Possible bug - Input Echo (audio track) stops working
Syphus replied to Colin Nicholls's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I saw somewhere in the forum others talking about the same issue using a Focusrite interface (driver update issues). I myself have experienced this "static" effect on playback. This has since stopped since I have updated my driver to the "next" to latest version and have not had this happen for a few months. Perhaps it is your driver? [additional info] After the coffee kicked in I seem to recall that updating the Focusrite drive did not go well the first time and I re-installed the driver and rebooted my laptop and then things worked better . . . Don't know if it applies, but thought I'd add it anyways. Syphus -

I found this very entertaining! Like antler said, Starts of kinda dry, but became very interesting as it went on . . . This reminds me a recent experience I had just this week. I was trying to contact customer service of a very large (profitable) corporation and "due to heavy calling" the wait times could be somewhat long. As I was waiting on the phone, they were playing the lamest background music. Only that wasn't enough, The music was so over-driven and distorted, that it was unbearable to listen to. Long story short, I had come to the conclusion that this effect was done on purpose (my speculation) so that a portion of people would rather hang up than continue to hear it - LOL. They had to aware of this . . . (even though this was probably a third party service) That is what this this reminded me about (except the music was much clearer). I certainly have had my share of "corporate videos" I had to watch in my lifetime. Syphus

OK - I'm back . . . Problem is solved due to several things: 1 - I created some midi (for bass track) using another program that I know the results of. had to adjust notes to bring them into VST range - this worked importing the file 2 - Grabbed the midi file from Guitar Pro and imported (using drag & drop method): Stripped out the extra data from midi using "Event Viewer" Set the VST to ignore NRPN data (per Scook) Had to adjust note register (how low can you go - not that low - LOL). So most of the data was out of range of the VST (my bad @mettelus thanks) Hit play and all is good Thanks everyone for your help/suggestions - Have a great day! Syphus

I will try to answer all here: yes tried to look and edit the midi via "event viewer" there was a "NRPN" at the beginning of the file - I deleted it but the condition persisted. I do not believe it is my issue - the instrument worked until I imported the midi . . . I thought the same . . . unfortunately I do not see any export parameters with Guitar Pro I will look at this . . . and enable "Don Not Intercept NRPNs" and see what happens. I will also edit the midi first (before clicking play ) to remove the NRPNs to see what happens there. not likely in this case as I am using two different VSTs and both are acting badly with this data Thanks all for your suggestions . . . I will working on it later and report back . . . Syphus

Hi All, I have encountered this problem . . . I would like some thoughts . . . Here is the Process: 1) Create/edit a bass guitar part using Guitar Pro 7 (GP7) and export the midi 2) open a CW session (project) and using the "Synth Rack" create a instance of SI bass with/source midi track. At this point I can click on the bass string or run the MIDI program snippets on the left side or use the virtual controller keyboard and get sound from the instrument. 3) import or drag & drop (D&D) the midi from GP7 4) When I hit play, the midi track shows activity (VU), but now no sound is produced. 5) Stop play & go back to the instrument GUI (interface) . . . Clicking on bass or running the programs on the left do not produce any sound. Interesting enough, if I do not import or D&D the midi everything is working as described (I kill the project before hand by closing CW). Notes: Sometimes when I try to open CW again, it will not open and is hanging (still active process). Killing process allows me to open CW again. I don't know if it will kill it's self at this point (process) but something is obviously running in the background of CW. If I manually enter midi data using the PRV (on the instrument's source track), all is good and I can play the midi notes with sound. I tried to use the event viewer to see if there was anything weird going on with the imported midi, but saw nothing. Tried using another VST (MODO Bass) and reacted the same as described above I'm assuming the the midi data from GP7 is the problem as this point. I'm going to go and generate some other midi data with another program and import it to see if it has any problems . . . Has anyone out there experienced this? Thanks, Syphus

I just recently (as in yesterday/today) spent backing up my computers/drives. I decided to go the "Clonezilla" route. Has anyone utilized this software and what is your satisfaction level with it. One of the reasons I went this route was due to cheapness (its free). Right now my DAW Laptop is backing up an image to a USB 4TB drive via Clonezilla. Unfortunately this method does not support incremental type backups but I want to do this once a month in the event of a drive failure. I also have a USB external drive that I backup my stuff to (such as CbB project files and installers using Clonezilla), I also back up that drive image image to another drive. The Clonezilla method requires the use of a bootable USB drive to run a Linux OS in ram (memory) and no install on my hard drive w/background tasks. Syphus

