  1. This reminds me of a song by the Rolling Stones: Paint It, Black
  2. My thought (which I've used many times before) is to do a Google search, see what a whole bunch of others say, and then combine them to make what they say my own. I just searched "midi 5 pin din wiring" and found a number of hits that look worthwhile.
  3. Apologies if someone else pointed this out already.
  4. If you have a search tool (such as "Everything" from Void Tools), look for *.lns files (that's lower case LNS, not INS). Try Cakewalk Core\Lenses\User within AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk for your user account. For example, my custom lenses are at C:\Users\ {myAccountName} \ AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\Lenses\User
  5. Having SynthMaster 3 and SynthMaster One with 16 channels (midi and audio) would be great!!! ?
  6. I agree, but I would make one significant distinction: Unfortunately, many soft synths are not multi-channel/multi-timbral instruments like almost all of my hardware synths and samplers are. With Synthmaster 2.9 we can change the channel through Settings. So far as I can see, Multi mode does not allow for different MIDI channels to have different presets. ? Aside: If you have Voltage Modular Core, it is fairly easy to design a basic preset that contains 16 channelized instances of SynthMaster (among other software synths) hosted in Voltage Modular. I am guessing there are other tools that do this, too. One advantage of this approach for me is that once I have the voltagepreset set up, I can insert a single instance of VM into Cakewalk and choose that channelized preset in VM. Saves having to insert up to 16 instances of any the synth. There are other advantages as well as some disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages is that VM only has 4 pairs of stereo outputs.
  7. The middle screen grab shows you are using the Basic Workspace. Assuming the other two are also using the Basic Workspace, I'd say that's the cause of the changes. You could change the Workspace to "none" or to a different Workspace. Or, you could make the changes you want and then resave the Workspace with a non-factory name, MyWorkspace, FullControlBar, 2023-01-29, etc. Have you created custom Workspaces on another PC? If so, you could locate them, copy them to a thumb drive, and put them on the new PC. There may be other solutions, too. I am biased towards using custom Workspaces.
  8. I use two monitors on my PCs. Some (not all) of my personal Workspaces are set up specifically for two monitors. Some include the Track View on one monitor and the Console / MultiDock on a second monitor. There is a thread where someone wanted the main Cakewalk window to be contiguous across two monitors. My two-monitor Workspaces use floating windows. I'm guessing that with a small laptop and a larger second monitor, you do not want the displays to be contiguous. Note: the thread (one of several) also addresses using a second monitor. However, I have seen that sometimes having different resolution/scaling settings on two displays can cause issues. On my PCs, I have resolved these by adjusting settings.
  9. First of all, glad you got the problem solved. Second, I am glad you mentioned "Transition by CodeFN42 and RPE2 from HY-Plugins." I was scratching my head because I had no idea what a MIDI synth was. I am familiar with hardware controllers which I wondered if that's what you meant, and I am familiar with software synths, but when you said they don't produce sound, I decided that's not what you mean. Fortunately, the websites for both of those call them sequencers. It seems to me if the icon on the instrument for one sequencer opens up the plug-in window for a plug-in, that might mean there is a routing issue or there is a bug that probably ought to be looked into, or both. Or, it could be a one-time only fluke. Recently I had a similar issue where I either deleted tracks that had a certain synth on it or replaced the synth, but the synth was still listed in the synth rack and affected other things in the track. I deleted it manually. Not sure if when deleting tracks or replacing synths the synth is supposed to be removed from the synth rack automatically. Anyhow, glad you got your issue fixed. Update: Thanks for mentioning Transition. I had downloaded it in October, unpacked it, tried it briefly, and set aside reading the manual sometime later. So, I played around some more today and will try to find a use for it. Update # 2: Another thanks for posing the problem. Since I like to explore new ideas for incorporating midi into my workflow, I created a project that used two midi sequencer plug-ins (Transition and Hypercyclic) each sending midi data to a different soft synth (Ekla-X and Odin II. Each time I clicked on the icon in each track, the correct UI opened. I had fun the the sequencer plug-ins.
  10. Some of us have issues with Facebook. Some of us will never sign up based on those issue. Mike has chosen to make his content private as is his right, just as he has a right to make money. My personal choice is only to visit Facebook groups that have their content open to the public. I totally get that billions of people all over the globe think that Meta, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are the greatest things since the invention of fruits and vegetables.
  11. Looks like he has another one: Note: He has a sponsor, a private facebook group, and is selling Full Access to his Cakewalk for Beginners Series. I don't think he would mind if people started giving him money.
  12. Verified. Nevertheless some people will still complain for some reason or another or a different reason. ? Seriously, though, maybe the double click option that works for the Time+ slider could be set up for the Key+ slider?
