Effective slow groove, with that all encompassing solo horn . . . enjoyed it on my Sunday listen, like I knew I would . . . great stuff, as always Wookiee !

I think this is a very accomplished piece of music, and well written, I remember you from the previous cakewalk site, glad to hear you here . . . orchestral parts sound very convincing to my ear, from my vantage point at lower left orchestra row 5 . . . mix wise, I thought the overall level should be a little bit higher, as I'm comparing to other online pieces I've been listening to tonight, but I guess you will master that later. Can't wait to hear the full piece when you complete it, and hope you will give us a link when you're done !

@mark skinner, @garybrun . . . I listened to this last night (headphones), so looks like you've updated the mix . . . first of all it's got that "classic" different guitars panned left and right thing that Mark does so well, and the recorded acoustic instruments are captured to perfection I think. From my memory of the previous listen I think the arrangement got a lot clearer, especially in the low end . . . bass guitar pops a lot more, and the tabla sounds really good and punchy. Certainly goes through a lot of moods, Indian jazz, mix collab sounds excellent, and you know I love that cello !

Hey Lynn . . . really liked listening to this one ! . . . and found that main chromatic guitar riff very unique (haven't heard something like that before) . . . also, really excellent catchy chorus vocals, and super clarity in the mix and panning *** . . . so much there really, powerful song overall.

Great video John ! If only Cakewalk could produce some helpful migration videos like yours ! But, alas, why would they, when they've got you to do it for them free of charge. I'm old enough to remember the days of Brandon and Seth doing the video introductions . . . hopefully, when they officially release it, there will be something video ? Just putting in a good word for you, because I really appreciate what you do on this forum sir !!

Like other DAWs, and previous Cakewalks (Sonar, Platinum iterations) . . . why not make them "sell" you on the new features. So, you buy it originally (maybe they will discount slightly for Platinum lifetime users, LOL) . . . then, the new versions they offer have new features and add-ons . . . you decide if you want the new tantalizing features, or not . . . if you get behind in your upgrades, it will cost more to catch up. If you wait too long, your OS and audio interface will become obsolete anyways. This way, they have to continuously improve the product in meaningful ways to remain DAW relevant, and competitive in the marketplace, everyone's a winner. . . . then I awoke from my dream to realize the subscription model makes the most sense from a business point of view, predictable revenues, dedicated customers. Only problem is "subscription" is just a jaded word in software sales . . . so, just present it as an old school "partnership" with the existing clients, since many are long time partners already. For the newcomers . . . just build it, and they will come.

We got a gig out of town at a country bar, but we only knew one country song, had to play it four times . . . afterwards we were loading up the van and a girl came up to me and excitingly said "how long have you been playing guitar" . . . I was the bass player. We finished the evening off by playing an original song . . . and that same girl said, "and what was that weird song at the end ?"

Jono . . . started out as problem with broadcast waves, then it turned into a problem with doing videos and notation, maybe it's the wrong DAW for your needs, or maybe you're expecting it do do more than it does. It's unfortunate that Cakewalk still even has video "capabilities", and staff view is a long way from notation software. If we focus on the broadcast waves issue in Export dialog . . . have you used the Export Preset "Clips - Broadcast Wave" ? . . . or, have you tried to save a preset specific for what you're needing to do ?

Hi Mark . . . Great energetic piece ! . . . liking this one a lot . . . you move between acoustic and electric guitar so smoothly here. You mentioned "Been playing with some vox", so, what about a theme of Country vs. City ? (acoustic is the country, electric is the city) Also, super harmonica playing, really enjoyed that. (sounds like you and FedEx totally delivered) Bruce

Nicely done, the feel is all there, some interesting interplay between the guitar and piano . . . yes, some vocals would really top this off . . . I hope you will develop the idea further into a full song with vocals, it really calls out for that !

Brilliantly done Barry ! Mix sounding great now . . . really enjoyed the Bridge part where you insert some nature against the traffic mayhem, the video really accents that . . . nice touch, sounds excellent, well written tune.

@John Vere . . . thanks so much John for listening and your comment. Yes, Mark heard my demo and thought this would work well as a Bluegrass song, and he was so right, and has the guitar chops to do it . . . glad you liked it, and I'll check out Blue Dogs. I was famous 30 years ago . . . I had an album that went plywood in my neighbourhood. (snare, kick, crash !!)

@subvibe, @jack c., @Old Joad, @Lynn Wilson . . . thanks so much for your responses, and glad you could have a listen . . . I'm trying to do a video of this one, which would be a first for me, got a story line together, so will try to post that in the near future.

Well conceived jack, good message in the lyric, lots on interesting parts and rhythms to it ...

Barry . . . it starts with that AM radio broadcast, then the vocals come in accentuating those very same AM radio frequencies., probably too much 1-5K. @garybrun suggestion will help this a lot. Interesting that the lyrics are all so clear to understand, but not pleasing to the ear in that middle range, it's a delicate balance. It is a bit different for you, more synth driven, than guitar driven . . . good song idea, and really liked the lyrics . . . fix that vocal mix, and you've got another winner !

Hi Wookiee . . . super symphony of synthesizers ! Lots of upbeat movement, with that air of danger lurking in the back, the familiar feeling we all know. From there to there, and here to here, and there to here, and here to there, and everything in between. Curious, are all the toys you list "in the box", or do you have a collection of old analog hardware synths in your studio ? (lurking in the back)

Hey all you Cakewalkers . . . here's another collaboration I've done with Mark Alan Skinner. I had this strumming acoustic guitar piece in my studio for a while , and just couldn't take it much further. Was trying to record a sampled mandolin part, which wasn't working right . . . so I sent a mix to Mark, who can actually play a mandolin ! Well, a few weeks go by and Mark recorded an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and an upright bass . . . yeah, that's me singing and strum whacking acoustic guitar in the background. What can I say, the piece was transformed. Let us know what you think, and how the mix translates . . .

Super upbeat song ! "Fostex" , now that's a long time ago, this sounds really good, and well mixed. Vocals are outstanding.
-
John and Kluane . . . what a great song ! . . . especially loved the main electric guitar riff that occurs throughout this piece, and the lyric . . . and what a great backstory John, in how you created this, wish I had a mentor like you when I was 14 ! . . . very well done, and much enjoyed.
-
Cool and stylish . . . and very well played ! (Alternating Current with the Kayak paddles, very nice) I think I want to hear more volume from that rhodes electric piano sound, especially in the intro part ? . . . always enjoy your stuff, and haven't heard you take that soprano sax out of the case much, what a great sound you've recorded.
-
Hey Andy . . . I think this is well composed, and enjoyed it very much ! Many comments above say "nice", but I'm hearing some great potential, even if this may be more of a demo idea mix, the song stands strong on it's own, and if you ever decided to record those harmony vocals in a different way this could be awesome. There are some Melodyne or Cakewalk tricks you could also use to get a more "natural" sound, like adding random deviations of pitch, timing etc . . . I actually really like the lyrics and main vocal melody + piano here very much !

Hi Gary . . . late to the party, but what a party it is . . . the song and the mix are excellent, I think the best sounding mix I've heard here in a while, and what a great band in Hobo Train you have to work with, just amazing . . .

Well played . . . and very catchy, many toes were tapping in my household, and even the cat woke up and looked around ! We were watching the pie, watching and waiting for something to happen . . . maybe make some pieces disappear to keep the video interesting ? Musically, it's all there . . . super smooth groove laid down, great sax work . . . good mix as well, and you've captured the saxes in the mid range very effectively.
