  1. OK... So what am I missing here. I can get my articulation to work, but it doesn't return to normal or I have something set wrong. I've tried various chase modes etc, but once the key aftertouch articulation (Superior Drummer 3) is called as Articulation it doesn't release.

I can use Channel aftertouch as an envelope and the aftertouch returns to normal after the event,

I have been unable to get Channel aftertouch to work as an articulation. I'm missing something(s) here, yes? This is my first excursion into using articulations and their' maps so I'm sure to be missing a lot of understanding...

    Much thanks for anyone's time...

  2. Some strange stuff...

If I use a channel aftertouch (Key aftertouch doesn't appear available there) in an envelope, the mute happens and the notes that follow are back to normal.

If I use an articulation, Channel aftertouch does nothing and the key aftertouch doesn't release once invoked.

I basically understand the difference between the two types of aftertouch but I am confused at what's going on here...

  3. I hope this link works from my dropbox...

This is the newly updated (11/30/22) file in which the crash 2&4 as well as ride now perform correctly muting at start and unmuting at end.

Still can't get the hat working... any help here would be appreciated...

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/7fo74sy1y0gwsog/SupD3 Cymbal Mutes.zip?dl=0

Hmmm... Just learned that the articulation doesn't release after the event. I'll leave this up for anyone who might develop it further while I do my best to learn,

  4. OK... I bashed against it long enough.

I have created an articulation map for SD3 that evokes the aftertouch mute for Crash 2&4 as well as Ride.

So far unsuccessful at muting the hat. Any hints would be helpful. Nothing I've tried has succeeded yet. I'm bashing at this as I don't really know what I'm doing, but I have managed to get some the above mentioned working fine.

I will share it as soon as I see how...

There is also a mute articulation that you can apply that will silence a ringing cymbal and mute it like someone grabbing it.

Sounds handy. Will this mute a cymbal who’s note is finished while sustain continues?

The key aftertouch only activates during the note's length requiring drawing some very long notes.

Articulations. So I've finally found one I can use. Do you know where a list if articulations is available?

I’m facing a bit of a learning curve here for that as I used them sparingly long ago and haven’t approached Cake's articulation mapping yet

    ... edit

Hmmm. I see I need to find/create an articulation map for this? I have yet to find any mention of the defaults anywhere. None in the content forum here either. Learning curve is getting bigger. Off for more searching.

  6. Whew...

This one was just driving me crazy.

I finally learned about it from someone's video where he mentions it getting in his way.

Superior Drummer uses key aftertouch to execute cymbal mutes!

This is gonna be very useful here as I’ve been using volume automation to achieve this...

...just thought I’d pass it on for others who might not be aware of this.

    You bet!

But as I didn’t win, I’m hopeful for another chance! ?

...and uf that doesn’t win? I’m currently working on my next album which might make the following Grammy’s

  8. Hi Gang...

I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their' support.

As we all expected, I did not make the finals. It was fun dreaming though.

So in my heart I wish to say that "anything's possible". Who knows. One of these years it might be You walking up to receive an award. I sure hope so!

    For me?

    Thrilling ride and...

There's always next year. My NEW album (Hear Me Calling) is being released 11/23/22 and is in time to make the 2023 Grammy's!

    It ain’t over until...

    My humble gratitude

    Absolutely!

Nice way of saying it. I’ve been working at this issue for a while.

Even the ability to lasso a group of controller values to slide left/right or compact/expand.

A transform tool if must be but I was picturing it as simple as a dedicated command to allocate the lassoed data as selected and treat as group as would any selected notes currently?

  10. Strange... I seem to be at 1.14 and not getting any updates shown available?

Logging into my account online only shows a v2 that I can (will) install

Ha! Downloading and installing gave me v 3.01! So only the info page is in need of updating?

Well, since the issue seems to be split between so many DAWs, my gut tells me that the plugin may be doing something improperly. As with my earlier suggestion, opening a ticket with the plugin developer first to confirm its functionality may be faster, but that's up to you! KV331 Support has usually responded to me in a reasonable amount of time.

    You may be right.

