I come here to leave my immense sadness and announce that after 8 long years of seriously using Sonar/Cakewalker I am going to migrate to another DAW! The reason is very simple! THE CAKEWALKER CLOSES BY ITSELF AND KEEP GIVING WRONG! So many updates and they never fix it! Before I thought it was my PC, but when I buy a new one with a top configuration, the DAW keeps closing by itself! Very sad to have to leave this program but there is nothing more that can be done!

Hopefully,  this reply answers your good question ?

Around Dec 2017, during the time-of-uncertainty (i.e. post-Gibson, pre-BandLab),  AAS offered serial numbers which allowed the 'old' SONAR Edition of the AAS instruments (e.g. Lounge Lizard, Strum Session, etc.) to run on any DAW.  The serial numbers were offered upon request for a limited time.

That explains why I'm still able to use the old-SONAR Edition of AAS on Studio One and presumably other DAWs today.

Thanks for the details.  It makes sense.

As for me. although I started using Cakewalk for MS-DOS and upgraded a number of times along the way, I was not active in any of the Cakewalk/Sonar forums.  So when Cakewalk folded and offers were made by AAS and others, I was not in any pipeline to hear about the offers.  I never switched away from Cakewalk. I was using gear including a pair of hardware sequencers, and the AAS Sonar Editions worked in X1 and X3 and later CbB.

After getting into Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular I found that the AAS Sonar Editions didn't work with the Plug-in Host.  As luck would have it, AAS had a Humble Bundle. Tier 3 included licensed versions of the AAS Session plug-ins along with 5 Sound Packs plus Objeq Delay.

So even though I missed out on the offer of free licenses for the non-SONAR Edition plug-ins,  it worked out for me and I became a fan of AAS.

I was looking and only answers were on old Sonar Gibson forum from 2015. A lot of my projects use Dim Pro for the acoustic bass. I have tried to open it in 2 other DAW's and it doesn't seem to scan up. Has anybody ever used it elsewhere?

As for Dim Pro, I opened an older Cakewalk project and Dim Pro came up as missing.  So I added a new instance and it worked--even though the original file still had the missing one in the Synth Rack--in parentheses.  But at least one instance of it works.  Good to know; thanks for bringing this issue up.

Just tested Dim Pro in Voltage Modular (Host Module).   With a *.voltagepreset from 1/2021 and one from 11/2021 all 4 instances of Dim Pro works. I was also able to insert an instance into VM's Host Plug-in once I found the location of the right *.dll.  Dimension Pro x64.dll from 8/30/2010 seems to work for me.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I remember with one of the bundled programs having the LE version and the full version installed or registered or something caused an issue.  Not sure if it was Dim Pro and Dim LE, but I do not have the LE version in my CbB Browser. Not 100% I am remembering the conflict correctly, but it might be worth looking onto. I am using Dim Pro 1.5.

Did you have the SONAR editions?  I seem to recall that those only worked with SONAR.  They might have also worked in CbB; I don't remember.  Several years ago, I did buy the AAS Sessions so I could use them in Voltage Modular.  I forget how much I paid for them; it might have been on sale somewhere or in a Humble or Fanatical Bundle.  (Ultimately I got the full versions.)  It doesn't hurt to (1) look around or (2) to ask AAS about an upgrade price for The Sessions from the SONAR Versions.

I have the SONAR Editions on my current PC. They load in VM, but make no sound. In the list of options (top/center), there's a button to press to get the "Become an AAS Registered User" and a button to get the full version.  Not sure if trying to become a registered user will give you prices to upgrade to the Non-SONAR Edition.

It's been a long while since I installed Dimension Pro for the first time and don't have all the details. I thought my DimPro was packaged with a SONAR professional edition(s). Perhaps, there was an upgrade offered somewhere along the way.  I've had DimPro since at least the SONAR 8.5 days.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for not being clear (my error).  In referring to the SONAR Editions. I was asking about the AAS Session SONAR Edition instruments.

My question to you was intended to be part of my reply to John in connection with the AAS Session SONAR Edition instruments, but I hit quote instead of edit and was too tired to fix it.  I'd like to think I won't make the same mistake again, but I probably will.

Thanks for confirming.  I will send sent them a note.

