What Recording Software Will You Be Upgrading?
57Gregy replied to Tim Smith's topic in The Coffee House
Go ahead. The first one is free. -
Wouldn't that make you a good comedian? ?

There are many threads here about installing old and new Cakewalk products and the best method to do that. If you ever purchased and registered SONAR Platinum and created a 'single sign on' when the old Cakewalk went out of business, you can download it from the Cakewalk Command Center (CCC) after you've logged in with those old credentials. That's if you want the VSTs and VSTis included with Platinum. Or if you just like it better. Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) is an updated, supported and continuously developed continuation of SONAR. Preferably, you should remove all traces of CbB from your system before re-installing SONAR, then install CbB again so it will 'see' those SONAR VSTs. Doing it in reverse may miss some important things from SONAR. Look around a bit and find those threads with the how-to instructions, then you will (should) be able to have and use both.

Do you want SONAR Platinum to open, or are you getting that while trying to open Cakewalk by Bandlab, whose forum this is?

Even on weekends.

If only it was that easy.

How does CbB stack up against other "Pay to Play" DAWS?

I also am a hobbyist. I began with buying a Yamaha keyboard with drum sounds included, a 4-track TASCAM cassette recorder and some guitars so I could record some of my songs. Then my brother the programmer suggested I try a computer program. He thought it would be easier. So, I bought Cakewalk's Music Creator 2003, which was MC 2 with a MIDI-to-MPU 401 game port cable. The TASCAM has been in a box ever since then, except for a couple remote recordings I needed to do. I use almost no plug-ins, EQ, et cetera (although I've been told a few times some more mastering would be helpful) since my hearing is so bad I can't tell the difference and all I want to do is get my music arranged and recorded. I have a simple layout for my starting template, I try to keep things simple for my simple mind. -
Edit your post and add 'solved' to the title.

I will usually Bounce my tracks to a single stereo track within the project, to check that everything I want is there and the length of the song is right. Then I export that mix, making sure it doesn't flow through any effects or other processing while exporting.

Ten thousand dollars.

Don't do that. Someone with the same problem may check the forum for a solution and find yours, which is the easiest fix. You can't delete it anyway. Edit the post and add "Solved" to the thread title.

In that case, ensure that all the device's inputs are seen by Cakewalk in Preferences and you should be able to select separate inputs for each track and record as you are trying to do. I do it all the time, recording my acoustic guitar with a microphone and with a Seymour Duncan pick-up simultaneously on 2 different tracks. With an E-Mu 0404 interface and SONAR Home Studio on a Windows XP machine. I have yet to get a modern interface for this computer, so CbB is installed for reference.

Have you downloaded and installed the "Professional Software Suite" from the Alesis site? If so, is there a software mixer in which you set the inputs and outputs? Looking at it online, it doesn't seem to be a good choice for someone who wants trouble-free recording. The lack of an ASIO driver (which is almost a requirement for recording satisfaction with Cakewalk by Bandlab) is the biggest problem, I think. The "Optional ASIO4All" driver is not a 'real' ASIO driver and can cause problems with other audio drivers. Sorry I can't tell you how to best use it, but if it is recently purchased, I would consider returning it and buying an ASIO-compatible interface. Devices from MOTU, Presonus, Focusrite have a pretty good record with CbB. Record Via USB MultiMix 4 USB FX contains a complete USB recording interface. Plug the MultiMix 4 USB FX’s class-compliant USB connection into your Mac or PC without the need for software drivers Professional Software Suite The MultiMix 4 USB FX includes all the software you need to begin your production. This special bundle includes the AIR Mini Grand virtual piano, DB-33 virtual organ and Eleven Lite, with over 20 high-quality guitar, amp and effect models. https://www.alesis.com/products/view/multimix-4-usb-fx Emphasisms by me.

When opening a project file from the File menu, I have never had to double-click; a single click opens it. I have never had CA9, I started with Music Creator 2003 in 2002. Try single-clicking it?

Timely, too.

I've taken to wearing my old x1.5 reading glasses over my new prescription glasses when using my laptop.

Thanks, craigb (ityrn)!

The maid housekeeper most of us would probably end up with: Was supposed to be a pic of Berta from Two and a Half Men.

I have had hearing loss since I was 2 years old, due to multiple infections. So bad that I had to get a tintanoplasty done on my right ear when I was 10. I should probably get hearing aids, but then I might hear the roommate telling me to take the garbage out.

What key is it in?
