Which Uses More PC Resources, ProChannel or 3rd Party?
John replied to razor7music's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
ProChannel was meant to use very little resources when it was introduced. I can't say if it does now or not. Though it was meant to be used on all tracks. I haven't used it on all tracks yet. Also with the ability to use any VST in PC I would now say no. It would greatly depend on what is in your ProChannel. -
Well I wouldn't check all MIDI ports. Just the ones you want. I don't think he would want the MS synth. ?
-
You need at least three MIDI inputs if I counted your gear right. You may need to add one more.

It is by far a better forum. Things just work. It also has features I have not seen before. I like it.
-
I think that was Nov 2017.
-
I see. Not a bad idea. I would put in a feature request.
-
I don't know but why would you want to?

Use a place on a HD other than your C drive to store any programs add ons and anything you want to keep so if your C drive goes south you have all your stuff safe. For example, I use my download directory on the C drive for programs and stuff I don't need to keep. On another which is 4 TB I use that for downloads for all the stuff I want to keep. This also includes serial numbers in txt documents. However, most developers have a copy of your documents. Just remember your passwords. LOL You also use a external USB 3 drive for this.

I think you hit on a very important point. I believe that CW brought Skylight out to make it possible to add all the features we have seen plus I think they had developed the old UI and its underlying code and core as far as they could. That is why Skylight came along. They sort of hinted at it at the time.

Get the Moog Modular from Arturia.

You are welcome and in a way it was fun because it was a mystery that was begging to be solved.

One thing that should be mentioned is I know without a manual its hard to have the nomenclature (name) of all the things in Cakewalk. However, there is Help and it will layout the terms used in Cakewalk. Also download the manual for Sonar Platinum. It is out of date but is still very useful. Knowing the names of things makes it so much easier to find answers.

That is the Insert on button per track. For me it is set to on as the default. There is also a Global FX Insert button on your Control Bar in the Mix Module. It is labeled FX. If you turn it on all your inserts will be off.

I guess you noticed I have no idea what he is talking about. Thus the pictures. ?

To Garyed; Sonar X1 came out early in 2012. It is a very old version with very limited features. Its major reason for being introduced was to implement the Skylight UI. All the versions since then have been refinements of that UI and adding new and very useful features. The new Cakewalk by Bandlab is an improved Sonar Platinum. It is very much in your favor to upgrade to Cakewalk. (It is free by the way.) You can still use X1 but I believe once you try Cakewalk you wont want to. I wish I could list all the improvements in Cakewalk but there are simply too many from X1 to attempt it.

Please tell me what red button are you talking about? The first picture is the default for an audio track header. The second is with automation write engaged. The third is with the track being record enabled. To my understanding those are the only red buttons on the track header. They are off be default.

Solved — Exporting Tracks: Volume Affects; Gain Affects --- Huh?
John replied to chamlin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
That is odd. Mixing must be a hit and miss affair with PT. LOL -
Nice to hear that. I have to agree. ?

Cakewalk is the name of what we use to call Sonar. CW as a company no longer exists. Bandlab is the new owner. They are giving Cakewalk away free. It is Sonar but much improved.
-
Cakewalk is an upgraded Sonar Platinum. You should be able to install Sonar X1. However, I would get Cakewalk. It is a much improved Sonar. You can use your old login and password but you can also start fresh and create a new account with Bandlab. There will be things that you wont be able to take advantage of because you did not upgrade to Sonar Platinum. There are more ProChannel modules that were released after X1. Still it is worth it to get Cakewalk anyway.

There is a lot of false information about Windows. Some is from people that want to justify using a different OS. Some is just hate of MS. Often this false information is reposted innocently by people that think they are doing a favor for others. One should be careful about any information one can not verify.

i7, i9 or Xeon for Cakewalk by Bandlab?
John replied to Daniel Vrangsinn's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
DPC latency may be a real problem with Xenos. There is nothing unreliable about any Intel processor. -
i7, i9 or Xeon for Cakewalk by Bandlab?
John replied to Daniel Vrangsinn's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I think its more about cost. However, an i9 is the new cool kid on the block and is highly desirable. I have heard they can be a little high in DPC latency. i7 are known to provide good performance. I just built an i7 8700 with 16 GB of RAM. I'm happy with it. Panu went for a i9 and seems to be very happy with it. Jim is the best person to ask about what you should get. -
I forgot to add mastering is also important for tailoring the output for various media.
