[CLOSED] Cakewalk 2020.04 Early Access 1
Noel Borthwick replied to Morten Saether's topic in Early Access Program
I get people getting worried about updates esp with all the crazy stuff that has been happening with Window updates over the last year or so. However one sanity check to keep in mind is that this is DAW software not an operating system with a million components and dependencies. When we update there are typically very a few things installed. The app exe, a few dll's and perhaps some content like this time. Rolling back is very safe and painless since all its doing is reverting a few files on the system. In theory a user would be able to do it manually for most updates by just reverting the contents of the Cakewalk Core folder in Program files. i.e. its not something to worry about too much. -

Every installer starting from this release will have a rollback to prior version. So you will only be able to go as far as 2020.01 by rolling back successively. We don't plan to have rollbacks to earlier than that. -

Thanks for the update. Thats bizarre. So now launching cakewalk doesn't impact audio from other apps? -
Newest version doesn't work on Windows 7?

@Nicault what exactly is the problem you are having? If anyone on this thread is having a specific Win7 problem with the early access release please get in touch ASAP. -

@mgustavo please report back if this is new to EA. AFIK there are no changes to this. Which release were you running prior to this? Also what driver mode are you using? -

@RBH I tried to contact you today by PM but didn't get any response. To get further with this we need to do some diagnosis on your system since we cannot repro on any Windows 7 systems we have. It appears to be system specific. I was able to extract some further information from the minidump which appears to indicate that the crash is triggered by Intel IPP software that is used by Cakewalk. See the stack below. When does it crash for you - On app startup itself, when opening a specific project or when opening a blank template? This could be caused by incompatible components. Keep in mind that other vendors are also not testing Win7 so it could be something else indirectly triggering the crash. I realize that everyone has their own constraints but please stop using Win7 asap. X64_APPLICATION_FAULT_NULL_POINTER_READ_INVALID_POINTER_READ_d3d11!CCreateDeviceCache::CUMDAdapterCache::Load+bc -

Newest version doesn't work on Windows 7?
Noel Borthwick replied to Resonant Serpent's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
For the record Windows 7 is end of life and we do not have the resources to test or develop custom workarounds or hacks to keep CbB working on Win 7 anymore. Though we try to remain basically compatible, problems like this will continue to happen because nobody is testing it anymore. That said, if there is something fundamentally broken and we can find a cause we do try and address it when possible. -

Thanks to help from @Jean-Philippe ROGER via a remote session, we were able to fix this issue. The root problem was this: Arrangement does not preview properly when "Set Now Time With Full Restart" enabled in Track View options. A fix has been implemented for the next release. -

@Peter Stiens Indeed. I found the source of the problem yesterday and we have a fix. Its quite a bad longstanding bug related to applying workspaces (or screensets) referencing views to an empty project. In your case the workspace referenced the step sequencer view. Since a blank project cannot have a step sequencer this was running into an issue when loading the workspace and crashing. This is already fixed for the next release but to work around your crash just remove the step sequencer from your custom workspace for the time being and it should resolve the issue. Thanks for reporting this! -

@Peter Stiens thanks for the dump file. Its crashing when creating the step sequencer view which is odd. Did you change the Empty Project.cwt file accidentally in the templates folder? Its normally here C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\Project Templates I can prevent the crash but it would be worth finding out why the template is referencing that view at all since its supposed to be empty. -

There are plenty of uses for conventional music and composing in general. Some are listed in the notes. -

There is no way to speed up the load of a plugin from the host side. Its up to the plugin to get more efficient. Talk to the plugin vendor who are the ones who have the power to do that -

There is an additional installer issue that we'll fix for the main release. For now run the installer as an admin and it should hopefully work. -

Its not expected. Something is likely consuming more memory than it should. Did you try removing some plugins and retesting it? Also make sure that you are not using scheduling model 3 since its still under development and there are some memory leaks. -
BUG: None = Omni? + Any MonitoringFX?
Noel Borthwick replied to PASHKULI's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
@Craig AndertonWhen you select entire mix, exports are captured from the hardware mains rather than the buses. There is no hardwired logic to favor the master bus - its all based on the signal flow. i.e. if your selection has tracks and buses that route to a specific set of mains by default they will be shown in the dialog. If there are multiple hardware mains selected when you export, then we internally create a bus to mix down all the mains selected and export that bus output. -

@markrounds what specific issue are you referring to? I'm not aware of any Maschine problem that came my way. Do you have a case number for this? -

No current plans to make Cakewalk itself cross platform. We're working on other cross platform apps and our efforts could ultimately help facilitate a full cross platform port but its very unlikely to happen in the near future. Staff view is a lower priority since it is one of the least used features. We try to make incremental updates to it but it was never intended to be a full blown score editor. -

We are working on a solution for overlapped notes across sections. @msmcleod already has something that improves this a lot. -

@Jean-Philippe ROGER I am unable to reproduce this even with the project you sent. i.e not seeing audio stop playing. Can you report back on some of your settings? Audio Driver mode Audio buffer size (latency) MIDI Playback buffer size Playback I/O buffer size (Sync and caching) Also if you start playback normally on the transport from the beginning of the project does it play normally? -

Hi @RBH as shown in your screenshot the crash is in Direct3D. The dump's you sent verify this. The crashes are not in Cakewalk code unfortunately. Looks like something is crashing your Direct 3d system. Its video related. @Keith Lane you can save and load multiple arrangements within the same project. If you click the dropdown in the arrangements pane in the inspector you can create as many arrangements as you like. When you select one of them from the arrangements combo box it loads all the sections in that arrangement. Arrangements can duplicate or reference sections that exist in the section pool.
