GForce Imposcar 2 free with upcoming issue of Computer Music Magazine
CSistine replied to audioschmaudio's topic in Deals
I never claimed that it's the fault of the format itself. Though I can imagine that it's parly caused by an insufficient format specification by Steinberg, 'cos that many developers had issues with VST3 until today! I worked as developer for decades and I have seen multiple times that specifications lacked some information (they liked to talk about black boxes that weren't really) and thus caused issues when developers had to collaborate (like DAW and plugin developers). Basically my major concern is that people overrate VST3 requirement for plugins. For most plugins there is no advantage over the VST2 version, on the contrary the VST2 version is often more mature! But as you said, it's not 'cos the VST2 format is better. I think there is only more experience and know-how in VST2. -

Great, that you are spared of such issues! ? I can imagine that Cubase is stable in that area, Reaper too AFAIK! I don't deny that it maybe/is DAW related (my case seems to be an issue of CbB)! All I wanted was to remark that the "development" for VST3 is still not completed, including DAWs! Therefore IMO it is ridiculous that Steinberg forces VST3! -

In many cases there are issues with VST3, often VST2 is still more stable! Recently I have posted an issue with PSP InfiniStrip VST3 and CbB upstairs. -
I forgot an important thing to me: You can normalize an audio clip/export to LUFS-I (also in batch mode). This is very handy to equal the loudness of recording parts that are too uneven over time (especially vocals).
-
As mentioned above my comment targets only the recordings/recording equipment, not the instrument sounds!
-
Thanks for your comment! This is really a step forward! I wondered that Acon Digital Multiply does not crash in my system, but then I noticed that I use VST2 for this one and VST3 for PSP InfiniStrip Mono. Now when I tried to use the VST2 version of InfiniStrip, I found out that this works without issue! Thus it seems the problem is only with VST3 and a mono track in CbB! Can you confirm that it is the VST3 version of Multiply that crashes on your system?
-
Nowadays everything is about distortion and saturation! In the 80s our aim was as little distortion as possible (except for guitar sounds)! ?
-
It seems no one uses PSP InfiniStrip on a mono track (except me ?)!

I don't prefer everything in Reaper, but it has a lot of very strong features! Just some things I like: Simple authorization that works without issues (you get an authorization file that can be used totally offline) Portable installation (=install into a single folder, even on an usb drive) Installation/update of a new version goes just some seconds!!! (installation size about 210 MB only, installer is about 15 MB only) The fastest plugin rescan (for new ones) that I know! Great export functionality (like Sonar or even better) Extensive batch functionality (conversions, plugin chains ....) Super stable and fast, also with plugins Excellent time stretching and audio quantizing functionality There's almost nothing (that other daws can do) you can't do with it ....
-
IMHO the best DAW would be ReaOnar! ? But there is not much hope for it!
-
YMMV! I still prefer the old tempo map and export dialog (very clearly arranged). Also, even in CbB I still use the old plugin manager (separate exe). But I really would miss e.g. the visual clip gain adjustment and the plugin replace, maybe more ...
-
Can X3 be authorized completely offline? It would be great to know since I still have my serial inclusive the installer files! Sure I would miss a couple of bug fixes and maybe about 2 new features, but I could really live without the other newer stuff!

I found out the following problem: Create a new project Insert an audio track Set the interleave to Mono Add PSP InfiniStrip Mono (VST3) Cakewalk terminates immediately without message In Sonar Platinum and in the other DAWs that I own it works without issue on mono tracks! In CbB it only works if the interleave is stereo. I am still working with CbB 2022.11 (built 021). As soon as the offline installation is available I will also test this in the current CbB version (2023.09). Can anyone else confirm the issue?
-
Frankly, for me this does not sound promising! Especially if I consider my experiences with Cakewalk the last 7 years!
-
Phew, it was difficult to find in all those long threads! It took me minimum a quarter of an hour! Here is short the important quote, Noel said: "The only reason it's being kept active for now (CbB) is to provide users time to transition to the upcoming (paid) Sonar product." IMHO this implies a more or less short time, even if no exact period is mentioned! But I guess it won't be years that they provide to make the transition!
-
Hell, I paid too much! ?
-
In the newest version of Reaper (I don't know if before) you can open "Help > About Reaper > Tab=Purchase"! There you can see how long your license is valid ("Valid through").
-
The only question is what discontinued really means? I hope your optimism turns out to be right! ? Why did they emphasize discontinuation if they already had stated that development goes to Sonar?
-
AFAIK if you have the previous installer (2022.11) saved and its activation is not run out (the old one), you can install that version and it runs! But as soon as the old activation is over, you cannot run it anymore.
-
In the release notes they wrote: "CbB will eventually be discontinued as future development and support will transition to the upcoming Cakewalk Sonar release.". And there are other hints that say we will have enough time to prepare/choose the paid version that fits us! These are obvious signs that the time for using CbB is soon over. But hey, I like that there are people like you that are optimistic regardless! ?
-
Yes and no, 'cos it is now more like a trial! You are able to use it as long as they allow you to re-authorize (and they mentioned it will not be for long)!
-
Great freebie from Bluelab Audio. (Noise reduction VST)

This is exactly why I hate all those online/login authorization products! In the end you realize that you have bought a cheat package, because you never know how long you can use them even if you have a compatible computer system! God save Reaper, Mixbus, Klanghelm, Toneboosters, AudioThing, Black Rooster, Acon Digital, Audiority, Boz Digital, ... and all the free plugins! ? -
I'm still waiting for offline activation! ? Hope it will come before my CbB versions require re-activation!