Can't Fix The Metronome - Solved ! (Thanks to Noel)
Syphus replied to GottfriedMind's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi - I just test this out ( I think this is what you want): (even thought I'm a bit late) Open a new project (basic) Set your audio to none (it will change once you start recording) Turn you input fader down Go to the page for preferences (as shown by Noel above) Click the "playback box", "count in" to "0" measures set you tempo Arm your track for record, type "r" on keyboard. Recording should start. Let this record for about 4 and 1/2 measures. Then stop. Go to your track and select measure 1 thru 4, set your loop (for 4 measures) Once loop selected, hit play. Transport should loop through the 4 measures and the "Metronome" should be clicking If this is not what you are trying to accomplish - oops, sorry Syphus -
[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Let me say a quick thing here: This is not the most elegant solution to this problem, but support advised that one should update to Windows 10 (as a solution). It does not appear that support (I did contact them) will pursue this as a CbB problem . This could be true (not getting treated as a CbB problem), but following the procedure above you might be able to get around it somewhat and get back the functionality as it was designed (for Start Window). Interesting... I will do that next time . . . Although, now I'm curious as to why . . . I will search the old forums and see what I can find . . . Thanks for the info . . . Once again . . . Syphus

I was just relating my story . . . If you have it installed and license set in your Ilok account. Just re-scan your plugins with the "Plugin Manager" (Utilities> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager). You should be good at that point. Syphus
-
Here is my tale: Installed it without the license installed to Ilok. Ran cake and the scanner was stuck on Loom.dll. Closed cake to find that underneath was a dialog box asking for license info. So I got the license, installed into Ilok. Ran Cake and no scan, no loom detected. So I ran the full scan from the manager and Loom found. Loom was under "Instrument" tab listed under Uncategorized . Set it to synth and all is good. Syphus

[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Alright folks - Last entry before we re-enter the atmosphere . . . The last test I wanted to do before concluding this thread was rebooting the computer and see if that last entry (by me) rang true. The scroll bar seems to be a bit thinner that I would expect, but the scroll bar is still there. All seems to be working as it is supposed to. Of course one can only expect 16 icons to be available do to the design of the "Start Screen", but now I can access them via the SS. To summarize, here is how I got this to work: I went to the setting in my control panel (for windows OS) and set the "Display" heading under "Appearance and Personalization" and changed the setting from "125%" to "100%". This will cause you to have to logout of your account and re-login. Do not pay attention to the way your desktop looks at this time. Open cakewalk and check your SS. It should be normal looking (with a visible scroll bar) and all other methods working ( arrow keys& pg up/dn keys). At this point go back and change your text setting back to "125%", logoff & re-login". Your desktop should be back to normal. Open cakewalk and see if you SS is working correctly. I just wanted to finish this up in case anybody out there encounter this - maybe this will help them. I'm going to set this as solved at this point. Thanks all who contributed to this thread . . . OK - Iied (LOL) . . . When back to old settings and all is right with my display . . . but, now I can grab my scroll tab and I have opened and closed cake several time and it seems consistent. Too weird for me They say: To err is human; to really mess up takes a computer Syphus -
[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Too late - Already tried it - mine was set for 125% and now 100% The bar became visible and usable. I can't say that I am enjoying this resolution though . . . It messed up my desk top arrangement (fixable) but the weird thing is now my browser (firefox - bookmarks) is a bit strange (also fixable). I have run to band practice for the rest of the day so it will be a bit before I get back to the investigation. Syphus -

[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Not exactly - I would say that the window is not large enough (wide enough) to show the scroll bar. I'm getting it to show by forcing the window to shift (as you can see in the image above. Note the letting is getting cutoff once the scroll bar pops out) Syphus -
[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
When the "Start Screen" (SS for now) first appears after initial launch of cakewalk: Mouse-pad does not move the window, the up/dn arrows or pg up/dn do not either If I click (using the mouse pointer) on an empty space around the project icons while on the "Recent Project", then the up/dn arrows or pg up/dn WILL move the window up/dn so as to select the additional projects displayed in the window. Doing the same on the "New Project" tab yields the same results. No scroll bar in either view. If I do a "double tap" and hold the second tap on the mouse-pad, then swipe the mouse pointer to the right until all at once, the entire window shifts to the left - boom! (I would like to note that this set of commands, does a select function, highlighting the icons and such) The scroll bar suddenly appears and now I can use the mouse pointer to move the scroll bar to move the window up and down. All appears to function normal, but the window remains shifted to the left. (the scroll bar is black) Once the SS is closed and restarted (via the file menu or restarting cake) the SS is back to the non-functioning status until one forces it to start working per the above instructions. Even if most people are not experiencing this "behavior" this is not correct functionality in my book. I will leave this topic open for a while and I will be sending the above info to Support and hopefully they will look into it for a future release. It is not a show stopper by any means, but at least it answers the question as how the "Start Screen" should be working. I will report any info I get from Support that is relevant. Thanks to all that left their comments . . . Syphus -
[SOLVED] Start Screen not functioning correctly
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Between the last two postings (Dr Steve & HIBI) I have stumbled in to an interesting situation. I can get it to work correctly, but I have to force it to work. I have not come across the correct procedure to reproduce it yet - but for me, it seems the "window" needs to be larger by some amount of pixels so I can grab the scroll bar. I'll report back with my findings.... Syphus
