  1. The developer of ins2map partially reverse engineered the drum map format and AFAIK did not publish the source to ins2map or his findings about the file format.
  2. If you cannot see the images on the website, refer to the user guide pdf. The "synth icon" is the icon used in track two of your post. The terms "instrument track" and "split instrument track" are part of the normalization of simple instrument tracks in the documentation. As I mentioned above an instrument track is a SIT. The relatively recent addition of "split instrument track" refers to the MIDI+audio track pair used by a synth. It could also be referred to as a MIDI+synth track pair but this is a little confusing. Remember the only track required for a synth plug-in is an audio track, in the form of an audio track (synth in the FX rack), synth track or the audio track in a (simple) instrument track. A synth plug-in must have an audio track even if it does not generate audio, however; the MIDI track is optional. Although it is very common for synth plug-ins have some type of MIDI track sending data to the plug-in.
  3. Yes, but if all one wants is a way to label MIDI note values, consider instrument definitions. Note names from instrument definitions may be used to replace the keyboard in the label pane left of the notes pane in the PRV. Instrument definitions may be built using the tools in Cakewalk or with a text editor and imported into the master instrument definition file (master.ins in the user directory). There are examples of instrument definition files in this part of the forum. Some were specifically created for drum synths such as EZDrummer 2, Superior Drummer 3, SI Drum Kit and Addictive Drums 2. And the good news is, even if one prefers to use drum maps instead of instrument definitions, the first step to creating a simple drum map from a text file uses the instrument definition layout. So, create and share both on the forum. There is a 3rd party tool called ins2map (it is in the Cakewalk Sonar section under Tools) that takes a simple instrument definition file to create a drum map. Information about this utility is available on the old forum in this thread.
  4. I am familiar with the term synth track as an alias for an audio track with a synth as its input; the documentation uses the terms "simple instrument track" and "instrument track" interchangeably (cf. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=SoftSynths.05.html for hundreds of examples search the user guide for instrument track). Using "instrument track" as an alias for synth track is confusing. On a slightly related subject, search the user guide for PVR and PRV.
  5. First make sure the FocusRite ASIO driver is installed. After that, make sure the FocusRite driver is the only entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO If there are others, they probably should be deleted. If in doubt post an image of this part of the registry. Then it may be possible to recover Cakewalk with a full personalization This process overwrites some files in "%appdata%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core" and resets some Cakewalk registry entries To run a full personalization, right-click the Cakewalk icon while holding down the CTRL key, click Open from the context menu It should show this dialog click OK. If all goes well, Cakewalk should locate and choose the FocusRite ASIO driver. Go through Cakewalk audio preferences and validate the entries. If the DAW crashes, look in "%appdata%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\MiniDumps" for a minidump and/or review the Windows Event log.
  6. The multi-timbral setting is in options Except for testing, I have never used the multi-timbral setting. I always used the First Synth Audio Output for DP but any of the audio options work with it. Instrument tracks only record MIDI data. They will display audio when the track is frozen. When using a MIDI+audio track pair, and unlike an instrument track, it is possible to enable waveform preview or actually record audio on the audio tracks without recording MIDI data. If the plug-in is making sound, there is MIDI data coming from somewhere and if the MIDI track record button is enabled, the MIDI data will be recorded. The exception being punch recording. When punch recording is enabled, MIDI will only be recorded as defined in the punch module but the waveform preview, if enabled, is always displayed.
  7. Here is one of the posts about alternate MIDI routing using a plug-in
  8. A normal audio clip has no notion of project tempo. A normal audio clip may be duplicated as many times as needed. Taking a look in SoundForge (I don't own ACID but SoundForge supports the format), I see two ACID types. The original ACID Loops used beat count, just like Cakewalk. The second is called an ACID Beatmapped allows adjusting tempo instead of beat count. The history of Groove Clips goes back some time, I am not sure if the Beatmapped type was around when Groove Clips were developed. Cakewalk treats both types of ACIDized files the same.

    Why BFD sucks

Generally, companies like Magix and inMusic acquire some of the manpower along with the code. The reason these products stagnate has more due to the business model of the acquiring companies than anything else.
  10. It's this simple. Sometimes CbB beat detection needs a little assistance from the user.
  11. The best way to get rid of expired demo plug-ins is uninstall them. The three "Sort by" layouts show all enabled plug-ins. The plug-in manager allows disabling plug-ins which effectively hides them but they still reside on disk and will be loaded in projects that reference them. Additionally, one may create custom layouts. The only downside to custom layouts is they must be manually maintained. The three "Sort by" layouts are built on the fly from all enabled plug-ins.
  12. The Add Track menu is a flyout dialog attached to the button and cannot be floated. There are multiple ways to add tracks and synths. All other methods of adding synths use the Insert Soft Synth Options dialog. This is a regular Windows dialog with more options than the Add Tracks menu Instrument tab.
  13. Something is preventing Cakewalk from completely shutting down, often either a badly behaved plug-in or audio driver. If there are any 32bit plug-ins in the project, suspect them first.
  14. The M1 native installer is a separate download available from user accounts. All VM versions now at 2.5.3
  15. If it works like Win10, removing the RealTek entry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO will leave the chip enabled for use by other Windows drivers while preventing access to the buggy ASIO driver.
  16. May be possible using Project 5 but I do not have it installed and cannot recall ever trying to edit the bundled files.
  17. I see no updates after this post from a couple of days ago
  18. Yes, Time/Pitch Stretch 2 works in 2022.02 But it does not appear in the menu. I had to open an older version of CbB prior to the new menu (I used 2020.11) to get the plug-in in the FX MRU list to test it in 2022.02 I did not attempt to install the plug-in manually, it installed along with X2, X3 and Platinum.
  19. Here is a bus FX rack context menu in English The DAW performs PDC recalculation when Effects racks are bypasses The audio engine is turned off and on The DAW does not inspect the state of every plug-in in every FX rack to determine if it should recalculate PDC. Of the plug-ins listed in this image I know the Cakewalk Adaptive Limiter covers PDC in its documentation on page 24 The size of the lookahead buffer is used by the DAW to determine the PDC needed for this plug-in.
  20. Turning plug-ins off does not cause the DAW to recalculate plug-in delay compensation. The DAW recalculates PDC when effects racks are bypassed and when the audio engine is reset.
  21. The basic workspace hides a lot of controls on track view track headers including volume. All the controls are visible in the track inspectors and, by default, on console view console strips. It is possible to temporarily override a workspaces effect on track view track header controls by modifying the track control manager drop down For a more permanent solution for track view track headers, select a different workspace, create a custom workspace or set workspaces to None.
