Dont feel alone my friend, I know ur pain. Although I've never played real hockey, I once pinched my finger very badly playing air hockey. Then to make matters worse, when the kid I was playing called me a sissy for crying, I charged with both fist swinging. I almost got a lick in but then she pulled my shirt over my head and that's the last thing I remember. I was around 16 at the time. I actually think I could've won that fight but she was VERY big boned for a 12 year old. Anyway, I still have a little white spot behind my fingernail where the air puck struck me. I consider it my own little Stanley Cup. Afterall, she was gone when I regained consciousness so technically she forfeited the game. Ah, victory is sweet! 😎

Oh cool. Yeah, Lafayette is about 2 hrs northwest from me. I'm in Bayou Lafourche/ Bayou Terrebonne area. But I was born in New Iberia which is very close to Lafayette. And yeah, I feel you on the open tuning thing. However there is something cool about not knowing the neck well in an open tuning. When u can't fall back on standard shapes and theory, u end up using ur ear more and it usually ends ups sounding more unique and inspired. When it comes to creativity, I find sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Cheers Mark. First, if that's ur cigarbox lap steel in the pic, you did a great job. It looks awesome. Second, I love the vibe of the song and the imagery. And as always, I love ur voice. You have a great Stephen Stills type voice with a cool, lazy delivery. I LOVE it! Anyway, if it were me, in time Id def revisit this song and give it a couple of verses using a diff vocal melody(or perhaps just spoken word) and I'd prob put a diff chord progression in the verses to create a bit of musical variation, while being careful not to get too fancy and lose that laid back feel. I'd use those verses to try to tell a cool story(maybe of a journey down south and how a voodoo woman did me wrong) . Yeah, right now it feels like it's all variations of the chorus. A couple of verses would help give the song more depth(musically & lyrically) and it'd make it feel more complete. Maybe some reading on Swamp folklore could get ur gears turning again. Btw, I know a little something about the swamp. I live right in the middle of it. I'm in Cajun country in South Louisiana. Hey, maybe we could swap houses for a while. Afterall, you want someone to take you TO the swamp and I want someone to take me OUT of the damn swamp. 🐊 👀 (😁)
