Anyone mention the Rockford Files yet?

Does the song start at measure 1? It looks like it does, but hard to see. In the old days, especially when using soft synths, it was a good idea to start the recording at a later measure, like 2 or 4. That theoretically gave the synth a chance to 'warm up' before having to play rather than having to jump right in before it was ready. If you want to try that, place the Now time at measure 1 and go to Insert>Time>Measures and add a few measures. That should move everything in the project over the specified amount. Just Undo if it doesn't work.

Going for the radio-friendly short song? ?

I have always used lightweight off-the-shelf computers. I wouldn't know what to do with more than 4 GB of RAM. So I use no soft synths or VST effects while recording, just the MIDI from my keyboard and audio from the interface. I add the VSTs later, but sparingly, because I don't know what I'm doing. ? I monitor from a mixer, which has effects so I can add a little reverb if I want. That way, I can hear everything in synchrony without latency. Here is a simple diagram of my routing: All audio sources I want to record are plugged into the interface, guitar, mic, cassette deck, etc. Yes I still have a cassette deck. And a VCR. Phonograph, too.

A bit of advice my brother Mike gave me about 48 years ago which has helped me to not obsess over minor (or major) things: "Just play the damn thing!". -

"I know Strummy, Ed, craigb, Kenny, ensconced, paulo, the other Ed, Mesh, Wibbles, S.L.I.P. , Gswitz " Not even an honourable mention. And I'm the only one here who has met your nephew. ☹️

It's normal to up the buffer size during playback to prevent glitches with high-plug-in-count projects. Where a low buffer counts is when recording so you can hear what you're recording in sync with the playback. You probably already know all that.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like the perfect case for using Freeze or Bounce to Tracks. Maybe save the project under a new name then try out the 2 different approaches to lessen the processor load.

You can set your system to use the Focusrite with Cakewalk and the onboard sound card for Windows sounds. If your sound chip is a RealTek, it has "enhancements", one of which includes EQ with many presets.

It could be that those clips are selected or muted, maybe even locked.

If it's a groove clip, the only way I see is to undo looping, make the change in the first clip and groove clip/drag it out again. If you copy/paste instead, there is an option in the copy dialogue to link or unlink clips. That enables you to make a change in one clip and it will change all the clips. Be careful, though; you could end up with a mess.

I have a 5X9 studio. Does that count?

It looks like there is a 'direct monitor' button on the front and a monitor knob to adjust how much input and output you hear. There may also be a software mixer to set your ins and outs.

Hey, Marc. I went to high school in Fayetteville, although in the early seventies we called it Fayette-Nam. Now in Raleigh.

Thanks, scook. I'll try to remember. ?

Or, he's always going to have a job. -
Not if your current interface uses ASIO. You can try changing the driver mode to WASAPI or possibly WDM or MME and use both devices, but there will probably be unacceptable latency.
