Hi Gang...
Please forgive me if this is too... forward, but I'm excited.
My last album released 11/23/21 has managed entry in the Grammy Awards.
If any of my friends out there are voting members I'm in two catagories.
The Album: Outside
The Artist: In Exile
General Catagory/Best Album
Entry #200
Rock/Best Rock Album
Entry #101You can hear segments of it's contents at https://inexile.hearnow.com/
All my albums are available on all major streaming sites (and then some) Under either In Exile or (older) The Outcast.
Know any voters? At my age this may be my last chance! ?
Many Thanks... Even gaining entry itself is a big award for me!
Oh, and did I mention? I have a NEW album coming out 11/23/22!
This one is called: Hear Me Calling
Thanks Again!

Hi Gang...
Surprise!
...or at least I am. I installed aplugin the other day (I think the new GK free version) and it installed a version of C++ (I couldn't read the specifics) and took the moment to check.
Low and behold. The Synth GFX are again working fine!
I'm guessing that some update overwrote some C++ version (or corrupted it) and this one fixed or replaced it... What a relief!

Yeah... I remember and had Project 5.
Probably still installed on one of my old machines in storage.
I vaguely remember when it ended and a number if it's devices were bundled with Sonar afterward. Many of the fx still appear in my plugins list. Probably from such bundle?
It was an interesting idea, but nothing in it really did much for me. I did have fun with P5 for a bit.

Yes, we had a number of conversations about this back around 2013/2014 (!) when this actually broke in X3b. It was fixed in X3c but you continued to report it not working. Possibly we never figured out that it was because you had changed the default binding but I thought we had.
Yup... very possible. No wonder it never got "fixed". ?
Right now, I’m just thrilled to have a few long-awaited fixes resolved at last! ?

Yes, the grid should continue to show because youre just disabling snap without disabling the PRV snap grid.
Ha!
You say that as if anything can be expected? I started talking about this years ago. So I’ve been suffering needlessly? This must have changed somewhat recently? It’s logical, but until now, disabling snap caused screen to lose time based grid lines.
What a relief!
-
Another new benefit I'm finding related to this...
When snap is disabled, the grid continues to be visible. Excellent!
I use them as visual reference points while editing and always disliked how they disappeared when snap (set at grid follows snap) was disabled... This too will be a help to me. I hope it's not just something snagged due to the change of shortcut binding? I only unbound the single entry...

You can't explcitily bind to 'Snap Toggle Extended'; you just have to clear any non-default binding you have and the default will be restored.
OK... That sounds easy... Doing it now! Thanks again!
Excellent! That worked at last!
I now remember that in some update N got assigned to something entirely different. That's when I reassigned it to N...

Can anyone suggest a place I can download the default bindings for CbB? I have only old Sonar bindings saved not thinking when I installed and updated to my customized bindings... Foolish human! ?

I think we've been through this a couple times before. Per the documentation:
"The Piano Roll view always obeys the global Snap to Grid on/off setting, even if you specify an independent snap resolution in the Piano Roll view."
What this is saying is that if Global Snap is off, PRV snap will also be off.
'N' is bound to 'Snap Toggle Extended' by default. If you've changed this default binding to 'Global Snap On/Off' the PRV snap on/off status will not follow the Global snap on/off.
Very likely... It's been frustrating me for a long time... This is some new news to me though and I will investigate. Thanks David
I did change the binding so I will see how that affects things. I changed it I'm sure, because it wasn't toggling snap in some manner...
OK... Why can't I find such a variable in either global or PRV keyboard bindings???
-
OK... Frustated in my search.
I do remember seeing such an item (follow global snap) somewhere... But for the life of me I've been unable to fine it in any drop down menu, Nor in Preferences snap settings, so I've also looked elsewhere such as in keyboard shortcuts, but it's not there either...
I guess I'm going blind faster than my eyes.... my brain too!
Can anyone offer any pointers?
Thanks! I'd love for this issue to go away. I do a lot of midi editing...
According to the help docs,
Note: The Inline Piano Roll always obeys the global snap resolution.
The only option seems to be to enable/disable PRV snap which overrides it... Again, I'm still stuck with multiple switches to totally enable/disable snap while in PRV...
Maybe what was being referred to was the grid follows snap resolution? Nah, that didn't change it either... It's plain and has been for quite some time on my machine. If there is a way to solve this, I still can't find it.
Using the N key only toggles global snap... not prv snap. That requires a mouse click away in the upper corner of the prv where the snap settings reside...
...goin' back to looking more for what I'm missing.
I tried adding "FollowGlobalSnap" to the cakewalk.ini with either a 0/1 setting... no change there either.PRV always requires mouse toggle separately from the N key which is set to toggle snap...
Still can't find any other options but I continue to search... Somebody please stop me if they know there currently is no way to do this...
Thanks...

Turn off your "follow global snap" setting in the PRV - under the file tab. I'm really lazy to make video right now, sorry | or | read the doucumentation how to disable this setting.
Everyone working in the PRV should know where to locate this.
Thanks Will...
I'll find it. I even remember seeing that setting before...

