  1. Welcome to the forum. First some info from you. How is the kit connected to the computer? Direct via USB? With MIDI through an interface? Telekinesis? ? If by USB, did you have to download a driver for the cable and was it recognized by Windows and Cakewalk? If through an interface, did you download and install the proper drivers for that interface? Were they recognized by Windows and Cakewalk? The kit must play through a MIDI track. What input options do you have for your MIDI tracks? They should be the USB cable or the interface. Is the MIDI track's output set to the VSTis input? It seems like you may know much of this, so let us know what you've tried already and maybe we can offer some more ideas.
  2. Where can I get one of those?
  3. I thought I remembered seeing a control to "Don't Use Take Lanes", but that may have been several iterations ago. Or wishful thinking.
  4. If I understand you correctly, set this to All.
  5. I remember an interview with him from decades ago when he said he had to get into music to get girls, because he looked "like a pear with a Brillo pad on top". He was a cool guy and wrote the ultimate anti-establishment song "Almost Cut My Hair" (see above). My brother Mike and I played and sang many Byrds and CSNY songs back then. Loved the harmonies. 4 Way Street was a favorite album. RIP.
  6. Oh, and make sure the audio file is in an audio track and not a MIDI track.
  7. First, click P on the computer keyboard. Find where it lists Playback and Recording Master. What is listed for playback? Set the output of the audio track to the same thing. Can you hear it now?
  8. Keith Emerson.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Almost 2 days and no responses. I'll give it a try. Before you inserted a software synthesizer (VSTi), did you hear anything while writing MIDI notes? What were you using to hear the notes? A MIDI keyboard? Microsoft's GS Wavetable synth? What is the MIDI track's output set to? It must be set to the VSTi. What is the VSTi's output set to? It must be set to a valid output; if it's set to S/PDIF Output 1 and you don't have anything connected to the S/PDIF output, you won't hear anything. Do you have an audio interface or are you using the computer's sound chip? Any audio must be channelled through whichever you're using. What is your computer's operating system?
  10. For 1 track? Point the output of the MIDI track to a different synth.
  11. Or, as I do, don't use take lanes. ?
  12. The army has a vehicle that can carry a squad's gear and follow them wherever they go on foot, stopping and starting when the troops do. I saw a baby carriage (pram) on the news last week that will follow the parents, stopping and starting as they go. I would never use one of those, but I'm sure many parents will. I imagine a speaker that, when the gig is done, you just press a button and it rolls itself out to the van and loads itself in it. Like R2D2.
  13. I started with Cakewalk's Music Creator 2003, then CWMC Pro 24 and my most-used DAW, Cakewalk's SONAR Home Studio 6 XL. They were all pretty similar, functionally. When Music Creator 6 came out, Cakewalk gave me a copy (thanks, Cakewalk!), presumably so I would use it and comment about it in the MC forum, in which I was active. I couldn't get used to the new ways of doing things and never really utilized it to its full potential. I've had CbB for several years, but am still using SHS 6 on my ancient computer, but am trying to digest as much info about it as I can here for that day...
  14. Can you set it to save versions to an external drive?

    Fades don't work

I would. Eventually, you're going to have to render all your MIDI to audio if you want to listen to the song on anything other than your computer. In fact, I render almost as soon as I record, just to eliminate cumulative soft synth slowdowns (on my old computer).
  16. I wonder if this setting will affect Melodyne notifications?
  17. Have you tried using the Insert menu at the top instead of putting it in the effects bin? That's so 2002.
  18. Wow. Another one gone. Saw him ~1981 in Santa Barbara. Great show.
  19. Do you mean the DAW known as Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) or the phone app Bandlab? Windows updates often change your settings without warning. Did you check the inputs to the track you're recording to?
  20. Sound Blaster Extigy. A good box, one I used from '02 until '05 when I upgraded to a Focusrite Saffire.
  21. As easy as clicking a few buttons. You can Bounce to Track each MIDI/VST track creating an all-audio project, archiving each track you don't want to use, or Bounce the entire project to a single audio track, which I think would be simplest. That way you can archive all the other tracks, but still have them available for change in the same project.
  22. Learned "Strutter" with this band I played with in high school. I had no idea it was KISS.
  23. Glad you got it working and welcome to the forum. Why are you using 96 kHz?
  24. Personal preference, of course, but that's one of the first things I turn off.
