbB tutorials based on it being a great FREE DAW. He's also been doing tutorials for Studio One, but if you look at the number of views he gets on his Studio One videos vs. the ones for CbB there's no contest. He invested a lot of work in building up his set of tutorials. Now he seems to think that the best way he can serve his audience is by helping them transition to a different DAW.

  27. This video in the Studio One Revealed channel on YouTube was released yesterday. It's target audience is Cakewalk users who are or are considering migrating to or adding Studio One to their DAW arsenal. It starts out very basic, but I found it to be informative.

  35. The above video was linked in the Rebelle 7 manual (go figure, since it is from version 5), but there is a new feature video out. I have not tried some of them yet, but the new version has better tracking of paper/paint height which will allow embedding "structure" into the paper itself from another image (roughly the 5-10 minute section of the video below). New feature marker list for the video below are (I bold-faced the more impressive new features features): 0:00 Introduction 0:25 Metallic Materials 2:53 Color Panel 3:18 Metallic Materials Demonstration 4:45 Improved Art Surfaces 7:59 Structures 11:43 Fill and Gradient Tool 12:25 Improved Ruler Tool 13:40 Filter Layers 14:43 New in Brush Creator 16:14 Redesigned Wet and Dry Media 19:20 User Interface Updates

  40. Not sure that dissing Mike is super helpful, everyone has to make a living and if he's covering both bases - good for him. I use both platforms and am currently mulling over an upgrade to S1 Pro 6 (from 5) so I'll watch this with interest. I've always used Sonar/ CbB as my main DAW for donkey's years, but there is a lot about S1 I like so when the cost comes in for new Sonar (and I have absolutely no issue with them charging for what I think is an already excellent product), that might be my time to make the switch. So I for one, am grateful for Mike for this and his other videos - they have helped my production skills considerably - long may they continue. I get it, his style and content are not for everyone but better to just go elsewhere for your tutorials than to criticise the guy. Just my 2c Andy

  41. Is this a cover? It's got a professional sounding structure and arrangement. Kudos if it's your original! Nice vocals! I like your effects treatment on the bgv's, although I suspect your harmony or main vocal on the word "sure" might be worth a tweak. Catchy tune! Might also bring kick and snare up front a bit more in the mix, to fully support the guitar groove. cheers, -Tom

  42. Some different interpretations as to what this song sounds like and yet I'll add another. To me the melody sound like an early 1960's song as done maybe in the style of the Mekons. I liked their early stuff especially "Where Were You?" I really like the minimalist nature of this song!
