Yeah, IMO too many people are a little too an@l about sound isolation. I was stressing over it too when I first started out. After all, it's the "right way" to record. But now, I usually record my vocals without using headphones at all. With headphones, even on just one ear, I tend to sing slightly flat.(I've learned this is due to not hearing the skull & jaw bone resonate). So I've developed a vocal recording workflow where I turn the music on my monitors down low and I don't monitor the mic at all. And I'm very happy with the results and the speed of the process. I even use a condenser mic (& compression). However, I put an eyeball isolation filter on it to help block some of the monitor bleed from the back & sides. I can usually even apply melodyne on the clips if I need to and it still sounds great in the mix. In my experience, it's not a HUGE diff from headphone bleed. To each his own though. And I know some music & situations require more strict isolation. I just think a lot of people make too big a deal out of it. They end up sacrificing some vibe and workflow for perfectionism. I'm personally more concerned with the overall product & feel. And having a better workflow is just a bonus. So I usually go with the Van Halen approach... "If it sounds good, it IS good". ๐ (As long as no one ever isolates my sloppy-asยง tracks, I think I'll get away with it ๐คฃ)

Just thought I'd post this for the whammy users here. I personally deck my tremolo but Carl's advice for a floating setup(w/ angled claw) makes a lot of sense and he always seems to be in tune. (He's a killer player too)

Mark Knopfler is left handed, but he cannot play guitar left handed. That, of course, means you're his evil twin ๐งโ๐คโ๐ง

The first guitar solo I learned (minus the harmony part) was Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache". I learned it from my big sister's 45" single. I still remember being very proud of myself when I figured it out. The second solo I learned was a basic version of Willie Nelson's Blue eyes crying in the Rain from my mom's record. I still remember having trouble figuring out the double stops( I prob scratched that record to sh*t). But it was good early ear training. Those are some good memories. Cheers ๐

This is my own invention. It's called the "Hemorrhoid Grater." Btw, that's my grandson, Jack Theodore McHanlan. He insisted I let him be the first one to try it. I now realize it was an extremely stupid idea. Dammit, I miss my little Jack. Or as we now refer to him, "Cheddar Jack" ๐ซ

Yeah, it's getting harder to know what products to trust. And big corporations and big pharma seem to control govt food safety agencies, so they are fine with us putting preservatives & synthetic substances in our bodies. And when it inevitably makes us unhealthy, big pharma can sell us more synthetic crap to put in our bodies. Btw, I've been suffering with severe neuropathy for a few years and I've recently changed from standard vitimans to quality, active form vitimans(with no gluten, silica or other fillers) and the diff in the way they make me feel is huge. I wish I wouldve switched years ago. I wont cheap out on vitamins again.