UPDATE:  Just got the reply.  They confirmed the latest Swatches is indeed missing presets from Exodus.  They will correct this and put the right installer online, probably tomorrow.  I'll double check and let you know when its there.  Again, thanks for confirming you also found them missing.

I checked for a few days.  There was no update to Swatches and I forgot about it--until a few minutes ago.   Looks like it has been updated:

740+ PRESETS. AND MORE TO COME.

With each sound pack release—72 so far, we update Swatches with a selection of at least 8 presets from that new title so there is always more coming in. With sounds from every pack, Swatches is a great way to give a pack a spin before making a purchase.

CONFIRMED: Swatches now has 744 presets, eight of which are from Exodus.

  8. Did it/Does it generate a *.dmp file?

I use a file-listing tool called Everything to find different types of files (such as *.dmp files).  I then use a tool called WinDbg.exe which has an "Analyze" function.  That tells me if the crash was caused by a specific plug-in.  If so, that helps me problem-solve the issue if a solution is within my control.  If I think it's worth reporting (such as to a plug-in maker, or to Cakewalk), I have the option to send them the *.dmp file.

  9. RE: Double Scoop.  My go-to plug-in tester is Voltage Modular.  I found the list of exposed parameters available to me was not right. It started with 8 "V1 Amp Env Atk" parameters, followed by "Bypass," and then the typical list of per-channel "MIDI CC" parameters (MIDI CC 00|0 to MIDI CC 15|129).

I don't know if the actual parameter names show up properly in CbB. UPDATE: Just checked. The same problem shows up in CbB.

Also, the samples seem to be included in *.cra files; I could no way to find to add user samples.

ADDENDUM: Via Right-Click, Double Scoop's controls have MIDI Learn and Assign to CC.

  10. Video demo looks promising.  Seems to work in Voltage Modular (with VM's Plug-in Host Module) and CbB. Lots of sliders. Estimated approx. 280-285 exposed parameters. So far as I can see Remote Control / MIDI Learn and Patch Selection functionality depend on VST Host/DAW. Not exactly sure what's original about it.

Simple Test: Set up 12 of the Harmonic Sliders (there are 16) to be controlled by LFO CVs (different shapes and amounts) for a hamonic shape shifting patch.  Yup: Experimental!!!  ?

  11. Not 100% of what you are trying to show.  Here's what I see: You have SI-Drums on Track 1 with a LABS Plug-in turned off in the FX Bin.  Then when you turn the LABS Plug-in on in the FX Bin, the Drums disappear.

Is LABS an FX Plug-in?  Are you using it for the purpose of adding an effect to the kit being played from SI-Drums? If so, how is the LABS Plug-in set up (i.e., routed)?

I have some LABS things that I never use (except to listen to them), but the ones I have are sounds not FX.

UPDATE:  I did exactly what you did.  Try putting an FX plug-in (not an instrument/audio plug-in ) in the FX Bin.

PS: You can see on the right side (the Browser), you have Instruments selected.  While some instruments can also be used as FX plug-ins, I am not sure that LABS instruments can.  I'd suggest trying some of the Audio FX.

From the Help menu sign OUT of Bandlab and sign IN again

Yup!  This method has worked for me several times when faced with the "expiring in N days" notification. Not 100% sure, but one time I might have just signed in via the Bandlab.com sign in link from the Help Menu.  I have a mental note to try that intentionally the next time I get the notification.

MIDI:   Added an option to “Soft takeover MIDI learned parameters” in Menu -> MIDI Settings

No idea what this is, but it sounds worth updating to find out.

    FOUND IT:

    Quote

    Soft Takeover MIDI Learned Parameters:

Avoids sudden parameter jumps that can happen if received MIDI CC values are different from the current value of the assigned parameter. When this option is enabled, the assigned parameter will not be changed until a MIDI CC value is received that matches the parameter’s current value.

Soft takeover was very much missed from E-Mu Command Stations, Proteus 2500, etc.

What's the difference between Melda's Turbo plugins and their non-Turbo counterparts? I can see MTurboReverb is £256 while MReverb is £33, so I'm guessing the Turbo variants are the 'deluxe' versions?

