  4. I had not heard of this forum before your mention of it, M, so I wandered over to see what it was about, liked what I saw and signed up. Thanks for suggesting it. Definitely a good place for orchestral aficionados like me I should mention, though, I personally have never felt at all ill-served by the folks on this forum. I only do classical/symphonic stuff exclusively, but when I've posted my music, folks here have been generous with their time and commentary. And it's been really appreciated.

  5. Everybody's dancing around it, but I'll just say it out loud: automated mastering is snake oil. Many accomplished mix engineers also happen to also be accomplished mastering engineers (e.g. Phil Ramone). But they don't master their own records. The value of an ME isn't in his expensive gear, granite speakers or perfectly-tuned rooms. The true value is having a separate set of ears that can critically and objectively evaluate your mix, in an environment other than your own studio. To that end, you'd do just as well by offering to swap mastering duties with somebody from the Songs forum.

  7. And we have ourselves a winner! Let's all congratulate mibby for skillfully winning the game of the deal. {Narrator} When playing the game of the deal it's important to know all the tricks, and I discovered this one myself recently; if you put and leave something in your cart, often during a holiday and especially towards the end of it (must also be logged in so they have an email attached to your cart), the vender will often auto-email you w/ an even better deal if you go through w/ your cart purchase.

  8. Well, how perfectly boring. I can't tell you how many times I've heard of bands breaking up because of this. Even VH-1 "behind the music" wouldn't bother recycling this timeworn, threadbare trope of a narrative.

  10. KeyPleezer has released LivingRoom Upright Piano Free Edition, a multi-format lite version of the complete edition of the instrument, currently in production for Native Instruments Kontakt sampler. The instrument is a virtual character upright piano that has been sampled from a Swedish large-size upright piano. The free edition consists of 1.5GB of full length 24-bit / 44.1kHz .wav samples. KeyPleezer says: A very intimate uptake of the large-body piano sound with lots of detail and clarity make up this character upright piano instrument. Our complete edition was recorded in 3 close microphone positions. The sounds for this free edition were selected from the first microphone position - above keys close to hammers. All white keys were included in 6 layers, 3 for Pedal Up, 3 for Pedal down (sustain pedal pressed), so separate sound layers triggered based on sustain pedal action. Features include: Intimate & detailed sound rich in piano body. Slightly out of tune here and there, for more realism (not broken or honky-tonk). Close mic player position with lots of stereo space. 6 Velocity layer recordings, piano, mezzo & forte dual recordings (3 layers for Pedal OFF, 3 Layers for Pedal ON). Dynamic Range knob for velocity triggered volume range. Pre-track volume output. 2 Separate "Raw Authentic" and "Muted / Dampened" upper key range presets "Raw Authentic" preset has a upper key range that behaves like the original piano, playing the entire sound always. "Muted / Dampened" preset plays upper ranges like any other key, dampened upon release. Logic Pro X & GarageBand specific Smart Controls: Dynamic Range (EXS instrument volume range). Bass & Treble tone controls. Compression control. Transient control. Volume output knob pre-track. Works for both Windows & macOS, depending on your sampler software. Currently supported samplers are Native Instruments Kontakt sampler (5.0.1+, full version required) and the EXS24 sampler. A separate macOS installer is available for using Logic Pro X, MainStage and GarageBand patches, with built-in Smart Controls that load directly in these 3 apps. Smart controls include dynamic range control, compression, transient control and eq. According to KeyPleezer, more sampler formats are in production. View of Smart Controls user interface in GarageBand v10.3.4 running under macOS Catalina. For Kontakt a separate NCW version is also available, including only .ncw (lossless compressed audio) sound files which is lighter in size at around 700MB. LivingRoom Upright Piano Free Edition can be downloaded for free via KeyPleezer's website at keypleezer.com/livingroom-upright-piano/free-edition https://keypleezer.com/livingroom-upright-piano/free-edition/

  11. Try disabling the "stutter" module, which is on by default in most of the presets. There is a lot of functionality in the plugin (and you can use it less heavy-handed) besides the stutter feature. It is linked to the transport, so samples are in musical time and can be used in varying ways (it basically captures sample slices on the audio feed then manipulates them per the algorithm used). Unless doing EDM, you will find most of the presets overzealous. The manual is worth reading for that guy, especially for the controls that have rate variation to them. That GUI isn't as intuitive as one would hope.

  12. Yep, I hear you. But first thing there is no such option to get as good deal as like having $25 voucher... The only closest possibility is to combine focusrite with $29 plugin what in total will give $28.99 against $24.99 so you need to pay $4 more comparing if you have $25V. It is not a lot you could say but still psychologically makes me very uncomfortable and frustrated. Yep I did it in the past, many times, have several licenses of tuner which is in fact not used by me (so many better alternatives) But hey, we (I mean mostly you are publishing deals here which are differing sometimes several cents (EP against JRR or AD or something else), right? And Larry, you underestimate me, I am at next level of GAS and not getting 'freebie' which cost more than $0 Maybe another explanation is I am tired of that approach... Tricking, sneaking, trash collecting, etc... I would like just to buy, fast, quick and be appreciated by manufacturer if I buy more... Not discriminated but appreciated

  13. Larry, the problem with posting classical works on this forum is that the majority of people here are not doing classical. So, if you post your music here, out of courtesy you need to also listen to and comment on the other music people post here. but you probably have as little interest in such much music as they have of yours. I suggest you join the Ning Composers Forum. most of the music is classically oriented and you will get far more interest in your music. I see that several former members of Northern Sounds have moved over there (Ted Vanya, fastlane, G Prengel to name a few). composersforum.ning.com

  15. I will never understand why the minimum loop length has been increased. Back in the early Sonar days I could highlight a short sample and loop it to for instance check the levels of that particular kick or snare hit. Or loop a single note of a recording so I can find it on the fretboard on my bass. Now I cannot do it. Revert it to what it was, please. It was a vital feature for me, it's completely ruined now for no apparent reason.

