Kult - new Dawesome synth coming up - update: released
locrian replied to Sander Verstraten's topic in Deals
I just discovered a very serious flaw with this synth. After going through all the patches I realized I had toggled half of them as my favorites! The sounds this thing produces are so thick and delightfully weird that it's hard to stop playing with it. So that's the flaw: it's very addictive! -

Please be patient while the little code elves hand craft one for you. They sleep all day and work just one hour each night. You certainly don't expect this sort of thing to be done automatically in 2022, do you? Sure, we've landed men on the moon, mapped the human genome, and can packed billions of transistors on a chip of silicon the size of your thumb nail, but those were mere cakewalks compared to generating a code. -

Neither could I! -
For those interested, the link to the legacy downloader is working again: https://kilohearts.com/docs/download_and_installation#khs_one

I picked-up Modular City. Just a heads-up, most of the 121 presets are five versions of the same sound. So, it's like you're really getting ~24 different sounds. Not bad for a freebie.
-
Oh no! You're right. Thanks for the heads-up. I just emailed support and asked them to please fix the link. Cheers...

Actually, you can click past the removal option in the installer (which you should do if you want to keep that plugin b/c the link to the dedicated installer for KHz One is broken).

Culling my plugins ... pruning subs and direct debits .. it adds up

Some do like those from IKM and Acustica. The size of the latter -- which were all freebies except one -- takes up ~20GB of space! -

I seldom use loops in my music, so Loopcloud would be of no value to me. But thanks for the suggestion. Cheers... -

You 'll free up storage space and your DAW's plugin scans will be quicker. -

I did the same thing last year for the same reasons as you and it was definitely worth the effort. My specific focus was to cull thing downs to mainly the large plugin providers (Waves, PA, NI, UVI, Melda, iZotope,...) and maintain as few plugins from the smaller companies. Like you, I now am working much more efficiently. Best of all, updating is much easier and faster now b/c, consolidating to mostly the large plugin providers means I can run fewer installers and update more plugins than before. -
If you have time, try Autoruns (it's free). You may be surprised at how much stuff is running on your system without your knowledge. The reason is that despite unclicking the option to run at startup, some companies ignore your preference and install their software anayway. Worse still, others don't even ask leaving you to discover it on your own. I regularly run Autoruns everytime after installing a program or performing a Windows update. I've been using it for more than a decade and would say that it's the most useful tool in setting up and maintaining a lean music studio computer. It's always the first program I install when setting up a new system.
-
Thanks. But the list of programs you can control via Settings is tiny compared to that which can be controlled with Autoruns (the exception being Windows Apps which I just delete via WPD).
-
It's not the installer that's the problem for me. As you can see from the screenshot of my Start menu below, I already have many of those! What I don't like is when these programs boot with Windows and continue to run in the background. And this one in particular is a Windows App, so I wasn't able to disable it with Autoruns (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns). Cheers...

FYI it installs: Muse Hub Background Service (c:\program files\windowsapps\muse.musehub_1.0.0.624_x64__rb9pth70m6nz6\muse.service.exe)

I just heard about Hertz Drums for the first time, so I know nothing about them or the company behind them. Their site claims that the Mini Bundle is currently selling at its lowest price ($73.99) which seems reasonable. So I have two questions: 1. Has anyone here ever used these drums? If so, what do you think about them? 2. Is the $73.99 price for the bundle really a deal, or is that just the regular price? https://hertzinstruments.com/hertz-products/hertz-drums-mini-bundle/

Soundpaint New Aleatoric String Orchestra ($50) Available Now!
locrian replied to Larry Shelby's topic in Deals
I've never owned any of the (old) Kontakt-based 8dio libraries, so I don't know how easy they are to use. But I do own a few Soundpaint libraries and they definitely are very easy to use. The GUI is well thought-out and most things are just a mouse click away. Patch load times are very short. The sound quality, however, is another story. While certainly not bad, few of the patches are what I'd call inspiring. Most sound kind of 'thin' to me. This is not a general comment about all the libraries, but just for the few I own. But based on my experience with them, I have no plans to buy more. And this is especially true for the (free) 1928 Steinway which seems way out of tune and has several notes with jarring phasing issues. There's been a lot of hype about Soundpaint -- and maybe one day it will progress to the point where its performance warrants the hype -- but I don't think it's there yet. -
I paid ~$41 for the original version at Plugin Discounts about two years ago. It's one of the few plugins I've bought but never used in a song. I pull it out from time to time to see if I can find a use for it, but it hasn't happened yet. There's nothing wrong with the plugin; it works fine. I just haven't found a use for it yet. But I'll keep trying...

I was looking for a modern/cinematic drum library to augment NI Action Strikes (I've used most of those loops already). I was planning to get UVI Asteroid, but had applied the "SNOW" code to get UVI Qudra (which I'm really digging BTW; thanks to @Brian Lawler for posting that code!). I also picked up Aleatoric Metamorphic Movement for free which has a few very useable sounds. And both were just $6.60 (b/c I had some unused BestCoin).