I updated Usynth and Drive on my existing UJAM account without problem yesterday. So it may be just a glitch  for you.

Thanks; looks like it was indeed some sort of glitch.

I tried it once more, and then verified I still had USynth 1.3.1 and Drive 1.0.1.  Despite having had Drive for months, the USynth info panel said "Ready for Trial."  So I put Drive into my cart (for $0.00), checked out, and sure enough the app downloaded 1.1.0, installed it, activated it, and at the same time updated USynth to 1.3.2.

Glad you pointed out that it could have been an issue with my specific account.

  16. When using the updater, the choices are "KEEP" and "UPGRADE."  If I choose keep, "no UJAM account required." Or I can choose upgrade, "to create a UJAM account" and get a free license.

    Quote

Simply update your Usynth DRIVE, and you'll automatically receive 50 new presets.

I got the USynths from PlugIn Boutique so I already have a UJAM account (needed to redeem the codes). From what I can see, there is no way for someone with an existing UJAM to choose to to update to the one with 50 new presets.  I keep getting into an infinite KEEP / UPGRADE loop. There seems to be no path to update Drive, either from the website or from the updated installer (1.0.6).

The installer says there are updates for both USynth and Drive, but all that does is go to the KEEP / UPGRADE choices.

    Quote

Usynth DRIVE will transition from a free to a paid product on June 14th. It will remain free for you as a legacy user, if you get a free license now. [emphasis added]

So it seems I can keep the old version of Drive until mid-June, but since I already have a UJAM account, I can't upgrade to a free license unless I get a new e-mail address and pay for a paid version of Drive. (Maybe.)

Can't login to the UJAM App to update my copy of DRIVE.  I'm guessing the problem is server congession.

Logging in at UJAM works today

For me, the server / app seems to be working for some things:  I successfully redeemed codes for my purchased synths from a few weeks ago and the app now shows them as being installed (as opposed to "trial expired"). However, for Drive, I cannot update from 1.0.1 to 1.1.0 and I cannot update USynth from 1.3.1 to 1.3.2.

Also, I got the 20% discount code for signing up for the newsletters.  Please note: valid until June 30th, 2024

Okay, just grabbed a new d/l and now I can see String It is in Swatches, but not Exodus.

Either I downloaded the wrong thing earlier, or installed from an old installer or something, because now we match, and "String It" is the newest one.

I remember getting the email about "Exodus"....

Are you going to write them?

    Hold up.

Rather than just going by what the website had been telling me, I just checked A|A|S Player and I don't have sounds from Velvet Chic, Split Personality, Exodus, String It, Real Illusions, Bass Factory, Hop Riffs, or Love Lost....

What the hell is up with that?? Every time one comes out, as I said I check the page to see if they've put in the latest sample sounds and I only download if they do.

I guess I should tell them. Maybe they have the wrong build up on the website.

I just finished comparing numbers: the website shows 72 sound packs; AAS Player shows I have 71.  I know I have all of the ones you don't seem to have.  I even tried installing aax and nks on my second and third installations.

I was thinking maybe I got a defective version (maybe a server issue). All three times the Page Down to see the full agreement didn't work.  I just had an empty box.

Feel free to quote my details when you report it.

BTW, I didn't count the presets, but the first one is numbered 1 and the last one is numbered 736.  There were no missing numbers where Exodus should be.

  20. 16 minutes ago, Starship Krupa said:

Yes, a month or two ago, or whenever it was that Exodus was released. Once a soundpack is released it's unusual for them to wait to include a dozen of them in Swatches and announce the new version.

Whenever they send me email saying a new soundpack has shipped, I go straight to the Swatches product page and check to see if they've put the treats in there for downloading and I can't remember ever being disappointed that they hadn't done it yet.

At this point, if I sat down with Swatches and spent only 30 seconds auditioning every sound in it, I think it would take me 4 hours or so to finish, if my math is right.

Thanks for the reply. The last Swatches zip file I downloaded was in March.  I don't download them all.

The email says "The Exodus sound pack is available now at the special introductory price of only $19—a 50% off discount. . . .The promotion ends on April 22, 2024."  Maybe they will include it in a later edition of Swatches.  Not a big deal; I was just wondering if they skipped the Exodus presets for some reason.
