Deskew releases Gig Performer 4.5 - Plugin hosting software
ALC replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
At that point, I’ve clicked on different variations and undo is no longer available. I didn’t mean to imply that no attention wasn’t paid to the GUI. Just wanted to point out a pain point from my experience and a suggested solution. The consistent misalignment I see in the templates, gig files, and panels point to a different priority w.r.t. GUI quality. They're not difficult things to fix (but admitted may be time consuming), but do require an awareness of GUI consistency. You’re not responsible for the ones others make but certainly the ones that end up in templates. I know software development is a matter of ongoing prioritization of limited resources. I do appreciate the incredible pace of development. Thanks. That’s all I ask. Hopefully, it won’t be too low on the priority list. And that my explanation helped nudge it higher. Thanks for making Gig Performer. I hope to one day be able to contribute panels of my own. -

Great to hear! I'm aware of the alignment functions, but it's still rather painful to align everything across an entire panel if there are multiple groups of widgets. The following is from the Keyboards -> Piano, Organ, Stage template, under Stage + Effects. Notice the inconsistent spacing between each grouping. The space between Tremelo and Chorus and Chorus and Reverb are not the same, off by a pixel, and between Reverb and Drive, and Drive and EQ, are also different. A snap to grid would make it much easier to make consistent sizes of elements without needing to actually duplicate widgets. Here's Bass -> Classic Bass: The bottom of Amp Gain and Compressor backgrounds (shapes) are a pixel higher than those of EQ and Amp Out Level. For the alignment tools, without being able to group elements together, it's difficult to easily align everything. If you want to redistribute the shapes, the widgets are not locked onto the shapes they're on top of, so you'll have to manually fix the widgets after the fact. If I try to redistribute the shapes, it redistributes the centers and not the spacing between the shapes. Also the knobs for Amp Gain and Amp Out Level and the switch for Compressor are not centered within each "shape" it's sitting atop of. And the label for Compressor doesn't line up with the labels for the rest of the widgets. I think adding a snap to grid would be the easiest feature to add which would make building consistent and good looking interfaces easier. If I have a number of panels that are duplicated, but I accidentally move a widget in one of them, it's very difficult to move it back to the original spot (without undo). The following is from PA's Guitar -> Electric Guitar template: I know it's not from Deskew (it's on PA) but it's representative of many of the templates, but from my attempts to build my own rackspaces, to make everything looking right (like not a prototype) takes more work than it should. That said, I've been impressed with the functionality of Gig Performer. A little attention to the GUI would improve the overall spit and polish of the app. Thanks. -
Purchased the upgrade. Thanks all who provided input.

Deskew releases Gig Performer 4.5 - Plugin hosting software

I appreciate when a developer is active, listening to customers, even on a non-support forum. Thanks, David. While I've got your ear, I'd like to add: Another request for tags based sorting/selection of plugins (you already proposed this solution, which I would agree with). Snap to grid for panel editor (right now, when even the example panels are irregularly spaced, it just looks amateurish, and it's not easy to get all interface elements lined up). Compare with the quality of the GUIs in MTurboAmp. Thanks for developing such a solid and powerful performance platform. -

You seem knowledgeable. How long have you been using Gig Performer and how have you been using it? What do you like about it and what can be improved? I’m still coming up to speed on using GP4 and sharing my discoveries along the way. The templates are useful as a vendor showcase of features. I wish there were a way to change the default templates to have user templates. I’ve been reading up on GP on https://community.gigperformer.com. -

The PA version also allows activation on both Windows and Mac (3 total, I think, though not 3 + 3). I’m happy to be able to use it on both operating systems. -
Hopefully, they'll update all their apps to be M1 Native soon.

Both Crucial and Samsung are good brands. Samsung may have slightly better performance but at a higher price. But both are reliable (my most important criteria). https://premiumbuilds.com/comparisons/crucial-mx500-vs-samsung-860-evo/ https://ssdsphere.com/crucial-mx500-vs-samsung-870-evo/ I've purchased both brands.

Having recently purchased MTurboAmp as well as Gig Performer 4 PA, I have to say that I'm impressed with the graphics on MTurboAmp, but not so much with GP4 (many visual elements being out of alignment). I know doing any sort of visual design can be time consuming, so I appreciate things that are nice looking. In terms of the visuals, I like AmpliTube and Nembrini amps that try to preserve the look of the original amps (for the most part). MTurboAmp is below those, though it's still visually pleasant to look at. For GP4 PA, they probably had a deadline of a month to publish the release, but the templates are lacking refinement (and the toolkit doesn't make it easy to keep everything aligned). If only GP4 had the graphical toolkit that MTurboAmp has ...