When I am editing, I typically have the Track View snap interval set fairly coarse, such as one measure, and the Piano Roll View (PRV) snap interval fairly fine, such as 1/16 note. I start with snap enabled for both Track View and Piano Roll View, but they are set to different snap intervals, and they respond accordingly.
To toggle snap on or off, I use the N key, which is assigned to Snap Toggle Extended (I think that was actually the original default). The N key simultaneously toggles snapping for both Track View and PRV, even if they are set to separate snap intervals. I never use the PRV control to disable snapping. Whether I am editing in the Track View or PRV, the N key is my single keystroke to toggle snapping on or off. Is this the functionality you are looking for?
Mine are typically the same and I too use the n key to enable/disable snap. But when I’m editing in the PRV snd hit the n key, PRV snap disables and the track is snapping to my global so I must manually disable that each time as well.
I work with my snap pretty light so I can usually do my tweaks without doing this, but sometimes...
-
It is still currently necessary to enable disable both global snap as well as PRV snap when working in PRV to turn snap on/off. If you simply disable PRV snap, the system reverts to using the global snap. A bit of a pain most of the time for me as I essentially never want to use my global values in the PRV. If I turn of PRV snap, I mean for snap to be off completely.
It would be nice. Maybe an option for off vs revert to global?

Sorry, I'm kind of new to this.
Windows 10 Pro 21H1 64bit (19043.2006). Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz. 12 GB ram. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.
I am currently using Cakewalk itself with MIDI tracks, no MIDI controller, no microphone, no Audio Interface.
I am running the latest Cakewalk build. I started with Decent Sampler (v1.6.3) VST3 but I think I switched to VST2 several days ago when trying to fix the issue. I just checked and VST3 still causes the same issue. I'm assuming because Cakewalk and my computer say they are 64bit that it's using 64bit Decent Sampler, but when I installed Decent Sampler I'm pretty sure it installed both 32bit and 64bit so I don't know.
Other plugins I have installed are BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover v1.5.0 VST3(which I just found out can also crash Cakewalk similar to DS), Love-Fi 2 Lite VST3, Kontakt VST3, Komplete Kontrol VST3, AlterEgo VST2/VST3, LABS v1.5.1 VST3, and sforzando VST2/VST3.
EDIT: After figuring out which DS plugin files were causing Cakewalk to crash via Event Viewer (with my dad's help), I removed them from the plugin folders, forcing Cakewalk to use the 32bit (VST2), which doesn't seem to cause it to crash anymore. So I'm guessing there is something wrong with the 64bit DS.
I believe decent sampler has some current issues . I’ve run into a number of problems with it myself. The last straw was when it prevented the project from opening. I’ve since stopped using it.

It's obvious you need a completely new, heavily over-powered DAW! ?
And, maybe, even a new guitar or synth! ?
I couldn’t agree more! ??

how does behave in another host?
That’s a thought. I'll see if I still have any other DAWs that allow vsti (entry level frequently as I don’t ever use these DAWs)
Thanks for the idea...

How about re-installing?
Thanks Wibbles...
I thought of that but I’m avoiding it as long as I can. This is an odd duck synth being long discontinued so I’m apprehensive...

I tried that immediately. Still the same. Same in blank new project...

I've been using this vsti for a long time... Obvious by it's age.... ?
I have just noticed something peculiar that has changed. It was not like this previously and I know of no updates or timers in the app...
Everything is working fine, except for visual representations. The knobs and switches never move though you can hear the changes that are being done and they continue to operate.
So... My question is does anyone know of some crazy timer or switch etc. that may be causing this? Just now thinking could it be a change in a C++ update somewhere?
<sheesh> new strangenesses never cease to occur! ?

Thank you all for your interest
I usually use the articulation pane function massively and I love it. This additional feature that I have indicated, as far as I am concerned, does not serve as much to indicate the key switches on the piano keys, as you rightly write for that there is already the articulation function, but rather to write down other things on the piano note keys. I'll give you an example, the first one that comes to mind. If you don't have in operation for various reasons (for example because you are outside with the laptop) a lighted NKS keyboard and you are doing notes corrections and insertions through the PRV, it would be useful to have the colored indications of the range extension that you have available for the instrument. In addition, you could also create various piano keys templates for orchestration in which you can indicate instruments range according to the ones used using different colors and also add on the piano key a text indicating which instrument the color zone is (copy this "customized piano roll definition" on multiple tracks and you can use it in PRV multitracks editing too, etc. These are only a few ideas there would be many other examples. You can adapt it to very different needs in a flexible way as you have colors and the two custom text zones (the maximum available in the tiny space) on the keys.
We already have this, maybe add a third option that open a configuration panel (as in my screenshot demo example) where you can create save and reload your piano keys settings (similar to the articulation pane)
The drum map is a totally different thing, also notes don't have duration
but maybe you mean drum map in "note names"
this could partially solve the name problem but even this is different from what I proposed, there aren't anymore the piano keys layout and the assignable color zones.
Yeah, i realized drum maps was wrong and added the keyboard note names afterwards as that was what I was really thinking. I wasn’t expecting to exactly replicate what you were asking for, only to think of work arounds..
-
It’s actually easy, but cumbersome...
On a track you wish to use a drum map, select it from the midi output widget on the track.
To create a new one or edit, there's an option to create in this same list.
I’m sure there are plenty of detailed instructions available. You can search this forum or YouTube etc.
...just thinking. I believe you can create a keyboard map. Right click on the PRV keyboard and you will find a list of available keyboard maps. These can be created at your whim as well. They may be more appropriate?
-
Couldn’t you use a drum map to accomplish this?
