  1. It's because of the way Cakewalk imports (or opens) type 0 MIDI files (which these groove MIDI file are). The MIDI events in Type 0 MIDI files are all one track. When Cakewalk imports type 0 MIDI files, any MIDI Events that are set to different MIDI channels, get split to their respective MIDI tracks. The MIDI events in these MIDI grooves are all on MIDI channel 10. Because of this, Cakewalk create a MIDI track 10 to correspond to the MIDI events in these grooves. It has to create MIDI tracks 1 to 9 to fill the gap. Numerically and ordinally, you cannot start at the 10th track. The reason for MIDI channel 10 for these grooves is because back in the day of Roland GM/GS (and Yamaha XG) , MIDI channel 10 was usually reserved for the percussion track. I converted these to type 1 MIDI files which, when opened in Cakewalk, created a single track and then set that track’s MIDI channel to 10. No other MIDI tracks were created.
  2. Create an account here: (If you have not done so already) https://www.bandlab.com/sign-up Then use the Cakewalk Product Center to install. Note: Bandlab Assistant is no longer used to install Cakewalk by Bandlab.
  3. I am very confident that this is a case of “All good things come to those who wait”.... I have no doubt that this whole thing has many moving parts.... there is also change management to consider...
  4. I would rather have a perpetual licence - a similar way that Sonar Platinum was offered (before the lifetime licence was offered). Making 12 consecutive monthly, or one annual payment, gives you a version that keeps working. If any updates are released while you have an active membership, you have access to those updates. If, after the 12 consecutive monthly, or the one annual payment, you decide to stop renewing your membership, then you keep the version you had when you stopped renewing. What I definitely would not like is for the only way to keep using Sonar is via membership. I think that would annoy a lot of users.
  5. Can any of the Cakewalk devs tell me if Cakewalk by Bandlab reads the registry entry “UseGraphicsHWAccel” under the key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Sonar” if upon start up? My instinct is telling me to set this to 1. However, I am not sure if actually reads this key upon start up, or if this key and value is a carry over from older version of Cakewalk.
  6. When it comes to CbB, 29.9.0.98 = 2402.98. It’s just a different numbering system.
  7. For those who use OBS Studio to do screen recordings of their Cakewalk session (or just PC screen), OBS Studio has been updated to 30.1.0. (Click on “Windows” to download) https://obsproject.com/ (Click on “Windows” to download the installer) On a side note, if you wish to record using ASIO mode from inside OBS Studio, you an use this ASIO plugin to do so. obs-asio v3.2.0 https://github.com/Andersama/obs-asio/releases/ (Scroll down to “Assets” and click on “obs-asio-3.2.0-windows-x64-Installer.exe” to download the installer)
  8. This is the link https://everyplugin.com/velvet-chic.html $15.89 (This is my price when I logged in)
  9. Trouble with things like this is you never really know who to contact. The driver manufacture, the plugin manufacturer or the Cakewalk developer? If you contact the Cakewalk developers, they will say they can’t reproduce it because they have a different PC set-up. Sometimes, who ever you contact , they will say it's not them When you say “without loading a thing” - are you sure there are no plugins in your default template? This happens to me from time to time - especially with CPU heavy plugins..... I just have a batch file that kills the Cakewalk tasks. Something like taskkill /im "cakewalk.exe" /f usually does the trick. Yes, I shouldn’t have to do it, but there you go, I do...... For the record, my money is on a plugin most of the time.
  10. I have never had that happen. One thing that springs to mind is that something may be borked in the key bindings. What you might want to try is head to Preferences - Customisation - Keyboard Shortcuts (Advanced). Export your current keybindings. Then Zap All. If this does not fix it, then import your saved keybindings. One thing to remember is that each workspace can load their own keybindings in case you’re using workspaces. Other users might have other suggestions.
  11. Here is what I would try. · Turn your PC off and on again (make sure it does not merely go to sleep mode) · Log on to Windows and, when the desktop is ready, immediately open Cakewalk by Bandlab. Check Help - About to make sure you’re using 2024.02 Build 98 · From the Cakewalk by Bandlab help menu , sign out so that the entry changes the “Sign in to Bandlab” · From the Cakewalk by Bandlab help menu , click on to “Sign in to Bandlab” This should open the Bandlab sign in page using your default browser. · Sign in using your Bandlab username and password · On a properly configured PC, this should activate Cakewalk by Bandlab. I have done this plenty of times and it has worked every time. Things to note. · Make sure Windows is fully patched (i.e. all possible updates are installed for your Windows version) · Make sure there are now antivirus or third party firewalls interfering with the activation handshaking process. · Make sure you are using Cakewalk by Bandlab 2024.02 Build 98 (or the latest at any given time). Previous versions will not activate. · Bandlab assistant is no longer used for activating Cakewalk by Bandlab.
  12. This might interest you. https://www.jrrshop.com/celemony-melodyne-editor-upgrade-editor
  13. The Celemony website states that Melodyne is 64bit only. It's under “Technical matters” - System requirements You still using 32bit stuff?
  14. Looks like it. ATM, 4 Studio to 5 Studio is US$149 Maybe try to 30 day trial of 5 Studio. Just hope it does not bork your Installation of 4 Studio. Might have to wait for a sale.
  15. I am thinking the OP did see it, tried to log on with the web browser that opened, but it would not activate. Hence the SOS.
  16. In the forum release notes for 2023.09 Build 75, the bakers said that “Version 2023.09 will likely be the last update”. Notice the word “likely” This means that it is unlikely that there will be further updates. However, not impossible. Again, 2024.02 will LIKELY be the last update. Also, 2024.02 will still require activation. See
  17. One other issue I have found with track templates is this. If I have a track template with MIDI track routed to a plugin (say to a wah pedal in TH3 or IKM’s Amplitube), the MIDI routing gets lost when the track template is reloaded. Recipe: · Create a SIT with a VSTi · Place an FX plugin in that track’s audio FX rack and enable that FX’s MIDI in. · Create a MIDI track and route that track’s MIDI out to the FX’s MIDI in. · Use the FX’s MIDI learn to create a MIDI mapping from a controller to parameter. · Confirm that moving the slider on the MIDI controller changes the parameter on the FX. I save both the SIT and the MIDI track to a single track template When I insert that track template, the MIDI routing is still present. However, moving the slider on the MIDI controller no longer changes the parameter on the FX. The work around is to turn “MIDI in” on the FX off and on again. Then re- route the MIDI track’s MIDI out to the FX’s MIDI in. After doing that, moving the slider on the MIDI controller changes the parameter on the FX. I have tried this with VST2 and VST3 version of the FX plugin. I have also tried is with other manufacturer’s FX plugins. Same result. This only effects Track Templates. Saving as a project or a Project Templates does retain the MIDI routing to the effect.
  19. Slight correction. Windows itself allows multiple ASIO devices installed. Any one Windows program itself cannot have two ASIO devices selected therein. (Which is why the OP's Focusrite ASIO was greyed out in CbB) If you have multiple ASIO devices, Cakewalk can use use one ASIO device. Another program (ORB Studio for eg) can use only one of the other ASIO devices. The two programs can run at the same time using their respective ASIO devices. The only stipulation is same sample rate, bit depth and (I think) buffer size for all ASIO devices.
  20. These days, the currency can be hard drive space..... Even at $US48, the 288GB part is a bit expensive.
