Why is Cakewalk not holding the output settings I assigned?
Base 57 replied to chris.r's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
This is at least one of your problems. Any audio or midi devices you use in a project need to be connected and turned on when you start Cakewalk. Be sure to use the same port every time. -
Track Templates and Multiple Hardware Outs Bug
Base 57 replied to Tez's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Just to clarify, This is a problem with Track Templates. For me Project Templates are working as expected. The OP in this thread is using WASAPI but I have same issue with ASIO. As for the problems @chris.r is having. I read those threads and understood it to be a problem with Project Templates. I do have a question about that but will post it in one of those threads later. -
Track Templates and Multiple Hardware Outs Bug
Base 57 replied to Tez's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I can duplicate this. External insert routing is not saved at all*. Buss is routed to the first hardware output regardless of which output was originally assigned *The external insert is shown in the FX Bin but send and return routing are set to "none". -
The staff view has stopped showing accidentals.
Base 57 replied to pmj_rit's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
In the screenshot it is the Event Inspector that incorrectly identifies the note as Eb1. The Staff View is displaying the note properly. I can replicate this. Apparently the PRV doesn't respect the Key Signature. With Key sig set to E (4 sharps) the PRV names D# as Eb. It is the PRV that is incorrect not the Staff View. -
That is correct. The only controller I use is TDaw for the rare occasion that I need a remote transport control. I have keyboards with assignable knobs and sliders but life is too short. By the time I remember which knob does what I can have made the adjustment with the trackball.

Arpeggiator parameters are still selectable in the automation lanes of midi tracks but not instrument tracks. They seem to be working as expected on my system however it is something I rarely use. YMMV.

Confused about the Synth Rack and proper synth management
Base 57 replied to Dave G's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The most simple answer is flexibility. 1. Yes you can ignore the synth rack altogether. For a long time the only way to insert an instrument into a project was to put it in the FX rack of an audio track. Some people still prefer to do it that way. However the Synth Rack allows you to insert an instrument with multiple input (midi) tracks and/or multiple output (audio) tracks. If you wish to do so you can insert an instrument without creating any tracks at all. Once an instrument is loaded into the rack the output of any midi track can be routed to it and the input of any audio track can be routed to it. So... 2. Theoretically an instrument can have any number of tracks associated with it. Typically you will want an audio track for each output and a midi track for each voice you want to control. Tracks may contain data you would not want to delete when deleting a synth. 3. An instrument track can be created by selecting a single midi track and the single audio track whose input is routed to the desired instrument. Right click one of the two tracks. "Make Instrument Track" is one of the options. 4. There is a drop down arrow to the right of the Synth Rack label. The replace synth option is in that drop down. This is just scratching the surface of a very deep subject. -
Inter-track distortion recording dual mono in CbB
Base 57 replied to Xibolba's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Today I've been recording a bass guitar through adjacent mono inputs (1+2, 3+4, etc.) to two mono tracks. I can't duplicate the OP's problem. However this... confuses me. I have an Orion 32+. CbB displays all of it's inputs as Left, Right or Stereo just as OP described here. There is not another setting as far as I know. Select a stereo input to record to record a stereo track. Select a mono input to record a mono track. That's it. I wish I could be more helpful but I have no idea why you are getting that distortion. All I can do is confirm that it works properly for me. -
Inter-track distortion recording dual mono in CbB
Base 57 replied to Xibolba's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Unless he boosted the resulting clips to at least -3, I doubt pan laws are the issue. I could be wrong. -
I have to pile on here. I've been trying to get used to the new way but I just can't. I always zoom with the Cntrl + Arrow keys and the new way just doesn't work for me. I am curious why it was changed. I don't recall anyone requesting it.

In "Preferences" make sure you don't have "Disable input monitoring during Playback" checked.

This deserved repetition.

Right Click the note name and choose "Map Properties" to rename or remap the individual note. Your first item is determined by the track output. So it is already there. Your third point is a long standing feature request that would please almost everyone who uses CbB. Drum Maps are not the most intuitive feature of Cakewalk. But once you have a basic map created it is easy to modify from the above mentioned "Map Properties" dialogue.

Clean Audio Folder use halted by Version files?
Base 57 replied to winkpain's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Because the version files reference the old audio you are looking to remove with the CAF. Delete the version files and then run the CAF. FWIW Craig Anderton had a tip on the old forum about using the "Consolidate Project Audio" utility for this purpose. Run the utility. It will create a "Backup" file inside the audio folder. In Windows Explorer move the "Backup" file up a level to the "Project" folder. Then rename the "Audio" folder (I usually name it "Delete"). Then rename the "Backup" folder to "Audio". Then you should run the project to verify it works properly before deleting the old folder. -
@Craig Anderton had a Friday tip on the old forum about how to do this using LoopBe. It works great.

Just imagine never having to pick up the mouse and move it over because you've run off the pad.

https://www.kensington.com/p/products/control/trackballs/orbit-trackball-with-scroll-ring/ This is mine. But I took out the blue ball and replaced it with a red one that I had from an older one.

I use a Kensington trackball. Just 2 buttons and a scroll wheel. Love it. Will never go back to a mouse.

Further testing. The above is true for playback. If I record the tracks, they record the mono source.
-
I'm getting the same as OP. I assign the output of any stereo track or bus to a new patch point.. Then I create two mono tracks using the mono patch points as inputs. I get a mono sum at each of the two new tracks.

@scook already answered this. Hold the cntrl key while moving it to where you want. No blue sticky fingers.

It's a Sharp TV. I don't know the model number (I would have to drag out the snake pit and get behind it to find that). I've been using it for about 3 years and I would not go back. I had been using a dual monitor setup and when I first got the TV I used all three. It didn't take a week to realize that everything I wanted to see would fit on the one screen. So I gave away one of the 27's and added the other to the dinosaur exhibit in my garage. I can open both Track View and Console View but usually don't. I typically open the GUI for my Orion 32+ at the top of the screen and then open CbB over the bottom 2/3 of the screen. So I have an I/O meter bridge above Cakewalk. Credit where it is due. My wife bought it for me. She came home with it and a 60 inch for the family room. Together they were under $900. I love her.

Clip pan will not override track pan in a mono track. And if there is a mono effect in the FX bin that will also override the clip pan. Any clip modifier (pan, gain, FX etc.) applies before the channel strip for the track.
