  1. Hi Ed D. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it. I was trying to go old school on this number and hopefully I got close. Hi Bob. Gosh ---- thank you very much. I always appreciate the suggestions and support that you have provided over the years. I have learned a lot from you and others on this forum. I too appreciate it when music can transform you to "another place" and I am glad that I may have approached that in this song. Thanks again. Thank you Lynn. I always appreciate your input and encouragement. A BBQ place, hmmm? KC might be a nice summer hangout when it gets too hot here in FL? I don't know a crowd of over 3 people might be too intimidating though!??! BTW I almost missed listening to your last post but I found it -- listened -- thought that you did an excellent job with it --- and enjoyed the heck out of it. Thanks again Lynn.
  2. This song was quite a surprise for me. I don't know what I was expecting but the more that I listened the more it drew me in. It really captures the pain of one spurned in love relationship. I hope this song wasn't precipitated by personal experience but if so, it happens to the best of us. The vocal presentation and instrumentation all set the stage for very powerful and intimate lyrics. The mix sounded very good to my ears. Excellent song!!
  3. Textures indeed!!! I absoflippinlutely loved this song. It seems that it is hard to find any new songs that are instrumentals -- we need more instrumentals! As usual your skills in mixing and playing are excellent but you certainly have a talent for crafting excellent music.
  4. Another interesting and cool sounding song from you. I particularly like the use of the L & R panned keyboards in this song. They aurally complement the introspective lyrics that you have written. The guitar accents also really worked well and vocals were well done and fit perfectly. Terrific work.
  5. I am glad that this song bounced back up to the top of the page. Some how I missed it previously. This is really is a well written song with some excellent lyrics and good work on the vocals. You must have made some of the suggestions made above because the mix sounded doggone good to me. I always enjoy listening to your new posts. You are building up quite a collection of very good songs!!
  6. What a great pop song. I particularly liked the clever humour of the lyrics but everything (e.g., performances, arrangement, vocals, composing, instrumentation, etc.) sounded good to me. I agree with Lynn above. This song is indeed infectious and makes you want to go back and listen again.
  7. Recently I watched a couple of Bio's on PBS. One was featuring Mississippi Fred McDowell and the other Leo "Bud" Welch. I was captivated by the fact that even though these were not schooled musicians and that the footage and sound were primitive they really captured a feeling and sounded cool. As I am want to do, I tried to do something that might capture this and as happens too often ---- well, I may have missed the mark. Anyway, this is my attempt at stripped down, primitive Blues. I hope you enjoy. As this is something new for me, I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks. That's Alright https://www.soundclick.com/bands3/default.cfm?bandID=963481

    Uganda - video

Absoflippinlutely fantastic. First of all, I must say that I am a wee bit envious. What an opportunity this must have been for you. Your photography is excellent! The music really complements the visuals and it all fits together perfectly. This is an excellent production and I enjoyed your trip through your post. Well Done!!!
  9. Hi Doug. This is a cool and interesting song. It does indeed have a psychedelic feel to it. I have no suggestions to add that haven't been addressed above. It does grab ones attention and I really enjoyed listen to it. Thanks for posting it.
  10. Good song indeed. No crits on my part either -- good arrangement, good performance, and good mix. Very well done indeed!!
  11. I like the funky feel you developed in this song. It really compliments the lyrics. You tell a good story and I love a song that tells a story. The timing and phrasing of your vocals are excellent. The mix sounds good on my system. There is a bunch of really good stuff that comes through on this song. Well done!!!

    Ordinary Day

You did a very good performance on this song. The mix sounded good on my system. I really liked the baritone notes of your vocal. Nice one1

Hi Allan. Thanks for your response and listening. I'll check out the bass. I always appreciate your suggestions. Thanks again. Hi Edd. For me, it is always easier to do a song when you are having fun doing it and I had fun doing this one. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. Hey Kenny. I have seen clips of Beck and Higham playing together --- in particular Jeff Beck - Daryl Higham Rockabilly at Ronnie Scotts. Daryl Higham is one of my favourites and anything that I might do that would remind anyone of what Daryl Higham would do is absoflippinlutely great! Thanks Kenny -- you made my day!!!! Hi Amiller. Thanks very much. I appreciate that you took the time to listen and respond!
  14. This was a very enjoyable song and I enjoyed listening to it. The melody was not what I expected but once I listened to it and heard the lyrics, it all made perfectly good sense. Thanks for your explanation -- it really drove it all home for me. So much so, that I had to listen again. Thanks for posting this.

