  1. I think that using the "Guest" network for any potentially untrusted devices in your network is a good plan. In my Netgear router, for instance, there is also a feature called "Network Isolation" than can be enabled. This puts the "Guest" network devices into a mode where they can only see the router and internet, but no other devices on my private network. So I connect my mobile phone and Roku streamer to my guest network in isolation mode. I don't have any internet of things yet, or Amazon Alexas, but they would also go there if I had them. The biggest potential problem that I see with "Amazon Sidewalk", is that they have had these tiny low power wireless transceivers "hidden" in their connected devices for a while. So they are just now announcing it, as they enable this feature, allowing your Amazon internet connected device to "bridge" to a new low power wireless mesh network (Sidewalk) of nearby public devices. This low power network operates independently, and completely out of control of your private network router and firewall. Note: if you are using the "Guest" network in normal mode, rather than isolation mode, this only uses an alternate SSID and login credentials, so you don't have to share your primary credentials with guests. But in most consumer scenarios, those guests will be using the same physical network and address space as your primary network (meaning they could see all traffic) unless your router has another way to place then on a different subnet. ?
  2. Seriously, don't overlook this part. It may yield some important clues.
  3. Two methods: 1. Log into Cakewalk Command Center, and locate your download there. That will download, install, and activate it on autopilot. 2. Alternatively, access your old "my account" at the legacy Cakewalk site. It should have all of your registered Cakewalk programs and serials available for manual download. You would need to use both the serial number AND registration code. And like John just said, Dimension Pro must be running in administrator mode to activate with this method. Something to do with a required write access in the Windows registry. You don't need admin access to run normally after activation.
  4. I'll probably hang with my current version of Waveform for a while. It does everything I need it to. I like what the Tracktion dev team is doing, as they are a very small team with some nice chops and a unique and refreshing approach to DAW design for musicians. But my biggest gripe with the company is that they are YEARS behind in editing and updating the Waveform User Guide. The latest version 2021-v2 that I looked at was still stuck at "work in progress". While the getting started info and the UI changes seem to have been updated, many of the screen shots in the chapters look like they are from the old Tracktion 7. And most of the new features from Waveform 8 on are not covered at all. Chapter 38 is still titled "New in Waveform 8". Then it has a summary list of the new features, followed by the disclaimer "The above new features will each be explained further, in greater detail, in an upcoming revision of this beta user’s manual." Waveform 8, 9, & 10, have come and gone, and we are now on v11.5 and still no new feature updates are covered in the User Guide. SMH. ? In all fairness, when I complained to support, they directed me to the video tutorials that cover the new features. And they said they had engaged their former author to get the manual revised. But that has been a while. Still hoping...
  5. Bottom line is that Waveform has added a few features that have been on the Cakewalk wishlist forever. Most negative comments I've seen relate to a dislike of the Tracktion UI. Admittedly, it can appear strange and intimidating at first glance. It is different, but it really is very simple and intuitive once you spend some time with it. Under the hood lurks a powerful DAW with tons of customization available. And it's not nearly as ugly as Reaper! ?
  6. My Tower of DAW (in no particular order): Cakewalk Studio One 5 Pro Ableton Live 11 Suite Tracktion Waveform 11.5 Pro
  7. And this is pretty cool! Retrospective recording uses a buffer that captures your input, even when you are not actually recording...
  8. And the Waveform Drum Sampler, based on the Multi Sampler
  9. I don't believe those are bass virtual instruments, but are FX plugins.
  10. Did you check out the video tutorials yet? https://www.tracktion.com/training/videos They can demonstrate much more than a few more comments on this forum can. Only you can decide for yourself what suits your creative workflow. For starters, here's a few videos that come to mind:
  11. Well, look at the tabs on LatencyMon, and select the "Drivers" tab. That will list all the running drivers and their highest execution times, DPC's etc. Try to share that here. Here are my screenshots showing a normal LatencyMon test result.
  12. I would stick with Cakewalk if what you intend to do is straight up instrument recording. It's perfect for recording and mixing. Tracktion doesn't intend their DAW to be a recording studio for engineers. They have stated that they aren't trying to compete with that. Waveform is intended to be a place for modern musicians to write music and to be a fun and creative place to do so. So think of it as a potential secondary DAW if you have the time to learn both.
  13. Old Skool! LOL!!! But seriously, could you imagine if Amadeus were here today, what he would do with our modern tools? ?
  14. Hot damn! I'd be all over that deal if I didn't already have AL V.
  15. Unfortunately, some laptops have DPC issues no matter what audio interface is connected. But the laptop itself might be OK. But to avoid more frustration, I would invest in a currently supported interface with factory ASIO support (that particular Alesis model was discontinued). DPC issues are often driver related. Not always the audio driver, because it could be any driver running on the PC.
  16. Say no to WUP! Just move your Waves license storage onto a USB flash drive. See Waves Central to make that happen. Then your plugins are automatically authorized on any computer you plug that into. Just install your plugins on as many computers as you like, then move the USB flash drive as needed. But if you run two computers at the same time, you will need a 2nd license.
  17. Nice! I already have a couple of Waves "OneKnob" plugins that I picked up as freebies. Might as well keep collecting them! ? This is perfect therapy for a plugin addict! ?
  18. Seems that a few others had stuck note issues in Studio One, using an earlier release of Scaler 2. Nothing definitive was ever found, but there's a few things to try. Problem with new Scaler 2 in Studio One 5 https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?t=41887&p=246406 Jammed Midi Notes/Continuous Ringing of Chords for On-board Sounds (2.1) https://forum.scalerplugin.com/t/jammed-midi-notes-continuous-ringing-of-chords-for-on-board-sounds-2-1/4958/17
  19. Dunno. Have you ever broken a bass guitar string?
  20. Try Waveform Free. https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-compare-versions Then you be the judge. The free version includes the MIDI pattern generators, which are helpful for creating new patterns in a chord progression. Waveform Pro has many more add-on features than the free version, but Pro is the same core DAW as Free. Plenty to help you decide! But you might be interested in the integrated multi-sampler and drum sampler that Waveform Pro has. Cakewalk still has not added those features.
  21. Are they internet connected so that they can order replacement strings, as needed?
  22. Sounds like a pretty good deal! You get 2000 sounds included with AL V. Includes sounds from each of the V collection of vintage instruments, which also includes these keyboard instruments (synthesizers not listed here, as you've probably already heard of them): B3 Clavinet Farfisa Mellotron Piano Grand Piano Upright Solina Stage-73 VOX Continental Wurli https://www.arturia.com/products/analog-classics/analoglab-v/overview