  13. Please delete. Edited post (below) got put in as a new post. ?
  14. Looks interesting. Manual. I just read through the manual. Not sure what kind of data come from the the usb port to the computer ("Data Transmission" ). If it is a bona fide audio device, it should be selectable in Cakewalk's Preferences. (See Reference Guide, Tutorials, etc.). It is supposed to be compatible with Windows, but the manual doesn't say anything about installing drivers and I don't see where drivers can be downloaded from the website. Maybe it will work out of the box with WASAPI. (See John Vere's Tutorial # 36.) Not sure if Bluetooth would work to send audio to your computer. Using the audio out might also be an option. But digital audio direct from the USB port would be my first choice. Does it show up as an audio device on your laptop (e.g., Settings/Device Manager)? If so, I assume Windows would make it visible/accessible to any software, including Cakewalk. (See Cakewalk's Preferences to select the device.) The Donner setup video says to use the power button on the Donner to turn on the computer. That might be significant for Windows to successfully enumerate the Donner as a usb device. Best Practices Tip: Make sure you consistently use the same usb port each time you use the Donner. A number Cakewalk users have reported issues caused by changing the usb port used.
  15. This reminded me, every once in a while a Windows 10 Update will change something that makes an extended partition on one of my hard drives disappear. The first time it happened, it took a few days to research the problem and find a solution. I now have the HDD manufacturer's problem-solution page for this bookmarked. IIRC the solution involves running their partition manger which reinstalls something without changing any of the files in the partition.
  16. FWIW, my computer has two VST3 Presets Folders. One has 3 subfolder, two of which are empty. The other has 1 subfolder. The presets must have been placed there by the manufacturer's installation process. One is Plug-in Boutique's Virtual CZ (by Oli Larkin), the other is McDSP's EC300 (Magnetic Echo).
  17. Sorry just saw this response.... yes I'm talking about the Inspector panel. The slider widget there is not easy to guide to a specific number without over running. At times - I'm trying to adjust a key offset ( audibly ), to get an idea of how many keys to edit transpose. A Plus or minus 1 at the edges of the slider would be helpful as well as a numeric input. Makes sense. Finding a specific value with the slider widgets is a problem. For me the Shift+mouse wheel method works in part because I am comfortable with using the mouse and the rectangular widgets are nice, large hot spots. I can understand that for others clicking on the widget and typing a number might be easier. Maybe the developers can redesign the widget.
  18. Back in the day, a friend and I slowed down a fast part (IIRC it was the sped up sax section near the end in Peaches en Regalia) using 2 machines. In addition to slowing it down, the pitch dropped 4 octaves. We could have then dropped it by another factor of two to make it 8 octaves from the original (and then to 16). But as noted, the drop in sound quality compounded with each iteration. We didn't have a variable speed motor to drop something in multiples of 1.5 octaves. We only had 7 1/2 and 3 3/4. In the interest of mentioning other options, Voltage Modular has a Sampler II module which is visually patterned after an old E-Mu Emulator. Using Pitch Control Voltages, a sample can loaded, triggered, and be played across the span of a keyboard (for example). I found a vocal sample of a female singer saying something ("Yeah, yeah, yeah.") and played it across a 48 key keyboard. I pitched the keyboard down to the lowest midi value and at my lowest C it sounded like a foghorn or something like that. Pitching the keyboard up also worked, but after "chipmunk pitch" I got nasty artifacts--probably because internally Voltage Modular does 48K. If you are looking for higher sample rates, this might not work for you. Not sure what you will be doing, if you are wanting to batch process lengthy audio files, or manipulate individual slices or selections from larger files. A full-fledged audio editor might best meet your needs. However, when you say "various sounds in nature, percussion kits, pieces if junk, etc." you might want to re-pitch those individually--as sounds or as clips. And if you are really into sample manipulation, there are a few third-party sample manipulation modules for Voltage Modular. Just another option depending on what you will be doing.
  19. FWIW, I did a quick test yesterday and on my older Win 10 PC that had older versions of SONAR installed, I have the Export and Manage buttons enabled for some of the plug-ins. However, my current Win 10 PC didn't have the older versions of the plug-ins installed. The Export and Manage buttons are greyed out (until I Import an *.SPP files]. I just assumed this was normal.
  20. JMO: Right now it is for guitarists who are really into the sound of specific guitar gear (and amp, cabinet, & stomp box combinations). I have tested it with AAS Strum and with some soft synth patches with a guitar-like sound (contour and harmonic complexity). For my own personal needs, AT5, Mix Box, and other tools works. If at sometime you plan to upgrade/Crossgrade/MAXgrade to an upcoming version of TS Max (assuming it will have TONEX Full or MAX), TONEX CS would give you a head start understanding how to search for models, how to download them, how to tweak them, and how to insert TONEX models into AT5. I don't do much with guitar-sounding patches/presets, but I did download some of the limited number of models that come with CS. The algorithms are definitely geared to modelling guitar gear. If they ever develop algorithms for synths and offer tone models based on the sound of classic synths (esp. synth FX chips), I would be interested. Imagine if they had tone models of the cheesy sound of the Roland MT-32's FX chip, the unique all-in-one sound of the Casio CZ FX, or something like the advanced FX chips found in the E-Mu Command Station line. For guitar model sounds, I defer to the opinions of the guitarists here.
  21. What matters is that you can do what you want in a way that it feels comfortable to you. Glad you got it solved.