I already filed the Cakewalk report. I’m too burnt right now but I will attempt contacting KV331 tomorrow.

     Thanks again.

@KeniOkay, just tried it with 3 more DAWs, whew! ?

Ableton Live 11 was the same as the other 3 DAWs that I tested, but Bitwig Studio 8-Track and Tracktion Waveform 12 Free saved the FX state with the project. No saving in the DAW's native preset format required.

So it appears that these last 2 are in the same category as @Starship Krupa's Mixcraft.

So here is the breakdown so far as tested...

DAW project saves SynthMaster Player preset FX state:

    • Mixcraft
    • Bitwig
    • Waveform

DAW project doesn't save SynthMaster Player preset FX state:

    • Cakewalk
    • Studio One
    • Reaper
    • Ableton Live

    Ugh!!! ?

Wow! Amazing work. So we see there’s some common issues going around.

Now for me to try remembering how to post a proper trouble report. I take it the Bakers are still doing things that way?

     Thanks ?

OK. I submitted a tech request. I guess that’s the path now? I also referred to this thread for them.

Well that indicates that Cakewalk is able to save the preset state of the plugin. Sounds like a plugin programming issue to me.

Could be. ...but could also be that two different routines are used in Cake. One saved with current settings (typically I change settings on synth and Cake remembers the changes without the need for me to save a preset. Doesn’t appear very necessary fir such a simple task. The other saving that data to a preset?

Okay, here are my results, and the 3 DAWs tested are all consistent.

    • Cakewalk
    • Studio One 5 Pro
    • Reaper

SynthMaster Player does not save the plugin FX settings, but the full SynthMaster 2 does save them (at least here).

IMO it's possibly a KV331 design intent to block the saving of effects settings in the preset as they are technically part of a preset that is blocked from edits while using the Player. I would open a support ticket with the KV331 support team first to confirm this.

I cannot understand why Mixcraft works differently with the Player on Starship's machine.

It might be a common programming technique used by some but not all...

BTW, I did save the patch with fx disabled as a preset in the Cakewalk frame. When I use it, the fx status is correctly returned (fx disabled)

I played around a bit more and everything recalls correctly so far for me, except the FX routing controls.

The correct preset, volume, macro knob settings, and the layer sends. But the FX routing controls (Global and Layer) always go back to what they were set at. That's probably not something I would normally worry about in a Player. But I cannot reproduce the lack of preset recall.

    Thanks abacab...

As it's happening with Starship too, it's not just my system. Some stuff does indeed get saved, but the simple task of muting the reverb and delay is where I discovered the issue. Closing and re-opening the project returns to the preset, not with these changes.

I tried this and you are correct, Cakewalk opens it with the parameters set to whatever the factory patch is.

What does work is saving your changes in Cakewalk's native patch system. The project will still load with the parameters set to whatever the SMP factory patch settings are, but at least you can recall your own changes.

This is obviously not acceptable, and seems to be a bug in Cakewalk. I tried the same thing in Mixcraft and it worked as expected, the project came up and the settings I changed in SMP pesisted.

Please report your findings to the developers. They've managed to fix similar issues with other plug-ins. I guess they haven't fixed it all the way yet.

As far as freebie ROMplers to replace it with, Arturia Analog Lab Lite has hundreds of sounds and may be had for free if you register at Soundbetter. https://soundbetter.com/. Analog Lab Lite is free directly from Arturia. Once you have these, you can also go to their store and find many more free sounds. I think you can still get Augmented Strings Intro for free there as well.

Of course there's also Sampletank CS, which comes with a plethora of useful sounds. Kontakt Start, with all of the sounds that come with Kontakt Player, is also a great way to fill out your ROMpler collection. Also A|A|S Swatches, but it doesn't allow any parameters to be edited.

But the important thing is to get Cakewalk to handle restoring Synthmaster parameters correctly.

    Thanks Starship...

I thought posting here would be enough. I guess I need to make a "real" problem report? I haven't done that in a while... I'll have to remember how... ?

