I've found, if you have a fairly good drum groove already . . . you can use the CAL script "Random Time" to very slightly alter drum kit pieces, so everything doesn't fall exactly on the bar lines . . . makes it sound more organic, like a drummer with only a few beers. If the drum groove is not there to begin with, not much can help.

Thank you bitflipper ! . . . long time Cakewalker, didn't know this shortcut was possible, nice nice nice, I will use this a lot for drum editing. -
If you're looking for some help, probably best to list some of your system specs, like what audio card, audio settings etc . . . and what plugins do you have engaged in your project that might cause this latency issue ?

Tom . . . really love this, classic, with a beautiful sounding recording, some excellent singing and guitar playing. Did the original sound this good ? Not even going to check, since it's been 50 years of technology advances. Congrats for keeping the past alive into the future !

Jack . . . if you're using ozone 9 for mastering . . . what are you using for an LUFS level ? . . . should be no more than -14.0 LUFS You should set a target of -14.0 LUFS, and make sure no individual tracks are clipping. I have to turn my volume way down, to listen to this compared to other tracks, mucho distorto mon amigo ! . . . but despite it all, there is a great song here waiting to shine through . . . please fix the levels.

Hey Bert . . . I was confused at first, played the Soundcloud version, then I noticed your newer mix was on the Soundclick link. Anyways, heard them both, and the newer Soundclick version is a way improved mix version ! I always loved this classic song, and you've certainly done it justice. It's much more polished this time around, glad you fixed the snare, and I think the vocals are balanced better too . . . etc Thanks for posting the new version here, it was interesting to compare the old and new, enjoyed listening to it very much . . . LOL, I was singing this driving in traffic the other day, but couldn't exactly remember the correct lyrics.

Nigel . . . this song and the recording are very well done, as I've come to expect from you, and you never let us down . . . kudos to the lead vocalist, thought this was a very strong performance. You've nailed that pro mix once again in this one . . . and since you asked . . . the video, well, I wasn't offended by it. The images are very strong in their attempt to tell the story of the song lyrics, I'm not sure I really connected to a story unfolding . . . but those images mixed with the lyrics and the song title certainly don't hold back anything in their expression. Not for the meek. I'm thinking the gal in the tub might be a bit much for parents watching with their kids, or innocent eyes, in this ever more politically correct society we're moving towards . . . but it's a great rocking music video that makes you think, so I enjoyed it for that.

Lynn, such a very cool song, . . . that opening acoustic guitar riff ( that you say you suck at) well, it is extremely hookfull, and you should get back to it a few times maybe throughout this ? I really like the bass guitar in this one, well played, or conceived, however it was done. I'll echo Tom (PhonoBrainer) . . . I hear no vocal allusion to "Born Again" ? . . . seems to be "I Don't Know" is the stand out Chorus line through this. The power of your voice really shines in this one as well . . . so much going on, need a few more listens, great stuff as always !

Hey Mark . . . I'll jump in and say you've posted another incredible project here ! I'm liking the drum stops through this, and how the guitars work with that, sounding very much like a live combo act. That electric solo at the end, well, c'mon, you're no slouch there either, nailed it very creatively. The intro and the ending are extremely well done in this piece. I know you just like us to find something in your mix to fix, but it's really hard, it just sounds so great, and flows like all your stuff . . . all I can say is your experiment with cello moved up an octave sounds tonally good, but maybe a little too smooth, since violins have more bite in the higher range ? . . . I mean, I don't hear the bite of the bows in the mix when you play staccato notes. Of course if you hadn't mentioned how you did this, I would be oblivious, so my listening enjoyment was nevertheless not compromised !

Thank you Bob . . . I appreciate your listen ! (I stopped by your Soundcloud yesterday, and found lots of great things there)

Hi Paul . . . thanks for stopping by to listen, and those positive comments !

Hi David . . . had a few listens, and really like the piece, it's got some interesting moments throughout. I don't mind the reverb wash for the instruments, but as Wookiee says, and as you allude to, maybe a bit too much on the lead vocals ? Call me old school, but I really had to struggle to clarify the lyrics, and yeah, I always want to know what a song is about, despite the genre. On my headphone listen, couldn't make out most of the lyrics, though, on my small speaker listen, I could hear a few more of the lines. Think you could just bring out the dry part of the lead vocals a bit more more . . . and it would help that first time listen by all who will hear this . . . and I hope it will be many, good luck !

Kurt, enjoyed this one a lot . . . nice gentle touch on the frets of your new guitar . . . ride cymbal adds just the right watery ambience. It's a beautiful thing you've captured here !
-
Steve . . . very interesting listen, and what a classic song you've posted here. Is that a twelve string guitar you're using here, or have you done some mix tricks to get a large guitar sound ? It's really well orchestrated, and seems like you have spent a lot of time and thought with this arrangement. I'm a big fan of pop songs with orchestral background support, so enjoyed this one a lot !

Hey Galtiers . . . nice likeable pop song, has a certain innocence to it. I like the vocal (and the harmonies) . . . I'll say when the thicker instrumentation comes in, you might want to pump up that nice round lead vocal, I lost it a bit there. Well done piece, overall a great sound to it, and ha' it sounds like you may fall in love again.

SupaReels . . . wow, an album, a stage production, a new kitchen, by the end of the year . . . now that is ambitious ! Just go for it man. I like what you have so far a lot . . . though, wish I could understand more of the opening narrative that sets it up . . . but I'm sure you'll fix that mix stuff as you go . . . are you going to post some progress mixes ? . . . please do ! I really like to see stuff like this evolve.

Appreciate it Lynn, glad you liked it.

Thanks for the listen John . . . lots of folks here liking the melody, now if I could only figure out what I did different in this one compared to the others ?
-
Well . . . it's billed as "rock song", and it certainly is that . . . took me back in time, when we used to crank the stereo on the weekend . . . however, tonight I had to dive for the volume fader (don't you have neighbours too ?) . . . you do realize it contravenes the internet loudness bylaws of 2021 don't you ? . . . well --> guess it's my own fault for clicking on that "rock song" button. Liked this, got my heart pumping.

Tom, was listening and watching this one again just now . . . seems you've improved and taken it to another level . . . if that was even possible . . . such excellent work ! -
Thanks for that Hidden Symmetry, glad you liked it.

@Bajan Blue Nigel, thanks for listening in . . . yes, I have a bass solution mapped out for this ! . . . thanks for your confirmation & help.
-
Thanks for this one Wookiee ! . . . it evokes a very positive feeling. Nice way to end my musical Sunday.

Very likeable, and nicely put together Steve . . . great sounds and melody themes, intertwines with the video images very well . . . and the causality of it all has lead to this mind expanding Cakewalk thread, where many have commented on universal existence. All I can add is that I don't believe we are dust in the wind, perhaps microscopic pebbles on an ever moving beach, where illusions and reality co-exist at the same time, in an infinite array of moments.