  21. Everything Staff View - another vote from me. But maybe most of all - remove the triplet thingy that there has to be three triplets notes everywhere - what beat is doing that? All shuffle is 1st and 3rd triplet - and you cannot do shuffle????? At least allow to insert manually a triplet rest, not smooth, but at least doable if that stays.

  22. Check it out, just put this together quickly ;^) I did make a discovery that Cakewalk does not link the MIDI Channel Volume Controls to the Volume on the individual slots. These can be automated however as you will see in the video. I checked this with Cubase and they provide and additional Quick Control that can be assigned to the individual part volume, Hope this helps?

  24. It would be helpful to have a screenshot showing how your views are configured. Assuming from the description that you have the Console undocked, I did a quick check, and the multidock open/close shortcut only worked when the undocked Console View was floating (the default when first undocked), but then you wouldn't see the dock opening and closing if the console is maximized because it's part of the main application window that will be hidden behind a maximized Console . If floating is disabled, the standard 'D' shortcut stops working. ButPrev/Next Measure shortcuts work in either mode for me so I'm not sure what that's about, though another user menitoned having the same problem recently.

  25. We are not there yet. Give it another 20 years from now and there will be great strides in online mastering. Something that will be able to ask you 25 questions and then analyze your mix and master to a specification. Right now its just a few algorithms doing guess work and what i like to call "turd polishing". Nothing better than a human feel for something that was mixed by a human. Even though a lot of stuff now is done by machines, the more we put our hands in to it, the better off it sounds.

  26. When documented features seem to be missing the first thing to check is the Workspace setting. The first image shows the Workspace is set to Basic. The Basic Workspace does not include the Video view. Try setting the Workspace to Advanced, None or create your own.

  27. Using the Mix Workspace [supplied with Cakewalk], I assigned Ctrl+W to Show/Hide MultiDock. I usually use D. It worked to toggle (Show/Hide) the MultiDock. UPDATE: I am not sure how I did it, but I changed settings so the Show/Hide MultiDock does not work with a shortcut. Also, there are no dock/undock options on the MultiDock itself. Found how I did it. In the MultiDock, I closed all tabs using the little X on the tab. To get it back, I switched to a different Workspace. I am not sure if Console View = Mixer Mode, but if so, I hope this helps.

  28. Maybe so. Not at my PC, (at work on cell).

  29. I see what your talking about now. For the English version of CbB I use the D key to open and close the multidock. Shift+D maximizes/minimizes the Multodock. Not sure what that is saying, can't read it. But can you unbind the shortcut? Is that option available? Is Mixer View a Workspace? If so, that keybinding maybe part of that Workspace. I don't use Workspace so I am not familiar with how it works. But I do use Multidock a lot. Love the multidock.

  30. Just a guess - Mixer Mode = Console View?
    1 point
  31. What are you meaning "Mixer Mode"? Is this a Lens that you use? Reason I ask is when you view the mixer it opens in the multi dock, so I am not understanding what you mean when you say the multidock won't work in mixer mode.

  33. That was very interesting! There's been a few, um, changes in the band since this video though... The two guys on the left are gone, I didn't even find a reference to the bass player, and the, er, "guy" on the right (the twin of the guy in the center) is now, officially, a girl named Isabella (or Bunny). I guess, if you're an android, it doesn't really matter much, does it? ?

  43. Use compressor to control the dynamics of the singer. There are some parts where it could sing louder some parts slower.Use fast attack setings and low ratio. Use a de esser for reducing sibilance. Use an eq to remove bad resonances from the room and the mic. Also hipass and lowpass to fit in the song. Apply reverb if needed or maybe a gentle chorrus

  44. If your asking me, I play the song on acoustic guitar and record it, then I play it back and manually and enter the relevant notes and information on a midi track linked to a VST guitar to match it. Midi guitar out of the right speaker and original recorded guitar out the left. There is probably a better way that half works, I don't know. I am learning a lot about the weird timing I use when I play the acoustic solo with vocals. No matter what I do, it doesn't make sense on the grid and it is the same with all my songs played with that Jazz style. I remember trying this some time ago and just gave up. I do use the Acoustic to produce songs but that is for different songs in a different style that is more grid friendly and the acoustic never ends up on the final song, it's just a scratch track but I can get the beat, the bass, keyboard and electric guitars all from that scratch track. These songs that I am trying to get done, are like jazz but it's doing my head in trying to work out the timing. Metronomes are complete distracting rubbish on this stuff. I am using a single finger click on an offbeat and that gives me the feel. Also, trying to add any sort of arrangement to them is impossible, the minute I do that, I have to start changing the guitar parts which I don't want to do. I think these particular songs will work best with just acoustic guitar, a simple shaker and vocals, that's it. There is no problem with the vocals and the acoustic working together, it is as smooth as butter. I don't understand how it can sound so in time and smooth when I play live but when I try to move it to a midi grid, it all goes to hell.
