  1. Check your e-mail for a summarizing mailing from the MIDI Association.
  2. I see that sample packs are $50. So I wondered if Collective users can import their own samples to create presets. I took a quick look at the manual. So far as I can tell, it looks like Collective uses a proprietary sample format and there is no "Import Sample" button to convert other samples. I did see a way to move user samples to the right place, but to me it is not clear is users can user other sample formats. If this has a lower CPU usage than other sample-handling software synth, I might be interested. So, if anyone knows or finds out additional information, please share. Thanks. ADDENDUM: While searching the manual for "import" I saw that the arp section allows allows for importing midi patterns. That might be of interest to some who don't have that in any other arp or soft synth software.
  3. I agree that the original post doesn't have enough information for others to be helpful. I will assume you have the keyboard's MIDI and audio connected to your PC correctly and that your preferences, settings, and routing are all correct. I also assume that by " . . . added an audio track to a midi file" you: inserted a midi track into a project, recorded midi data from your keyboard onto the midi track, then created an audio track to record, render, or bounce the audio playback of the midi track from the keyboard, and then selected the audio track and played the audio you recorded. Is the midi track still routed to the keyboard? Is the midi track midi echo button on?
  4. Warning: There are some scantily clad dancers towards the end of the audience participation section. Feel free to close your eyes, and just listen.
  5. Interesting. To my ear (admittedly it could be my tinnitus), the mp3 is sort of close, but the patch doesn't sound quite right, or maybe the Minimoog is running through external FX. Unfortunately, there's a shout of the Minimoog panel, but the clip is too blurry to read the settings. It might even be helpful if there were a clearer version that shows how many oscillators are making the sound even if the settings can't be seen. I have no experience with nsmp files. Not sure what "there are very discrete harmonics (15 tones total) in his oscillator setup" means. Are you saying the recreation uses 15 tones (overtones) at various amplitudes to approximate the Minimoog wave used? See also this forum / thread . Some trivia about Manfred Mann's equipment can be found here (not necessarily about Blinded by the Light).
  6. Off-hand I don't know, I'd look up what instruments he was playing at the time. Also, in case it was Manfred Mann's standard organ, Old Joad posted a list of organ drawbar presets. Perhaps Blinded By the Light is on that list. If it is from a B3, there are a number of emulations available from various developers. CORRECTION: Looks like its played on the Minimoog based on the live version. Unfortunately, with the increased level of my tinnitus and upper frequency hearing loss over the past 5 years or so, I don't think I could figure it out the settings from listening. UPDATE ( from Wikipedia ) : Blinded By the Light Manfred Mann's Earth Band cover Manfred Mann – organ, piano, Minimoog, backing vocals, lead vocals If the studio version also uses a Minimoog (as listed in Wikipedia), you might want to try Arturia's emulation. From the video it looks like he hits a high note to trigger the portamento and then drops back down to use the mod wheel to add the LFO. NOTE: I am more familiar with Cherry Audio's Minimoog emulation; I see that Arturia's is very different; not sure how to design patches on Arturia's Mini.
  7. Thanks for clarifying this. I was wondering why Twelve Tone Systems, Inc. chose all caps (not curious enough to ask, though).
  8. Two months ago I picked up a 2 TB crucial external SSD at a local store for $10 more than it is at NewEgg today ($100). I have just started to use it and have no feel for how good/reliable it is over the long haul. Any impressions / experiences with their external SSDs? Thanks.
  9. SONAR X1 still works on my XP SP3 PC; SONAR X3 (and some pre-X versions of SONAR) work on my Windows 10 Pro PCs. Unless Noel or someone official has announced what will happen with activation (will it still be required?) that is an open issue. My guess (100% speculation) is that re-activation for existing licenses will be required. It seems like a logical way to make sure that only existing users of CbB can continue to use it. But maybe the development team has something else in mind. In any case, (1) I accept what they have said (it will continue to be available to existing users) and (2) I will wait until they announce what will happen with re-activation. To me, not being supported means no updates, no bug fixes. My "elders" had a saying that was passed down to later generations, "Don't borrow trouble." For me its a variation of "I'll cross that bridge when we get there." ? But you are right--at some point, someone might complain about having to re-activate CbB and the owner (current or future) might stop the activation server. Based on what has happened over the past 5 years, I am choosing to wait and see. I understand that some people might want to jump ship. That's fair in my opinion. We each have to make our own decisions. As for me, I have considerably less income than I did when I was into purchasing new versions of Cakewalk/SONAR. Depending on the pricing structure, I might not be able to afford either of the new products. So, I do understand where people are coming from.
