Exactly. I love going down to my studio with the lights off and seeing all those (mostly blue) lights reflecting off my guitars and gear. But my working DAW theme has to be easy on my eyes.

Nice, couldn't help but to be reminded of our IT guys at work doing a live, full-lyric changed cover that started with "Blackberries Ringing in the Dead of Night" ... Timbo PS Love when robins feign that they're dead so as to lead you away from the nest. How did that behaviour evolve?

I enjoyed this track. Reminds me of Roger-less Floyd, which wasn't Floyd but the vibe in this song is definitely there. Nice work. A nice compressed solo would help kick it towards Total Floydism! Thanks for sharin, Timbo

Wow, this is terrific work! Excellent job on the video as well. Perfect.

Had it happen twice this week, I didn't have time to look at the possible weirdnesses.

End of the Cakewalk Road for me?
timboalogo replied to NoelBrutonMusic's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The topic, the topic ...! -
Scook, when they released 5 there was an upgrade path from 4 but not any more. John, that's a pretty nice sale on Assistant (which I use on my vox) and Editor (which I'd like to be able to afford). So for $29 you can go from Essential to a way better product. Just sayin' ... Timbo

Cakewalk Stays In Memory After Exit / Cannot Re-Launch
timboalogo replied to Adam Grossman's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I've had it happen if 1) samples haven't finished loading and I close the project or 2) a misbehaving plug-in and just right click on Cakewalk in Task Manager and close it manually. -
Problem with LOW frequencies too WIDE?
timboalogo replied to Marcello's topic in Production Techniques
Seriously, try Mr. Anderton's mid/side processing. An easy way is to find yourself an EQ plug in that does m/s (mid-side) and eq out all your side on the bass instrument(s) ... Voila you've got a tighter mix with room on the side for instruments, reverb, delays and the like. -
Switching between reference tracks and your mix

So much fun! Thanks to you, my ears are now in my shoes ... I can't hear my wife unless I undo my laces. Seriously considering wearing my Nikes to bed.

Had to give this a bump so it's back on Page 1, where it belongs.

Approximately 102 times faster than the Speed of Light
timboalogo replied to Wookiee's topic in Songs
I had to listen because the physics I took in university a couple of light years ago taught me that nothing goes faster than light, even if you're on a train travelling at light speed and throw something 102 times faster. But I digress. Thanks for showing me that my whole university education was full of shit. I do love electronica! And this was sooo early-Floyd-into-2021! Timbo -
Melodyne chrash. Think I found a culprit.
timboalogo replied to Anders Madsen's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi Anders, I can imagine my voice if I put 2 pitch correction plugs on it - it'd be nothing but pure gold! I guess it's not such a good idea to process your voice in that way, unless you are using these 2 on instrument tracks? Timbo PS = I enjoy your music, by the way. -
Great song! Love the bass sound! And the horns! Three things in my opinion: 1) the ez keys are a little too forward in the first verse 2) the kick has too much top end and not enough thump at 100 Hz or so 3) the mix is a little too wide IMO Excellent job on the guitar, it's hummin! And I love your voice in this one, really do. Timbo

That Mark is a pretty song! Sweeeet playing too - when I hear a guitarist like you I'm embarrassed to put my own playing up here. From a mix perspective, I was a bit overwhelmed by some of the acoustic in the intro, maybe you'd turned up the volume, but my ears told me it was a bit bassy. I think the snare could use a touch of a something to cut through the guitars and the bass drum could definitely use a boost because I'm not hearing it that well. But that is being nitpicky in the extreme because this was a lovely song. Tim

Yeah, that's Frank-like but better sounding than Frank's stuff, IMO! Thanks for sharing this.

Not autobiographical at all! I still have both legs. And thanks for the listens all!

Thanks for listening folks! Timbo

Audiosnap and other workflow issues
timboalogo replied to Craig Reeves's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I'm sorry for setting this thread off in the wrong direction with my reply, Craig. I didn't realize what level of user you are, nor did I mean anything when I suggested you go back to Abelton. I thought I saw that you were an Abelton user in the initial post. I agree that Cakewalk has bugs. I can still crash it, but it's hard to point the finger at Windows, Cakewalk, or the writer of the old 32 bit VST or VSTi I have loaded. As a user, I just learn from experience and try not to do the things that "set it off" and make it crash. In Home Studio 2004, I used to have to save every time I hit record! Whether there are more or less crashes in CW than in other DAW software is undetermined. I'd like someone who has used all the buggy DAW softare out there to list the problems and maybe we could determine where Cakewalk stands in the group. In the meantime, I appreciate how you've defended your argument and how Noel and the guys/gals have tried to respond. Continue the dialogue. Tim -
Thanks Bjorn! It was a fun song to do, 14th on the album so it was where the meat of the action was taking place. Poor lead character cut off his legs for robotic ones, all trying to escape his birth and upbringing. Timbo

Who is this u.k.jack c of which you speak? ?

Such a fun song! I like what you've done to your voice in this. Also impressed by the instrumentation/effects that you've added. Timbo

But here's a song that I've worked on awhile - it's all part of a rock opera that I've recorded. It's a story of a person born with parts of both genders. Please tell me what you think, good or bad! Timbo PS Got permission from the scientist who took this cool photo of a spider embryo!

Off topic but make sure that with your new antivirus that you exclude the locations of your virtual instruments and plugins (i.e. C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins and so on). Speeds up my project loading time anyway. Timbo