    Lonely Walk

This is a very interesting piece. The somber, quiet beginning is very introspective and does offer several images as bjorn suggested above but the militaristic, strong ending did bring up an image of power and politics (at least to me). Very well done and I enjoyed this! Thanks for posting.
  16. Another class rocker from you. I love the power of the guitars on this and you have done an excellent job on your vocals. I must say that one thing that I really appreciate about your music is your lyrics. Topical depth and power chords --- what a match!! Excellent stuff Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. This is a bit different for you. I really like the strong sound of the intro and the change in feeling when the piano comes in to the introduction of the guitars. I also really like the use of different styles and genre and the use of vocals. This is my second listen and this diversity of techniques certainly kept my attention. Excellent work!!!
  18. Absoflippinlutely outstanding!!! Every bit of this song is brilliant (as is most of what you do) and I mean this from top to bottom (e.g., performance, skill, production, arrangement, great vox and harmony, lyrics, etc., etc.). I even like the brevity of the rain in the intro. IMHO everything about this is professional! Well done my friend!

    Lone Wolf

Hi Tom. Will they really do that ---- wow! It has been a really (but really) long time since I performed before an audience. Your right, no delay/slapback/reverb. I recorded directly without any assistance and felt absolutely naked doing it (lol). Thanks for the kind words and the encouragement Tom! Hi Bjorn. You are most kind. And when I want to view some great videos paired with excellent music I turn to Bjornpdx! Thanks my friend. Hey Douglas. Thank you. I very much appreciate the fact that you took time to listen and very much appreciate your kind comments! Hey Daryl. I am very glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it!

    Red Tide

Veeery cool jazzy sounding song. Of course the performances were wonderful but I really enjoyed the lyrics and that lead guitar playing. Being a Florida boy I was expecting a different topic from the title (especially having experienced one of our longest red tides) but was pleasantly surprised by these lyrics and the whole doggone song.

    Sonic Sludge

Cool tune indeed and good playing. This song has an edge to it that I believe could be further enhanced with a nice driving bass.
  22. I hope that you are feeling better and that recovery is speedy. From the sound of your playing you have already recovered. It hard to believe that you did this in one take. I too like your tone but I really like the phrasing in your playing. I know that music is great therapy -- so please grace us with more posts like this one and be well
  23. Hi Ed, This is one of my favourite bluesy type songs. You must have had fun doing this. I certainly am not one to give advice on mixing , but for what it is worth, here are a couple of things that I noticed. What seemed muddy to me was primarily the bass. I couldn't quite determine where it was panned. On my "primitive" equipment it some times sounded as if it were panned left then right. Perhaps if the bass were centered a bit more and if it were given a little more EQ this might help define it better. Also the drums might be EQ'ed a bit and brought forward more. Were you using a MIDI pad for the drums? The vocals and overall performance were good! Anyway, it sounds good and you have made a good start on this song !
  24. Very nice indeed! It does have that southern rock edge but (IMHO) with a tinge of Yes mixed in. I enjoyed the lyrics, and the playing, vocals, and mix were all excellent (as per usual). I didn't know that you grew up in J-Ville. That certainly would contribute to the Allman Bros. influence in the song. Do you remember the Allman Bros. when they called themselves the Allan Joys? Way back when they used to have a friendly competition with the Nightcrawlers (Little Black Egg) from the Daytona area. Obviously the Bros. won that competition.

    Lone Wolf

Hi Steve! I always try to go into a song with a specific intent--- which is on rare occasions achieved. It was my intent to cop a feel of the 1950's definition of cool --- you know the raunchy rock, cool jazz, etc. feel. For example: If a building with a cafe was burning, people would normally go screaming out of the building. A 1950's Cool Cat, would first finish his coffee, come his hair (of course), and then grab his stuff and slowly walk out of the building. That was my intent but achievement of intent is rare for me (often going in a different direction). Thanks very much for listening and I always appreciate your suggestions and comments. Hi Gary! I would love to get together with some people just to jam but most of my friends that do music are into symphonic, jazz, folk and other forms of music that leave me in the dust. There is nothing like the person to person interaction. The need to earn a living and 60 hour work weeks put a lid on my musical interests until I retired. Thank you for taking the time to listen and especially for commenting. Hey Lynn. Thank you very much for your very kind words and encouragement. I have always found your comments and suggestions helpful my friend. I too always look forward to the new songs that you post!!
