Beautiful cover of a beautiful song Mark. You are something! If you really want a crit, it's that the lead vox is a little too far back in the mix. Maybe back off all the instruments just a touch and it would sit perfectly. I really like the bass sound and how you managed the mix without backing singers. Timbo

I don't think it's a "must", if you were recording properly you shouldn't have recorded the clicks and crackles in the first place. My 2 cents.

Artifact (Drywater, Mars Part 7) (Feedback Requested)
timboalogo replied to Amberwolf's topic in Songs
I think the female vox were too forward in the second half of the song, when things got exciting! As to the percussion, and I don't know how to explain myself, it's not so much the overall volume but the transients that aren't getting through and accenting the piece. Remember this is just my old ears, wait to see what others will say. Timbo -

Amberwolf, love what you've done with this idea. I know you and I discussed feedback, so here goes: it may just be my system and room but I'm not hearing the bass line very well. It also seems that the female vocals are a touch too forward while the percussion is too far back for my liking. I feel the percussion track has some great sounds to it but they're just not breaking through. Let's hear what others may say. Timbo -
Nice song, excellent mix! Perfect choice of snare. And a great bass guitar sound too. If I had to get nitpicky, I'd pick on the volume of the vox. There's times like @1:10 where the singer's lovely vocal volume drops a little too much. Maybe some automation would help. Songwise, you've got some nice change ups going on, one was unexpected @1:20 and sounded great ... And yeah, the sax is a beautiful addition - just the right amount of verb on it! The vox really has the sound of being tuned. Not in a bad way though. How did you pull it off? Is it doubled somehow? Thanks for sharing, Timbo

Promidi is ... the RegMan!

Wow, this is such a great piece Jeff. You mentioned in another thread that you were hesitant to to post your work here for review. There's absolutely no way that you should hesitate to post more, this was terrific! Bet it only took you one take, too ... Timbo

Nope ... ah, I see.

Apologies for my densitude, but isn't it the same as using, say, Melodyne to turn the audio into midi?

Treesha, This is my kind of song, not necessarily the Halloween theme, but the treatment. You did something very cool with the vox, sounds doubled somehow in a John Lennon sort of way. Regarding the video, I'm both amazed and frightened at what AI can pull off. Ten years down the road, I'll be scared sh$tless. Great work!

Cool tune, Wookie. I'm liking that snare!

Sounds cool! Any way to see or hear this in action? Timbo

Always been a fan of Michael's, and Fizzy Pickle has done an excellent cover! At this tempo I can actually understand the lyrics, like "there ain't no second chance against the thing with 40 eyes"! Plus, I never realized that there is a bit of reggae to this song. Great mix on this, the bass sounds most excellent. Nice singing job on the lead and backing vox, too. My sole complaint is a bit of sibilance on the lead vox, e.g. @ 40s. Props, Timbo

Thanks Kevin, are you referring to the rhythm guitar in the choruses or the distorted bass guitar in the verses and choruses? Timbo

[Solved] Cakewalk Sonar Bus Plugin Sound Difference
timboalogo replied to thegaltieribrothers's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
Jeez Jonesy, you outdid yourself on this one! So the aux tracks go at the bottom with the busses, right? -
And to FreeEarCandy, A love ballad this is not! That made me smile. I'm glad for the ears on this, I am looking into it. And to the Galtieri's: thanks for the listen! Timbo

Thanks for the listen, Tom. The song is ambiguously about hidden manipulators, ancient power, and the systemic rot of society. The farm is society — the people are livestock being worked and harvested and finally everything is salted and corrupted, including our bones. The crows cry “pain” as witnesses, laughing and mourning at the same time, I guess. Don't ask me where this stuff comes from. I agree with your brightening idea, I'll look into this Maag4 product, haven't heard of it before. Timbo

Walk-Away and End Titles -- (Drywater, Mars Part 6) (Feedback Requested)
timboalogo replied to Amberwolf's topic in Songs
I was talking about all the good low end sounds in the first part of the track. I find it interesting that your template is based on the sound that gets the least negative reviews! As for percussion, your method requires an excellent memory of the sounds you have and the patience to reassemble them as you like. Kudos to you for that. And yeah, that's a heckuva lot of drum tracks! More than my little brain can handle, let alone my DAW. Thanks for sharing the details, Timbo PS What do the acronyms ES, OHBB mean? -
Thanks, Daryl = stolen from Aqualung, I'm afraid

Treesha, FYI studio-central closed up shop a few years back when Tweak passed away. It was a special place. Some of the members here also post for review at homerecording.com ...

Walk-Away and End Titles -- (Drywater, Mars Part 6) (Feedback Requested)
timboalogo replied to Amberwolf's topic in Songs
Wow, I don't know how you put your mind into doing the end titles, but you nailed it! I could close my eyes and see the credits roll. You got some great bass sounds going in this that were very well eq'd indeed. And I am enamored with the drum kit, what did you use? I liked how you mixed up the snares. No complaints anywhere else. Timbo -
thanks to treesha and Amberwolf for your ears, First, I may have misconstrued what this sub-forum is about. The title says "Post links to your songs, share and discuss", and I shouldn't have expected mixing feedback since it is not intended to be a mixing clinic like on homerecording.com or Rich the Tweakhead's studio-central.com, where I originally came from. I'm hearing that the bass is crowding out the vocals and other instruments—thanks for pointing that out. That’s really helpful as I work on refining the mix. And Amberwolf, I had to smile when you mentioned that the song set off your tinnitus. I'm sorry to hear about your hearing issue, but I appreciate your honesty, and I’ll keep that in mind moving forward. Thanks again for your feedback—back to the drawing board! Best, Timbo

Thanks Makke for the listen! I was hoping to get some honest critiques of my mix, but it seems like people are asking if I’m happy with it instead of giving me their genuine feedback. I don't mind if folks don't like my song or genre but I do believe that even if a song isn’t in a popular genre, it still can be critiqued. I just want to improve and learn, so I hope this doesn’t upset anyone. As always, I'm looking forward to any honest, respectful feedback. Timbo
