If you already read the thread - you might want to revisit it again - I added info related to using the 3.0 USB ports for your Focusrite . . . Syphus
-
I don't know if this is totally related (but I think it is) . . . I am running a Win 7 laptop. For a long while I was plugging my focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (second gen) into the 3.0 ports of the USB. Every once in a while I would get a BSOD out of the blue that would in some cases, take hours to recover from (really scary). The last time it happened in this configuration, I did a crash analysis and what I found was that the driver for the USB 3.0 was crashing. I looked for a newer version of the driver and there was none (I had a computer repair guy look at it and he could not find one). So I disabled the 3.0 drivers and only plug into the 2.0 USB ports. I have not had a BSOD in two years since that change . . . Just my story. Syphus

Look at this - with the configuration file for Cakewalk this is how the layout is: https://store.birchwoodstudioandevents.com/Sonar-Overlay (click on the graphic for enlarged view) You can also find other info on the web. I think that answers you question (hopefully) . If you don't have the "Sonar" overlay, the "Buss" selection is in the "Utility" section (top left button- Utility>Save) and the track switch is next to it on the left (Automation>trim). I think that getting the overlay is the best solution so you don't have to memorize all the substitutions for Cakewalk. Hope that answers your question. Just realized you were talking about the X-touch One . . . In that case never mind - my mistake - info is for the X-Touch . . . Sorry. The One does not have a "Buss" button that I know of. One of the reasons I did not start with that model. Syphus

Weird email I received from Electro-Harmonix
Syphus replied to Michael Docy's topic in The Coffee House
Really weird! I tried looking on their site to see if it was mentioned as a normal news item (as in the blog) and not a peep about it. I looks as if there was underground element happening there. I almost appears that someone has lost their senses. Syphus -
I'm not familiar with this export process, but I did find this . . . Might mean something. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1190244 I could not find anything meaningful about OMF . . . How big is your project - OMFI appears to have a size limitation . . . Won't hurt to check out the link., but note it is old (2007). Syphus

As I had said, I don't remember the exact process I used to get mine set. But go back and read the threads that discuss this (see my response above) and they might have your answer. I would have to do the research if I was to create another "template" for myself, I'd do a bit more research on this now , but I'm busy with a project that I need to finish. Syphus

I don't know the direct answer, but do a search for "Start Screen" (with the quotes) and a bunch of stuff shows up that you will have to sort through. But to get you started: I know I had the same question once and did solve my problem, but I don't recall what the answer was . . . Syphus

"[Solved] Connection Error" when running "Check for Update"
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
With Noel's help we were able to track this down and provide a solution to get it fixed . . . the notes are: Precursor: I had a internet error a few weeks back and I believe that is what may have cause this to occur since I never had this problem before this. I don't know how I fixed my connection at that time. Also I am running Win 7 (Still!), although I don't think that was the problem since this has been working all along. Problem: When clicking on "Check for Updates" I received this message: The reason was because I was missing TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as default secure protocols in WinHTTP. Per Noel, I could not run a "Secure Https" connection out of Cakewalk. Solution( in this case): Went to this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-default-secure-protocols-in-winhttp-in-windows-c4bd73d2-31d7-761e-0178-11268bb10392#bkmk_easy and applied the "Easy Fix" This made my Cakewalk able to connect and check for updates: So Setting to Solved and big thanks to Noel for helping me out. "[Solved] Connection Error" when running "Check for Update"
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The above is the error message. I took a project and uploaded it to my bandlab library from in Cakewalk without a problem and was able to browse the project. Also logged out and then logged back in from within Cakewalk to Bandlab (got the refreshed message). Thanks, Syphus -

