  1. This has been a fun project! Our school band, Ad Astra (formed in 1973 when we were between the ages of 13 and 14 years old) decided to get together and record one of the songs that was written back in 1973. Two of the members now live abroad (Alan in London and John - Paul in New Zealand). As this is the 50th reunion since formation, they both made the effort to come over to South Africa and get together to redo this song.

We'd talked about getting together for a long time but we procrastinated and didn't do anything.

Our wake up call came about when we lost our good friend who joined as our singer due to Covid. This made us decide to make this happen. One never knows what's around the corner.

The version of the song in the intro was recorded live at one of our school concerts back in the 70's.

I have been down for over 2 weeks with Influenza A and am physically and emotionally exhausted.  The beauty of this brought me to tears at times.   Thank you.  Reunions are great!

Wow! Thank you for your comments! I'm really glad that the song had such a great effect on you!

I hope you're feeling much better!

    Cheers!

Peter, as usual this one flowed like water over glass.  Beautiful melody's , you make it look so easy ..  Congrats on your reunion . I had one a while back with some old mates , we are really spread out now , and not a lot of us left .. Enjoyed it ..  mark

Thanks Mark. Yes, that's the reason we did it. We really don't know if we'll get another chance to do it again.

Real quality feel to this one, so well played and conceived . . . enjoyed it very much, just don't make it another 40 years to play together again !

Thanks noynekker, yes, I don't know if or when it'll ever happen again. Just glad we were able to do it at all.

    Thanks Olaf!

  6. Thanks so much for the comments guys!

To answer your question Nigel, I have three Sony HD video cameras which I place around the studio when I know I'm going to record various instruments.

To be perfectly honest, I don't spend as much time as should with the camera placement etc as I'm more concerned with the actual performances of the recordings.

If only I had another pair of hands to be a kind of "roving" camera that would be great. It is nice to have three views of each instrument though!

    Cheers!

  7. I've known David Myers for many years and never knew that he played piano. He mentioned one day that he'd like to record one of his original tracks and asked if I'd produce it.

I was completely blown away by his composition and playing. This has been a most enjoyable project and I hope there'll be more like this from him.

As usual, we filmed the sessions...

Well, if you are trying to go by what Jacques suggests, render with Elastique Pro.

I did try Elastique Pro and the result was unusable. Audio artifacts everywhere.

I remember when Sonar closed down before Bandlab took over, I tried Samplitude Pro.

I couldn't warm to it but I have to say that the time stretching in Samplitude was excellent.  No artifacts, glitches etc. The funny thing is that it also used the Elastique algorithm.
