If you are using the Saffire, then the audio connections need to be made to the back of the Saffire and not the PC.

Writing the most recently used list is one of the last things CbB does before shutting down. If the program crashes the list does not get updated.

The VST Inventory tool gets its data from the CbB VST Inventory in the registry. This inventory is built by the CbB VST scanner. There is no attempt by the VST Inventory Tool to validate the data, that is the scanner's job. The SurgeEffectsBank VST3 in the image shows a pretty old version number and my guess is the file is not part of the current distribution. For a nightly build, it seems strange the version reported on the Surge VST2/3 plug-ins is older than the current production release. Also note Surge VST3 lacks a size. On my install the production version shows a size for this plug-ins. I thought the SurgeEffectsBank was provided for DAWs not supporting Surge as an FX. While the documentation claims Surge does not work as an effect in CbB, I have been able to use it in that capacity for some time. I tried asking the developer what did not work but never got a reply. My guess is this part of the documentation needs an update. Of course, this does nothing for those who depend on the SurgeEffectsBank plug-in but now may be a good time to stop using the dedicated effects plug-ins and use Surge instead.

These instructions are for SONAR Platinum. The setup is identical in CbB. https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/Audio-Hardware-Setup-Guide?productId=CSPT100&audioDeviceId=248

Yeah, sticking with VST2 when a working VST3 version is available is asking for future pain. Not all manufacturers add the VST2 to VST3 migration code to their VST2 plug-ins.

Often when audio cuts out periodically it is the result of a plug-in running in demo mode.

This is probably because Windows and Cakewalk are sharing the same audio interface and Windows and Cakewalk are set to different sample rates Cakewalk is set to WASAPI Exclusive driver mode

That depends on when the take lane was created. If the take lane was created before recording then it is not part of the undo operation, only the recording is undone. The key combination SPACE then CTRL+z and r will stop the transport (this will rewind if configured to do so otherwise CTRL+SPACE is the stop and rewind shortcut) undo the most recent operation (this will be the current recording and take lane if the lane was created during recording otherwise it will just be the recorded clip, either way it will heal previously recorded tracks) and start recording

Mis-labeling of interface inputs is a problem
scook replied to Starship Krupa's topic in Feedback Loop
The friendly names feature in preferences is the front end for updating this part of Aud.ini. There is no need to manipulate Aud.ini directly. -
While waiting for this change you could probably learn enough autohotkey to script a simple keybinding. For example here is a binding to Windows+r to send SPACE, CTRL+z and r to any application. #r:: send {Space}^zr

For decades Cakewalk has installed two folders in the system drive root directory Cakewalk Content Cakewalk Projects The rest of the application is installed on the system drive but these are the only two folders in the root. The old Cakewalk Command Center provides a way to move "Cakewalk Content" in the Path tab of Settings but a directory junction will do the same without having to mess with the registry. "Cakewalk Projects" is the default project folder. It may be modified in Preferences > File Locations, however; if the modified location cannot be found when the program starts up, the location in preferences will silently revert to the default path. This is why I use a directory junction to relocate this folder and leave the folder location in preferences set to the default. Regardless of where "Cakewalk Content" and "Cakewalk Projects" physically reside keep in mind, CbB and all previous Cakewalk DAWs must be installed on the same drive.

Change the output on the tracks to an aux track or bus.

If "N" is a problem, it may be disabled by setting the shortcut to "Do Nothing" in the Global Area in preferences.

No, audio and MIDI driver modes operate independently ASIO is an audio specification and has nothing to do with MIDI.

Click on the expert button and try switching the precision to non-linear.

No playback when recording audio and no metering audio input
scook replied to yondolash's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Patch points are not necessary for recording unless you want to record effects applied to tracks in real time. They are definitely not needed to record soft synths. For recording audio in real time using soft synths see https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=SoftSynths.27.html For now uninstall ASIO4All. Pick a computer and interface. If you decide to use the soundcraft mixer then setup CbB to use its driver and the appropriate driver mode If you decide to use the internal pc sound chip use one of the WASAPI driver modes. When you have settled on a computer and an interface provide details about the hardware and images of Preferences > Driver Settings and Playback and Recording. Start with a simple project using the Basic project template with one audio track and no plug-ins. When the transport stops unexpected, if there is a toast message with a drop out code. Please provide the code. -
No playback when recording audio and no metering audio input

Is input echo enabled? This is the button to the right of the record button in the track. -
Unexpected changes that happen after the transport stops may be the result of the per-project setting Zero Controllers When Play Stops