"[Solved] Connection Error" when running "Check for Update"
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I'm not sure what you mean by the above? I normally stay logged in to BA, but I don't have it running. Also as part of this (process), I updated BA to the latest version and re-logged in. The "refresh" detection seems to be functioning. If it was a case of Cakewalk trying to login again, would it not let me know if that was a problem. I seem to recall at one point Cakewalk did tell me to login to BA for refresh checks . . . (I guess I do know what you mean). I don't know how this process works and if that was the case (clashing login) I would think someone would have already said something about having a problem. I just checked the "Help" drop down and CW does show me logged in to bandlab Thanks, Syphus -
"[Solved] Connection Error" when running "Check for Update"
Syphus replied to Syphus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@Noel Borthwick Sorry for the late reply . . . Everything seems good on my end. I'm not having any internet connectivity problems that I can detect. Just checked and the error is still occurring. I don't know if refreshing uses the the connection (I imagine it does), but that is functioning. Is there anything I can do to check the Cakewalk connectivity? I'm running 2021.04 build 175. Thanks, Syphus -
Did a search - could not find anything. I noticed that I did not get a message telling me that there was a "Early Access" available. So I ran the "Check for Update" in the Help drop down and I got a dialog box telling me that there was a "Connection Error" Check back later". I am using the latest version of cakewalk. Tried rebooting and that did not help. Just update the Bandlab Assistant and tried it again - no luck. Internet seems fine . . . Anyone else seeing this or is it just me? Thanks, Syphus

I looked and could swear I saw no other thread for Cakewalk 2021.04 Update 1 (build 27.04.0.175). Not even a new release notification. I did think it a bit strange that there was no other notification . . . I will look a bit closer next time. Syphus

I believe you are referring to BandLab's WEB Based music editor, not Cakewalk. Cakewalk is not a "WEB" application. You have to install Cakewalk into your computer. Syphus

Note: I sent a note to support about this issue and asked them to reword the entry for "Snapshot" so that it made it a bit clear that this works on an existing "Automation envelope" For anyone looking to this thread for an answer here it is: IF you what to use "Snapshot", be aware that this works on an "existing" envelope. If you were not intending to automation on the entire track and just wanted to do say one or two measures of (for example volume), do this: Go to the start of the track after you have established you level for the track and do a "Snapshot" at that point. Set you "Now Time" to the point you want a change (for example - measure 10 [ 10:01:00 ]) Set your volume to what you want at this point with the track fader. Do another "Snapshot" at this "Now Time" and all will be done. Remember you can "Undo" all this if it does not fit your needs or work the way you envisioned it. I am marking this as "Solved" and hopefully we will see some kind of update in the documentation. Syphus

It is clear that my method is the "way" to do it. I will search the documentation and see if there is a hint. If I was a total newbie, I would be searching for help because the instructions are somewhat misleading - at this point a minor irritation. I just wanted to see if I missed something . . . Hopefully, this will save someone a few minutes/hours of time by posting. Thanks for your response. Syphus

I was looking in the manual about Snapshot and how it is used. The manual says the following: To create a snapshot of a track or bus parameter 1.Move the parameter control to where you want it. 2.Move the Now Time to the location where you want to create the snapshot. 3.Right-click the control and choose Automation Snapshot in the pop-up menu. You don’t have to write-enable the track or bus module. An indicator will appear on the control to show that automation has been added, and a node will be added to the control's envelope on the track. 4.Make sure the appropriate Automation Read button is enabled, play your project and listen to the results. You can undo the snapshot by using the Undo command, or by taking another snapshot at the same Now Time. So I go to a project, Select an Audio track, move the volume fader to 0 then right-click on the fader an select "Automation Snapshot". Now I have an automation envelope that is sitting at 0 at my selected "Now Time" for the entire select track (per the envelope). Now I RTZ and set my fader to it's correct level and hit play. The volume goes to zero immediately and stays there. This is what happens when I follow the directions above from the manual. In reality, I have to set a "snapshot" at Now Time set to the start (bar 1:0:0) with my selected volume level set for the track average (lets say 0 dbs for now) , then move to my new Now Time where I want to have the volume drop to zero and snapshot it there also. Now everything goes according to plan (sound until I hit second Now Time). Am I missing something or are the directions making an assumption that I was not aware of? Should the documentation explain this better or is it not working the way it is supposed to. Once I figured it out, it seems to be the right way. What do you think - am I doing something wrong per the instructions? Opinions please, or correct me if I'm wrong . . . Thanks for your time. Syphus

Hello - Just a thought: I have exported MP3s with frozen tracks. I think that I only select the track that has the audio on it (not the synth/midi). Perhaps the hangup/failure is that the export is trying to refreeze the track and this causes a hangup in the process . . . IDK if this is true - like I said, just a thought . . . Syphus

Heads up . . . Yes this is an April Fool's thing.