I was able to merge the two gp.templates files. I just copied the contents between <GPTEMPLATEBUNDLE> and </GPTEMPLATEBUNDLE> to right before </GPTEMPLATEBUNDLE> of the other file. Then I searched for "<CATEGORY" (starting with the 2nd "Guitar") and prepended "PA " to the title. This resulted in Keyboards/Guitar/Bass/Vocals/Cool-Stuff/PA Guitar/PA Bass/PA Keyboards/PA Vocals/PA FOH top level template categories. On my Mac, doing testing on the templates, I discovered that only TH-U VST (and not AU or VST3) was installed, so I had to enable it to make the Deskew Guitar templates work (I usually disable the AU and VST plugins if VST3 works). Update: same on Windows. GP installer only installs TH-U VST and not VST3. If you download the TH-U (eval) package from Overlord, you can install the standalone TH-U and VST3 plugin. -

Thanks! I had found the PA gp.templates but didn't find the other one. Looks like the file is XML, so it's just a matter of merging the two. I would just leave the Deskew version in place since the size of the app itself without the dependencies is relatively small. -

Since I’m able to load it up in the PA version, it doesn’t depend upon the authorization of the Dealer version. As long as you have the dependencies installed (TH-U, Lost in 70s), then the gig files should work. Good idea re: merging the template. I couldn’t find the Template file for the Deskew version. Let me know what path it’s at. -

On MacOS, you can create aggregate devices (supported by the OS). On Windows, it's not so simple (i.e. maybe, if you have identical devices using the same driver that has support for multiple devices, or you use one device just for input and the other just for output). https://gigperformer.com/docs/userguide/optionsaudiosetup.html -

BTW, the Deskew version of Gig Performer installs: TH-U Gig Performer (guitar amp) Lostin70s BassDeluxe1 (bass amp) DevilSpring (spring reverb) HaNonB70 (organ) ModernDeluxe2 (guitar amp) Keysofthe70s (keys) ToneDeluxe2 (guitar amp) The PA version installs none of the above--it uses PA's plugins, so if you don't have the plugin, the template is broken. It may be worth installing the Deskew version to get the original templates. During the evaluation, I loaded all the templates and resaved them as gig files that I can load in the PA version. I find that the templates are a bit more developed (GUI-wise) than the PA templates (at least w.r.t. the global rack). Nevertheless, getting Gig Performer from PA was a great bargain (when I finally was able to snag it at $30.99). Much better than $199 direct from Deskew. -
Thanks for the overview. So, how does it compare with Cherry Audio Voltage Modular and its ecosystem?

Likewise, I discovered I have it already. Finally looking at it now. Snap Heap looks like an effects rack like MixBox and Guitar Rig. It does seem well designed--with a fairly clean, functional, and spartan GUI (reminds me of Ableton Live). I've been learning about effects starting with AmpliTube and Guitar Rig in the context of guitar effects, but seeing how effects are used in SampleTank and Syntronik and then MixBox has helped me better understand the overall concepts. I find it useful to look at preset effects chains to learn how others are using the effects. Having another source of effects presets is great for education.

I’m contemplating using my Forever $29 voucher on Neoverb. Any thoughts on it? I already have PhoenixVerb, Excalibur, Nimbus, and R4 (but none are M1 Native).
-
Purchased SSSR expansion for $6.99. Going to play around with MixBox within Gig Performer hosting amp sims, and SSSR providing reverb.
-
If you already have MixBox and are trying to get SSSR expansion, use this link: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/index.php?A=mixbox-collection-sunset&R=INIT
-
I'm reading that those who bought the SSSR MixBox expansion pack got it unlocked in the iOS version as well. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/1095303/#Comment_1095303 Update: confirmed—SSSR now appears in MixBox iOS for me.
-
With the purchase of hardware, IK has been giving away free bonus software titles of your choice (all SE versions). I expect MixBox will be added to the list.

Depends on what you're looking for. I got the following, but I'm mainly looking for unique non high gain amps that aren't covered by AmpliTube and Amp Room. Faceman (Fender Bassman) Hivolt (Hiwatt) BG Extasy (Bogner) Voice DC30 (VOX AC30) Sound Master (Fender Tone Master)

I ended up picking up MTurboAmp. I just discovered that Melda has MConvolutionEZ which is their IR loader. Nice and simple since I'm just loading up IRs from OwnHammer. I'll give it a run to see if it'll replace my other IR loaders. Update: MConvolutionEZ is one of the few simple IR loaders that are M1 Native. It wins out for now.