  10. Good question. I was able to activate the limiter just from putting in my username/password during the activate process. After that, I realized I have never activated Drumazon on my current PC. So I ran the installer, followed the instructions to download a *.KEY file, and pointed the plug-in's activation dialog to the KEY. It was a zillion times easier than trying to get the free Indie Melodica instrument working in NI's Kontakt 6 Player. It would be good if someone who doesn't already have an account can create one and let others know if the limiter can be activated.
  11. I had an account from another freebie I got (Drumazon, through Plug-in Boutique a few years ago), but from what I can see you can sign up for a free account. I like D16's approach because we can download it first (unlike many other freebies).
  12. Since this is really a request by one person for a Black & White theme, off-topic content related to other high-contrast possibilities has been removed.
  13. If you are serious, I hope you saw that we will be able to continue to use CbB. It just won't have any updates.
  14. "I remember grabbing it as well as posting the links in the old Forum." Maybe that's the one I grabbed. I looked in the old forum for the post earlier today, but didn't see it.
  15. But, but . . . trying to sort out where the comparisons are valid and where they fall apart is more fun than doing sudoku and crossword puzzles. Also it is not as challenging as matrixed logic puzzles. You know, "There are seven families on the same block living either next to each other or across the street whose last names are colors of the rainbow. Each has a car but only one owns a car that matches the family name. Two have cars that match the name of their neighbors. Three have cars that match the name of a family on the other side of the street. " etc. ?
  16. Good point. In fact one of my decision-making factors not to buy into the product called "SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates)" was my concern that all they had to do was retire that product in favor of a different product. I vaguely recall that I had something like that happen before. (Kind of like, "No, you are not entitled to the new product, because this is a different product.") Although it might be nice to say my decision was "smart" or that I had ESP, it was more based on learned skepticism of the games corporations play. That being said, if there is a reward, perk, discount, or something for loyal, long-term paid users of Cakewalk/SONAR and I hope its not just for those for who paid Gibson for SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates) and who got up to five years worth of free updates from Bandlab and the developers after the product was discontinued /reached the end of its life.
  17. DAMN!!!! Now I am starting to get cravings for white popcorn doused with powdered cheese-flavored product. Of course, I don't need the NaCL plus the shell fragments always get caught under my gums causing irritation issues. ? Fortunately I have some small yellow corn tortillas I can toast and have with salsa and cheese! ?
  18. I was not challenging your right (legitimacy) to worry. I was offering what I thought was a helpful suggestion. You can worry all you want. However, I would rather read information about the products (new info as it becomes available) instead of people rehashing the same-old same-old expressions of worrying. Let me be clear, I never said that worrying wasn't a legitimate human reaction to any sort of news. Trust me, at my ripe old age, I have done tons of worrying. So I understand perfectly what goes into worrying. Worry on!!!! Peace.
  19. Isn't that why an unlocked / one-time only activation version of Home Studio was made available (so that people would continue to have access to their projects)?
  20. Since this is really a request by one person for a Black & White theme, off-topic content related to other high-contrast possibilities has been removed.
  21. PS: In the unlikely event that I was wrong about the activation issue ("I am sure we will find out in due time") and we don't have 6-months to make plans, I just refreshed my activation.
  22. No need to worry; I am sure we will find out in due time. Here's how I look at it: If the 6-month activation requirement will be in effect after the final CbB update, we will have 6 months after that final update to make alternate plans if we so desire. If the 6-month activation requirement is gone, worrying between now and then will have been a waste of time for the worrier, for people who reply, for people who have to sort through the same-old same-old discussion that is going around in circles getting nowhere fast, etc. Don't worry; be happy!!
  23. For those who like what Waverley Instruments does, they have a very active presence with Voltage Modular modules (FX and instruments). They even have a FZ Guitar FX module. (As noted elsewhere, VM can be run as an FX Rack in Cakewalk by Bandlab.) Kontakt not required.