I have many other synths including Analog Lab Lite. My issue here was simply a patch with an arpeggio I liked for the part... I have mostly duplicated it with a few other synths to further develop the sound/part. For the moment, I froze the Synthmaster part so I needn't worry (for the moment) on this project. I still don't have one synth  with an arpeggiator I actually like. I rarely use one, but... it was an accidental part discovery... ?

    • New Test:  Rebooted PC then booted CbB .
      • Opened up a few projects in my list of recently opened files (one at a time).
        • All opened with the floating Synth Rack.  ?
      • One at a time, I opened a handful of older projects (2005 - 2015).
        • All opened with the floating Synth Rack.  ?

I will defer to others who are more experienced with Screensets in case they can provide a solution. Other than a default Screenset, I don't actively use them. I will also defer to others who might know if some setting somewhere might have been changed.

Just for fun, I tried switching Screensets stored with a project from 2010.   With the "Float Rack" Workspace, Alt+9 brought up the floating rack. Same result with the default CbB Screensets (01-10) in the test projects.

Hope you can find a solution that fits your workflow.

Thanks fir all your work. I do appreciate it.

I do use Screensets a lot.

I remember reading about this. Not sure if this is the thread I read before or if there is another thread I might have read.

In either case, I tested a whole bunch of things including tweaking one of my Workspaces to have a floating Synth Rack. To test it I saved an open project in three states: (1) floating synth rack open before saving, (2) floating synth rack minimized before saving, and (3) floating synth rack closed before saving. After each, I closed CbB but didn't reboot my PC.  In all cases, Alt+9 either immediately brought up the floating rack or brought it up after a second Alt+9 keypress--possibly because the projected I tested with had a synth instrument within another synth instrument that might have hidden the synth rack with the first Alt+9 keypress.

    • Double checking now.
      • Opened all three test files (one at a time) using my 2022-04-06 Workspace.
        • This Workspace has the Multi Dock on the top with the Track View on the bottom.
        • In all three cases, the file opened with the Console and the Synth Rack as tabs in the Multi Dock.
      • Closed CbB.
      • Booted CbB.
      • Switched to my new (tweaked) Workspace: Float Rack.
      • Opened all three test files (again, one at a time).
        • I had several synths floating in such a way that I didn't see the Synth Rack when the project first opened.
        • When I closed the floating synths (or moved them out of the way), the Synth Rack was floating.

I will try to test tomorrow to see if this continues to work.

I think my test cases address this.  I tested the two Workspaces after saving the project (1) with the floating Synth Rack open, (2) with it minimized, and (3) with it closed.

    Wow. Very detailed. Thanks.

Mine is always the same. Even on different machines used over the years.

I don’t use Workspaces. I leave them set at none.

I don’t use the browser at all.

I only use the Multidock for Console and Melodyne .

I float the synth rack and open with alt-9. I close it from the upper right X (a la windows typical). I never minimize.

Without fail on every project, if the Synth Rack isn’t open when saved, it will be back in the browser.

Maybe there’s some setting I have inadvertently changed?

  19. Yeah, it's free... Has lots of power... But for me, it's currently a joke to work with. Of course it doesn't allow the actual sound patch editing, I understand. It does allow toggling fx on/off etc. That could work except I'm finding it does not retain any of the changes I make. Upon next open of the project, I'm forced to manually recall the preset (at least that part works). I am about to replace it in the project I was using it in as this is not acceptable for me.

If there's some way to change this behavior, I would appreciate the info but so far I've been unable to uncover any such.

It's also a very difficult program to locate sounds. Even with the extensive feature set they include for doing so. I am continually overwhelmed with the huge number of arpeddiations and one-key playable grooves. Nothing wrong with having them though I don't use them, but it's hard to locate the playable sounds!

OK... I've said my piece. Now to find something to replace it with...

  20. I wonder if anyone else cares about this. I've mentioned it many times and no one seems to...

Unless I leave it open and visible during a save, the synth rack always moves itself back into the browser without my doing so. Once the rack is closed it will continue to re-open properly during that same session, but once the file has been saved, the rack is back in the browser on next open.

This has been this way for so long I don't remember when I started discussing it!

Though a minor detail, it's a PITA to have to re-address this issue constantly. I don't want my rack in the browser. I prefer it floating.
